CC/CIO Support and Information Thread

Thanks for the support ladies! In the end it went like this, DH did routine at 6.30 she had her bottle around 6.50 and didnt fall asleep on it (prob coz she had a nap at 4pm which is unusal for her) so she was pretty awake. He put her in her cot and left - she cried!! so he went in at 1 min, I went in at 3min, he went in at 5min, we then did another 5min session and I went in (at this point I picked her up v.briefly kissed her forehead and put her back and left), then came the 10min block (very hard) after that DH went in and apparently he picked her up and she fell asleep straight away!! oppps, anyway he put her in the cot and she did stir but i dont think she really woke. So that was about 7.30pm. She then slept until 5am!!!! I went in after 1min and offered her the watered down bottle, she took half and was still awake, so back into the cot and I started timing again. She didnt like it and cried a lot but I waited 5mins and went in, then she cried on and off but after the 2nd lot of crying (about 3mins) she settled and slept until 6am (when she cried for maybe 30secs and self settled) then until 7am :) so a brill night for sleep in the end (technically although of course I was pretty wired with it all!).
It was really hard but FX it will be better this eve etc and hopefully she wont fall asleep on us (that wasnt the aim!). Anyway, questions - do we do our normal rocking/co sleep at nap time? or do CC again?
Also DD is NEVER sick, she was never a possety baby, but this morn after taking half her bottle she was really sick - do you think this is a coincidence? or maybe she lots of air in her tummy from crying? Thanks!

Getting so frustrated. Lily is in her crib but she woke up at 1:50 AM and has been awake ever since. That makes it 1 hour 20 minutes so far. She is not hungry. What the fuck!!!!! I'm so tired. I'm a single mom with no help. And I have only had 2h45m of sleep. Why does my baby have to be one that DOESNT SLEEP

Well done for sticking with it! Sounds like you made fab progress  the sick may well have been air in tummy from crying, I wouldn't worry too much about it xxx

I'm exhausted too, we are trying to have Megan stop her nap as she otherwise isn't tired enough for bedtime anymore til like midnight. But she is getting overtired on no nap even with going to bed at 6 for the night. Last night she woke at 11 and was awake til 4. And her being awake woke jordan. And then Jordan was up for the day at 6.

Boo - yay! My girls both did more cluster feeding with their bottles at the end of the day. Earlier in the day no way, but before bed they would like to have bottles closer together. You may want to keep trying and see.

Certain - I would do it for naps too with what has happened so far and her age, and see how she does. And bedtime might go easier if she isn't so wide awake ( the odd nap yesterday)

megan - :hugs: Im sorry you are so tired :( is there anyone else who could come and support you? could he be starting to teethe?

DaisyBee - thank you, as it happened all her naps were in her pram today as we were out and about but she had 3 good naps (1 25min, 1 40min and 1 30min) the last one she woke at 4pm so fx she will be more ready for bed at 6.45. However, unlike normal when I put her in her pram she went straight to sleep rather than needing to be moving/blacked out :) Maybe it is helping already. Tomorrow she will be napping in her cot so we shall see! Fx this eve goes well!

she has been teething for 4.5 months and 2 teeth are starting to break thru. but lastnight she wasnt teething. she was just awake. there is nobody to help until thursday when i move to my moms.

My kids are like that when they are overtired or going through growth spurts. Megan especially is always awake during growth spurts.

:hugs: at least you have the idea of help coming. Better than no help in sight. Just get yourself through each day one day at a time.

Thanks for the great advice! And poor you last night sounds awful, am still not sure how I'd ever cope with 2....!

thank you. it really helps to be able to vent to ppl who understand and are experiencing it themselves. she just finished her growth spurt she was drinking 40 oz of milk during that.

Night two of CC- LO settled much quicker and had slightly longer stretches of sleep for the first half of the night. The second half of the night was worse. Basically this is the reverse of night one of CC- first half was rough, second half was not too bad.
The hardest part of the night was mid morning. She woke up at 2:50 and it was almost 2 1/2 hours since our last nursing session so I went into nurse her. She started to doze off, so by 3:15 I put her in her crib. She seemingly started to doze off, then all of a sudden she wakes up. I have a video monitor, and she must have been enthralled with the green light on it because all I see are her big eyes staring into the monitor. She stayed like that, looking and then wiggling around a bit for a good 15 minutes. Then she started to cry. :nope: So I started the CC process and it was hard, especially since she was doing so well with settling quicker the previous half of the night. She eventually fell asleep again but was up at 5. She typically wakes up at 5-6, so I got up with her. We both were so tired though that we fell asleep and took a 2 hour nap with her laying on my chest on the couch. :dohh: That is probably not ideal, but it was not in our usual position in my bed. And besides, she is only 4 months old and daytime cuddles are still important. I just hope it does not set us back!

I just put her down for our start of night 3. I am hoping she woke up enough after nursing her. She kind of looked at me but the immediately shut her eyes again. So far she has been sleeping for 20 minutes without crying. Better start than the last two nights!

So, what time do all you ladies put your little ones to sleep for the night?

We put our LO to bed at 7. Debating making it a little earlier (6:30ish) as she seems exhausted by 5- but there is no way we can have a 5 o'clock bedtime!

Megan - sorry to hear you girls had a rough night :(
We had a rough night too, not sure why. LO has been teething for the last week and a half but last night she was up constantly and wouldn't even settle once she was in bed with us (the only time she's ever settled so poorly in our bed was when she had an awful cold) so I was awake a lot last night trying to settle her

We start our bedtime routine at 7-7:30 and she's usually in her crib asleep between 7:30-8.

Certain - I did CC for naps from day 2 of sleep training as LO would NOT nap. It took a lot longer for her to settle for naps properly than it did for night times, but now she will usually go down for naps with no fuss. Sometimes she does play and talk for 15-20 mins in her crib and might whinge a bit after this, and if she does start actually crying I will go and settle her, but generally she just goes to sleep and now regularly has 1-2 hour naps in her crib
That said, I do still usually have a nap during the day where I lie down with her, I just try to make sure she has at least one nap per day in her crib.

lysh - I wouldn't worry about that setting your LO back. We still cosleep for half the night and often I still have naps with her and it hasn't caused any negative effect on her sleep training.

Jordan is in bed by 7. I was pushing it back bit by bit before the time change so for a few weeks it was more like 7:30. She takes 2 naps a day. She dropped her 3rd nap out of nowhere at 6 months but takes a longer morning nap now instead. So she wakes for the day anywhere between 6-8am depending on how loud dh is :haha: if she had a feed overnight, if she poops ( she has been pooping early am in her crib :dohh: ) Her first nap starts between 9-10am depending on when she woke. She naps for 1 1/2- 2 hrs ( 3 sometimes if she didn't sleep as well the night or day before ) next nap starts between 1-2 pm and she is awake between 3-4 til bedtime. Megan went to bed by 6 at this age as she refused to nap after 3pm.

And growth spurts I meant more like developmental leaps - affected megans sleep a lot and still does.

Lysh - I put black tape over the lights on both my girls monitors. They stare at the lights too. Lol big hugs with the cc

DaisyBee do you mean more stuff like the wonder weeks when you say developmental leaps? I checked it out and there isn't one around 28 weeks, but she could still be going thru the 26 week one which can last up to 6 weeks!

I think I might start her bedtime routine about 7:20. I used to start it at 6:20 but lately it's taken her until 8 to fall asleep anyways, so I might as well just push it up another hour.

We start our bedtime routine at 6.30 and she is normally in her cot by 6.50, we used to have it later but she was so exhausted.

So night two went well, we only had 6 mins of crying (with one check at 3mins) before she settled!! But she did then wake up twice before 10am - both times we went in after 3mins and put in the dummy and she was straight back to sleep. She then woke at 5.20am and wouldnt settle so I offered the bottle, which she took and it then took 5mins of crying until she slept...only until 6.20 though when Im afraid I brought her into bed with us in the hope she may sleep some more (sometimes she wakes for the day then) and she slept until 7.20(im sure this was only because it was DH morning to go down with her :haha:) So not too bad a night...
However I think Im screwing things up in the day  I tried to put her down for a nap at 9.30am which is her normal time but she was just not having it :( She was so upset and I had a problem that we needed to go out at 10.20am (to view a nursery) so i needed her to sleep! Anyway eventually I went in and picked her up and she fell asleep- I did then put he in her cot but I had to go and wake her 20mins later :( such a mess!! So now she is sooo tired :( I just tried putting her in her cot again but she screamed when I started to put her sleeping bag on so I have decided to leave it for a bit longer as she is happily playing with her toys now :( I just dont know what to do - should I just leave naps for a while? She normally goes down ok once I rock her for naps...but will it screw up the evening? Have I messed it all up now? Tonight DH is doing the CC himself as I am out (my only night a week) FX it isnt too bad or maybe i should cancel...argh!

Lysh, do you think she needs a nap arond 5pm? Sometimes Charlotte has her third nap at that time. It seems so late to me, but it doesn't mess with her bedtime at all. Last night she napped from 5pm to 5:45pm and happily went to bed arond 6:45pm!

She does nap at that time, but is so tired and cranky from when she 'wakes' up till bedtime. Maybe she will adjust better as she sleeps better.

So night 3 of CC went much better. There was almost no crying. She went to bed at 7:10 and slept till 10:15. She has not done a 3 hour stretch in 2 months! Then she did a few 2 hour stretches. She woke up and had a harder time settling between 3 and 4 again, but she mostly amused herself then slept after a 3 minute fuss. Then she woke up every hour till 6. I nursed her and she settled back down each time. I am hoping the nursing sessions will naturally decrease.
