Well im slowly going over to formula as i want to stop breastfeeding soon as due back to work in 6 weeks, ive been giving him a bottle at 1pm feed and a bottle at 8pm feed but how much should he be having if hes having 3 small meals a day and 6 months old and when go over to formula proply how much should he have then at 7 and 8 months old ? thanks

I would give him as much as he takes, which I know probably isn't the most helpful answer in the world. At 4 months (well almost) Hannah drinks 3-5 ounces (depending on the time of day) 6 times a day...averages about 24 ounces in 24 hours. But she's younger and does still get up at night. As you start to give him formula you'll work out what times of day he will want to eat more. For example we know that in the mornings Hannah eats less than at any other time of day so the bottle we make is less. But at noon and 8 she eats more so she has a full five ounce bottle than, if that makes sense?

thanks at the moment he has 2 bottles a day and he allways finishes his 8pm one ive just been filling it to 200ml with 7 scoops but wasnt sure if this is too much each feed when i switch over to bottle feeding proply xxx

If he's draining the bottles than I say up it another ounce (not sure how much ml that is) but that is a general guideline. Once a baby drains their bottle a couple of times a day up it by an ounce so that they get all they want (and to prevent them from sucking on too much air). It's always best to make a little to much I think than to little

And I know a lot of people worry about over feeding with a bottle but truly you don't have to. Your LO will regulate himself and will not eat if he's not hungry. Just make sure to watch for the signs that he's done (turning his head away, playing with the bottle etc.)

was looking at this site the other day, if you scroll down it gives you a guideline as to how much a LO should be eating (milk wise) according to age, as you can see it varies so much!

As big as Hannah is she's always been on the lower end of the eating scale too, barely finishes 24 ounces in a day!

Vickie i have said it so many times but now i am convinced Hannah is Tabs' twin!!
Tabs doesnt have that many oz in the morning and builds up through the day too.
This is her typical ish day.....hope it helps coz

7.30 3-4ozmilk
8.00 about 2oz cereal
10.30 3-4ozmilk
1.30 6oz milk and about 3-4 oz food
4.30 5-6oz milk and about 3-4 oz food
6.55 (on the dot!) 6oz milk
7.00 sleep
10.30-11.30 top up up to 5oz

Once they hit 6 months though the milk is then "secondary to the food" to an extent and they should ideally be doing over 600ml a day....thats about 20oz. Thats the guides ive been looking into anyway.
Tabs on average does 23-30 oz a day depending.
