Does anyone have any experience and can recommend it or not?? Got the opportunity to go away in school holidays with my son (9) and baby (5 months), just don't know whether its going to be too much hard work? Husband has to work so will be staying at home. Would love a break, can go for as little or as long as we want. It wold be a touring caravan and i don't drive, so wouldn't be able to travel far.

Does anyone have any experience??

We went on a caravan holiday when DS was 6 months old and really enjoyed. We have booked to go again and DD will be 6 months old. Not saying it wasn't hard work, but we had a fab time xx

we just got back last night from a caravan holiday with my 7 month old. i went with my son, mum, brother, and the 8 year old my mum is fostering. we only stayed 1 night though as it was just a quick weekend holiday. its nice! i struggled a little bit as im a bit of a stresser when it comes to routines and his went completely out the window. hes really sensitive and woke up a lot with the new noises and noises children and dogs were making outside, he also wouldnt eat a lot and refused to nap too which is really unusual for him but its the first holiday hes been on. id say go for it! :) x

My mum has a static caravan and so we go quite reguarly...

2 top tips.... take a black out blind as the bedrooms light up very early. Don't try and shower with baby, just fill up the kitchen sink and bath them in there... less stressful that squeezing into tiny shower room.

I love caravanning... be prepared for routine to go out the window as there is too much to do.

Have fun xx

We're going on a caravan holiday in July and will be first one with a baby. Been on 3 caravan holidays with my son before when he was 2, 2.5 & 3. They are great, definitely second the blackout blind but we used black bags taped to the window! (Then used the bags to bring home dirty clothes).

Not quite sure how well we'll cope with little miss this time as she'll be 4.5 months and I can't figure out where the travel cot will go but it will all work out and I'm looking forward to the break. Fingers crossed the weather is ok

Just wondering where baby would sleep in a small caravan?? In bed with me? Is that safe?xx

oh i second the black out blind!! i took the travel cot (was hoping it would fit in the double room but the room was way to small to fit it) and luckily the single beds werent attached to the floor so i took one out of one of the rooms and put it in the double bedroom, and that left enough room for the travel cot.x

I dont think ppl are reading this right. Its a tourer not a static!

We have a campervan. Go away every weekend come spring. We have 10,9,8,3,2,1 year olds. The youngest 3 have gone since babys. The smallest 2 sleep in bed with us, and its fine. And adapted well, prob be out of routine a bit, but we didnt have a very structured one anyway for this reason. Just take some toys to keep them happy, and if there crawling/ walking take something non permanant ie rip ties for fastening cupboards together, as ours kept opening ours. Other than that go and enjoy. If you have any other q id be happy to answer. X

We have an old VW campervan and took Hayden on his first holiday in in when he was about 8 months old. It could be very hard work if you let it, but he you can manage to relax, not worry about routine and not plan to do too much in the way of days out etc it can be great fun. We went again last year, and will be going in august when he will be almost 3 and Zoe will be 4.5 months. We are really looking forward to it. We only have a tiny amount of space when the bed is out, but we got one of those pop-up travel cots which fits perfectly and Hayden even managed to fit in it last year at 22 months. This year Zoe will be in there, in the camper with me, and Hayden will sleep in the awning with hubby as there just won't be enough space in the van. If you have an awning it gives you some extra space which we found invaluable.
I went on caravan holidays every year as a child and they gave me some of my best childhood memories. Really looking forward to doing the same for my children. Where would you go? For me it has to be the seaside, we are going to cromer. B-)

We are just back from our first 3 nights stay in our tourer and the only problem we had was the lack of room. Its a 5 berth and there was the 3 of us in it. The bed at the end was up all the time with her travelcot on top as it didnt fit on the floor. It got very warm during the day and a wee bit chilly at night so make sure you have a heater. My dd wont go to sleep on me or with us so we had to take the travel cot. We kept to the same routine.

So glad I found this thread as we're thinking of taking LO caravaning!
