Hey guys,

I feel like i should know this but.... my dr has said i should have CD21 blood tests to check if i am ovulating. He said when i get my next AF, count 21 days and then book in for a blood test. Is this right? I thought you had to have blood taken on day 1 and day 21? or am i mixing up two different types of test?!
Also, how long after OV should you have the test? I think my dr is an idiot as doesn't the cd21 test assume you OV on CD14? I already know I don't OV until around CD 19.

Thanks in advance!

Hey coffee - you have the 21 day blood test to detect whether or not you ovulated - the day 3 or 5 blood tests shows the quality of your hormone levels and can detect whether you are perimenopausal - thats how my gp described it!

Basically they use the test in conjunction with the 'normal' ovulation date on CD14. If you don't get your AF a week after your CD21 test your GP may send you for another test.

Hope that helps! x

my doc told me to make sure i "O" and then go for the blood test at least 7 days later from my "O" date...they just want to make sure they perform the test after you ovulated.

Yup, doesn't really matter when in the LP they do the so called "day21" one, miel is perfectly correct, it's only then so that no matter what sort of cycle one has they catch women after they have laid their eggies. In theory if you know you O on CD 19, doing it on CD21 is still okay but it would be worth erring on the side of cautiousness and maybe Ooopsy-ing and going on for CD23 or 24 instead, I would :)

Have you had any of the other blood tests? The hormone levels?

If that is the blood test that you get to check your progesterone levels that is 7 days after you ovulate so for me on a 30 day cycle its day 23. For you on O day 19 it would be day 26 surely? The day one to four tests all the other hormones.

Thanks ever so much guys.
As my cycles are all over the place i've just taken a guess at when i think i will be 7dpo! It just so happens that day is this Monday! woohoo! I don't have to wait until next year! (well, my GP surgery is saying they can't fit me in on Monday, but i'm a woman on a mission, so i'm going to force them to make it happen :rofl:!!).
My GP is pretty useless to be honest - fertility is obviously not his strong point. I just want to get through these tests that he is organising, and then get referred to FS asap, so i can speak to someone who knows what they are talking about!
Weirdly, after spending so long avoiding all medical intervention, and telling myself i didn't need a dr or any tests, now i've finally admitted i do need help, i'm like a woman posessed - it can't happen fast enough!! DH had his SA results yesterday by the way and they were all normal - yaaay! :happydance:

I am sure tuesday will be ok too if GPs are really difficult about fitting you in. My GPs spelt my name wrong on the label so the lab rejected it. So had to wait a further month! Good on you for being motivated, things take time but you want to see the FS as soon as possible, i am the same.

Great news about DA! thats one thing to tick off the list.

That is like a major Yoo-hoo dude! Very well done, we're envious :)

Of course you want to move fast, once you're on the conveyor belt it only makes sense. Besides one doesn't even fully realize what a burden it is to try and try and hope and hope and nothing to be happening till something is being done and there's forward momentum medically! It's a great feeling but one of the most important things to get it is having the right FS so I hope you get the greatest. You so uber deserve it.
