Megan - why did you stop swaddling? Because she is rolling?

I would ask in baby club for ideas to transition from swaddle. I've seen others mention products that are not swaddling but make babies seem more cozy. Otherwise have you tried a rock and play sleeper? We used one for Jordan earlier on but when she was sick I used it again and she still fit. They make them feel cozier, like they are being held. And I don't think they would be able to roll in it. You could try swaddling in one of those.

Does she still have her startle reflex?

I've been using the ZipadeeZip for my recovering swaddle addict. I made the mistake of ignoring their recommendation of starting with the smaller size and then working up to the medium which I think is part of why it hasn't been as effective for her as for other babies, but she definitely sleeps way better in it than she does in a regular sleep sack and she has no problem rolling all over her crib (which was why I stopped swaddling her).

Bananaz - meant to reply about the grumbling and forgot...

I would just leave her to work it out unless she is crying. Jordan will grumble a bit when trying to settle sometimes. She let's me know when she thinks she needs me. Lol I think of it as talking to themselves. Megan talks while she is trying to fall asleep or if she wakes but she doesn't need me those times.

Naps for us worked themselves out once they figured out nights. It was a 2 for 1 for us!

What was happening when she was waking throughout the night?

Yes because she is rolling over and waking herself up every 10 minutes doing that. Plus she is 20 lbs and very tall so the largest one they sell here no longer fits her. Her startle reflex is only sometimes, and it doesn't wake her up.

Charlotte was doing the same thing! Waking all night long because she'd roll from back to tummy and get frustrated, wanting me to roll her back over. Oh gosh, it's so awful... I feel for you. At first I kept going into the nursery and rolling her, but it wasn't helping. I finally decided to just let her fuss for a few minutes and she usually goes back to sleep. I also put her to sleep intentionally on her belly or side so that she's not shocked when she wakes that way (thanks for the suggestion, Bananaz!). During the day, lots and lots of tummy time so that she gets comfortable in that position. It's starting to get better. My other mom friends tell me it's just a phase that they do grow out of.

Called my Pedi's office today about our desire to sleep train LO. He said for psychological reasons I should still nurse her to sleep, then put her in her crib so she wakes up in her crib. (she currently bed shares as she would scream bloody murder every time I tried that). He does not know our history though. I can try that again, but the last time I did this she woke up 10-11 times a night and it was battle after battle after battle. She does take some naps in her crib though (even though she is fighting me again)

Then, after doing that, he said I can begin putting her into her crib drowsy but awake, which is where the CC will have to take place because my girl will not go down on her own easily!

I said I wanted her in a crib in her own room and they brought up SIDS research and that we should keep her in her own crib in our room until at least 6 months. I am not sure if that is going to work though.

So that's the latest!

You should try again. Even a week older is a lifetime in baby years... We've tried some things with my LO that she's totally rejected, only to take to it a couple weeks later. Good luck!

It's interesting that your doctor sited that SIDS guideline. I read about it a lot on this board, but not in my real life. Our ped actually recommended my moving our LO to her own room at 6 weeks old, since we were both waking each other up. No one I know in the US keeps their baby in their room for 6 months. You have to use your own judgement, but sleep is important for health as well.

Noelle, yes that is exactly what happens except she loves tummy time. So when she rolls over she automatically goes on her arms like she is on tummy time and she will not sleep that way. I usually roll her onto her side if she is fussing while asleep at night and she likes it.

What was happening when she was waking throughout the night?

Well she went down at 8pm, woke at 10:45pm and cried for 20 min (with checks/shushing) before going back to sleep, then woke again at 1:30am and 3:45am. She seemed genuinely upset and hungry both of those times so I fed her for a few minutes and then popped her back in the crib. Maybe I should've just let her have a full feeding the first time and she would've slept longer, I don't know? Then she started doing her grumbling routine at 5:15am for like 40 minutes before she actually started crying and I got her up.

Does Charlotte cry when she rolls to her front or does she just fuss?
This is one of the MANY things we're struggling with right now. She goes down so easily on her back (after feeding to sleep) but wakes up as soon as she rolls on her belly. She starts with a fuss and then goes into crying and I'm exhausted rolling her over all the time. I don't want to leave her to cry and see if she gets herself comfortable because I'm scared she's going to work herself up and be even harder to get to sleep. :(

This is the opposite of the issue we had - I'd put Elsie down on her belly and she'd get upset when she rolled onto her back. I was also scared about letting her cry but I was more scared about making her sucking-to-sleep association even worse by just nursing her back down every time she woke, which is why I finally decided to give CC a try.

So far I'm glad that I did. She caught on very quickly and although she is still having more night wakings than I'd like, she has learned that rolling over isn't the end of the world and that she's capable of making herself comfy and going back to sleep on her own. The longest crying session on the first night was only about 40 minutes and my mom and I were going in there every few minutes to comfort and reassure her so she never got hysterical. By the third night she'd gone from waking 4-5 times a night to only waking 2-3 times (and two of those are night feedings, so they don't really count, right? :haha:)

Obviously you're the mama and you know what will work best for your LO, but I just wanted to say that if you do decide to let her cry a little while she figures things out then it might not be as terrible as you're expecting :flower:

I think with the babies rolling over...once Jordan finally figures out she can roll in her crib and not just the floor ( lol... But she has only been rolling back to front a few weeks ) I'm just going to let her figure out that she can sleep on her stomach.

I remember even though I wasn't doing cc with Megan ... I still had just just figure out the whole sleeping on the stomach thing. It took a week or 2 but then she slept awesome as she slept much better on her stomach.

Bananaz - that's hard to know if feeding a bit longer would have prevented those other wake ups. How long are you leaving her before going in?

Lysh - I too am surprised to hear the pediatrician say to keep lo in your room. I had asked some friends with kids about that once and none of them had been told to keep lo in their room. And only one of them had lo in their room after the first month.

She slept through! :happy dance: She's still asleep now but I'm expecting her up sometime soon as she slept all night so won't need her usual lie-in

I didn't really wait at all for the 1:30am wake-up since that's been a typical time for her night feeds lately, and I waited 5 minutes for 3:45am wake-up. In retrospect I probably should've tried just doing checks and shushing for the 3:45am waking, but I was so tired I just wanted her to go back to sleep so that I could go back to sleep.

WOW, that's amazing!! I hope you got some sleep as well

Yes I've done that exact thing and then the next day :dohh: but when you are tired sometimes it seems easier and quicker! I think we have all been there!

Well I woke at 5 and couldn't sleep after that, I woke up panicking cos she hadn't woken up! Had to go check on her :haha:
She's still asleep - 13 hours!

That's awesome! The best we've gotten so far was 8 hours and that was amazing!

Lysh - we did keep LO in our room until just before 6 months, but we have a spare room for DH to escape to and I was able to sleep ok with her in our room...if her being there had caused too much dispruption for us we would have moved her sooner.
We also have an Angelcare monitor as I am paranoid, so that alleviates my fear that she'll stop breathing

The last couple days have been a bit of a backslide...we've been doing this for two weeks now and she was doing really well
She still goes to sleep really well, but in the past 3 days her naps have been much shorter (30-45 mins instead of 1-2 hours) and she's been waking more often at night....last night she was up after an hour at one point which she hasn't done in two weeks! Not sure if its because she might be teething (she got her first tooth about a week ago, there may be more on the way) but it was very frustrating after having her consistently sleeping 4-5 hours at a time. Hoping she gets back to sleeping better soon!

She got up 5 mins later and had a little drink of milk and looks very well rested :D

Maria has been in my room up until a month or so ago when I gave up and moved out of the bedroom and into the lounge! I still have to share a room with her when we visit my BF, hope that won't mess up her sleeping after this improvement!

I've heard teeth come in pairs so it definitely could be teething. I hope it passes soon!
