Cheers to BFPs in 2-0-1-6!

Typically we would have had to wait to hit the year mark, but we lucked out on an appointment (my GP was out of town, so we had this sweet little old man of a doctor see us). The doctor we saw was very sweet, saw we had been actively trying for 6 months, charting, OPKs, the works, and sent us for testing. I came back with Hypothyroidism (which has now been fixed!), as well as high grade cell changes on my cervix (hence the LEEP), while DH came back with low sperm morphology. We were referred back in December and still haven't heard from the clinic.

My insurance won't even cover diagnostic fees, meds, nothing. It's all been out of pocket right from the get-go. The clinic also triages, so older, time-constrained patients will be seen before us because we're only 24 and haven't been trying for a year yet.

Abennion, I didn't realize that it's such a rocky ride here in Canada. I don't think my/DH's insurance covers anything fertility related either, and it's pretty bad that they make you wait well over a year before anything even happens. No wonder so many woman pretend to be TTC longer than they really have been.

Fx for you sheece!

Ouch you poor ladies with your uti's! I've had bad ones before but never peed blood :-/

Jezika: Oh yeah, we're just starting to realize. Ontario is lucky though because OHIP covers your first round of IVF. Quebec I heard was pulling their IVF funding. If DH wasn't so honest we probably would have said we had been TTC longer at the doctors office just to try and speed things up.

I caved and bought a test (ha ha I knew that would happen), bfn. Temp went way down this morning, just above coverline. If it doesn't go up tomorrow, I'm out I'd say. Checked cervix and I can't even feel it it's so high, so I don't know what that means, hopefully something good :p

dpo 11 today, not keen to test again till Friday as originally planned.

abennion - I've heard several friends of mine say that their doctors all said that if you were actively trying for 6 months with BBT, OPKs, etc then you should get tested at the 6 month point. Unfortunately none of MY doctors ever agreed and watned to stick to the 1 year point. On the other hand, that might be related to insurance too. :/

That sucks that you have to keep waiting ot hear from the clinic. It makes sense that the couples on a time constraint are seen first, but it also just goes to show how over booked the clinic probably is and makes it that much more of a struggle. :(

Sheece - how long is your LP usually? Sorry I Can't remember. Hopefully your temp goes back up. If your cervix is still high that's usually a sign AF isn't on her way (usually low means AF is coming). But it's one of the least "effective" signs to look for.

Angel - oh they're so overrun. There's one clinic for all of Calgary and area (southern Alberta). It's ridiculous.

Sheece- fx af doesn't show for you hun.

Jezika - you poor thing. That uti sounds just awful. Hoping you have managed to see a doc and get something to help get rid of it. I haven't had one for a good few years, but they were never as bad as that. I was always worrying when we were TTC as I would lay down after bding for about 20 mins, then go clean up. Maybe I won't wait so long next time!

Abennion - gosh the fertility testing etc sounds like such hard work to get going. I really feel for you. It's so lucky that you have managed to get the ball rolling earlier. I think you've waited long enough already. I was actually looking at how it works in the uk, you have to be trying for 2 years before they see you. Then I imagine there's a lot of hoops to jump through before they decide whether or not you are 'eligible'. Obviously you can go private, but like you say, it's very expensive.

Afm - not much going on, I'm having o pains which I would expect around now. Not getting my hopes up that things are perfectly on track as I did a hpt to check hcg and it was faintly positive. - was weird, it's the only time I've ever wanted to see a negative and I got a faint flippin positive

abennion - Just one for the entire area?! I think I could probably find a handful of fertility clinics within an hour drive of me. The one I'm going to has two clinics, one about 30 mins from me and the other about an hour and 15 minutes from me. That just blows my mind that there's only one in your area.

MrsUnicorn - two years?! Wow! Even one year annoys me because there are so many little things that can prevent pregnancy that can easily be found and fixed with a hormone test and SA.

Drives me mad that they want to make us wait so long just ot even start doing some testing. I don't expect them to do serious hard core testing but at least check my hormones, and look at DH's sperm to make sure that we are on the right track. I mean, if he has low count it would be good to know in advance to adjust the BD schedule. Sorry....I'm ranting. LoL I get on my soap box when I start to talk about how long they make us wait because I had friends who, after a year, finally got tested and find out it's something simple and then get progesterone injections and then two cycles later get pregnant. Why couldn't they do that sooner? Ugh.

Sorry to hear you're still getting + on the HPT. Did they say how long it could take before it's all out of your system?

How long have you been trying for Angel? The year thing does seem ridiculous when, like you say, hormone and sa could be done and possibly be the answer. The nhs website does say to see your gp after a year (if you're under 35) so I'm thinking they maybe do those tests then and try iui before ivf? idk, I hope I don't need to find out!

They didn't really say how long it'd be before hcg would be gone. All they said was to wait for af which could be 4-6 weeks. They said i could take a hpt in 2-3 weeks if I wanted to. It was cd 11 so prob too early.

This is my 13th month. We met with Fertility clinic at the beginning of this cycle and they will begin my testing next cycle if no BFP this cycle. They are looking at recurrent losses Bc I have had 2 CP almost back to back.

Thanks for the thoughts girls, but AF showed this morning :( I checked cervix again in the afternoon yesterday and it had come down a bit but was still high, so for me cervix position clearly isn't an indication, good to know!

Taking the positives - it was another good cycle. LP was 11 days, last cycle it was 15 days, and before that I only had 10 day LP's so it's all improving.

Next cycle will be my 3rd "healthy" cycle, if all goes well, so I'm hoping 3rd times a charm!

Sorry sheece. :( But at least you are being positive and you do have some good things this cycle. :hugs: Onto the next! :)

Sorry af arrived sheece. Like you say, it's great that your cycles are settling down. Fx for the next.

Angel, I can't imagine how frustrating it must be. And having 2 cps must have been awful. I know what's it's like to have all your hopes raised and then it taken away in an instant, and the fact you've been waiting so long must have made that worse :hugs: I really hope you get some (good) answers soon, or your bfp obviously!! You hear stories about people getting it right before they start at a clinic!

Thanks MrsUnicorn. That's exactly why we are hoping is that we'll get our BFP this cycle so we don't have to deal with all the tests. Of course, that would be the cycle where my body is like "screw you, not gonna give you a blinky face" :haha:

Dh was going to schedule his SA for this Saturday since he can go whenever but I told him I'm possible due to O this weekend and I don't want to do that. He has to be abstinent for 2 days but not more than 5 before his test and if that is my O weekend that would basically throw me out of the running depending on O day. So I told him to schedule for next Saturday. Even if I get my BFP it won't just to start his test anyway. It's not a super expensive test. And then if it's done that's one less thing to do next month when I have a hundred tests to go through .

Well ladies, looks like I'm becoming an auntie (again, for the sixth time) today. My SIL had an ultrasound yesterday because she wasn't feeling her LO move around as much as he usually does, and they told her he wasn't breathing properly or moving enough. She's had to stay at the hospital overnight while they keep her hooked up to a monitor. She has an appointment with a specialist in about an hour to see what's going on.

Her LO also swelled in the last month or so. He was 40th percentile last month, this month he's now 90th percentile for overall size. She's due next month so it's not a huuuuge deal if he's born right now. He's already 6 pounds they guess. He just might have to live in an incubator for a bit.

Here's hoping everything turns out okay. She's got us all worried right now. We just want her and her LO to be safe.

oh abennion, you must be so worried. They are in the best hands at the hospital. I hope everything turns out ok, keep us posted. xx

Oh I hope everything turns out ok! Pls keep us posted!

How is everything with your sil abe? Sounds pretty worrying.

How is everyone else?

I'm still waiting for o :coffee: 4 days later than normal so far, I guess it's to be expected but it's annoying me now! We're also NTNP this cycle, which is a bit exciting but I'm definitely not expecting anything, especially having no idea when I'll o.

Abennion - hope all is well with your SIL.
