Looking for inspiration. What do you all do on Christmas Eve?

We have an evening tradition of xmas eve bag/boxes with new pyjamas, hot chocolate and a DVD in so all snuggle up before bed to watch the DVD.
Through the day the kids go to a Christmas scavenger hunt/tea party at my uncles house with my dad for a few hours so I can wrap last bits of presents and put out xmas eve bags.
I think this year I am going to start a new tradition now they are all a bit older of wrapping up warm, wellies and wooly hats on and we will go for a walk early evening to see how many lit up houses we can find then it will be home for the DVD and hot chocolate. We have a new puppy so this new tradition will incorporate her too :) x

nice breakfast
Christmas eve presents
a walk
takeaway
Christmas film in that order lol every year hehe
sprinkle reindeer food

For the past few years we have had a nice breakfast, maybe a trip to a park (weather depending) then Christmas Eve boxes and new PJ's for bed.

Christmas PJ's, film, take away, puzzle books and hot chocolate. Did Christmas Eve boxes last year. Might do another this year.

Then before bed we get a plate of food for Santa and Rudolf. When me and OH go to bed, we get the fake snow out.

We visit in-laws during the day (although last year my mother in law decided to go out even though she knew we were coming so a total wasted day :growlmad:) and then we do a walk to look at the Christmas lights, Christmas Eve box, bath, new pj's on watch new Christmas DVD, then reindeer food out, mince pie and carrot left out and then bed.

The last two years ds2 has been properly ill so I'm hoping this year will all go according to plan

- Sausage rolls for lunch
- A walk after lunch
- Watch dvds, Christmas telly etc (the snowman!)
- Go to a crib service at a local church (we're not churchgoers but it's a nice tradition and they're always kid friendly)
- Eat a big Christmas Eve dinner, part of my family is polish so we have a fish dinner on Christmas Eve
- This year I'm doing the Christmas Eve box thing! Got a really nice box from matalan that was a fiver, going to put in a board game, a new DVD and some chocolate buttons and stuff, then snuggle up and do that before bed.
- After DS is in bed, watch a more adult film (God...not porn!! Haha that sounded bad! I just meant a normal Christmas film like love actually or Christmas with the kranks :haha:)

Oh yeah, and leave out a plate with a mince pie and glass of sherry for santa (santa will be having rum this year as we're not spending it at my mums and I don't keep sherry in the house haha. Santa will be pleased!) and a carrot for Rudolph.

Love the takeaway idea! Might do that this year but for Boxing Day! Also really like the idea of an evening walk to see lit up houses. I love when you go for a walk on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day and it's acceptable to say merry Christmas to random strangers :D

Loving this thread, stalking for inspiration!

Buddy the elf goes back to the north pole to help santa load his sleigh but before he goes he leaves a north pole bfast. He also leaves their C'mas eve boxes.
We bake cookies for santa during the day and they have Christmas activity packs and a game to play.
In the evening we go for a walk around town to see all the C'mas lights, then back for a bath with C'mas bath bomb, matching pj's, dvd, hot chocolate, sweets and popcorn.
Leave out the magic key, Santa's milk and cookie, reindeer carrot, milk and sprinkle reindeer food. Then bed for the kids (with 'the night before c'mas book) and alcohol for the parents!!

I'm normally working so the only set traditions we have is clean bed, clean pyjamas, put out our stockings and leave out something for Santa.

I'm really looking forward to having a whole weekend this year.

We started last year with an Xmas eve box with new Jim jams, nativity figures to go under the tree and a book and we left a plate with mince pies etc. This year I like the idea mentioned above of a walk to look at lights before dinner then Xmas film and a little choc treat before bed. Then some fizzy pop for the grown ups before hanging the stocking up!

Stealing the scavenger hunt. Daughter would love that! Christmas Eve box too. I've never made one, but I think she'd like it.

The adult film (not porn)...LOL cracked me up!

Great ideas, ladies. Thanks.

Hubby used to get one of his big presents on Christmas Eve growing up but we both decided that Christmas Day is the day the kids get their presents and not before. Christmas Eve we don't really do anything special although I do make a gingerbread house or shortbread Christmas Tree for Santa the few days leading up to it and the kids leave it on the top of the fire with a beer or coke for Santa and a carrot and reindeer food for the reindeer. We might do a Christmas Eve movie before bed but we treat Christmas Eve like any other day. Christmas Day is a different story. Growing up, we were always expected to make our beds, tidy our rooms if they needed it, get dressed, have breakfast and wash up before we got our presents. And it gave Nana time to get over home for us to open them. But that is something we do with our children because we don't feel that getting up and helping themselves is right. Christmas Day is a day you want to spend it with everyone around the tree. They are allowed their Santa presents on their beds but everything else waits until we are ready and breakfast has been eaten. We also have taught the kids to not wake us up because they are impatient. They are pretty good and generally have had breakfast, make beds, gotten dressed and watch TV until we are all ready. :) Rooms are tidied and done properly the few days leading up so Santa doesn't trip and break an ankle. :haha:

Tremains Real Estate in Napier also do a Christmas Lights competition beginning of December so I fill up the car and we do the 4 hour thing with the lights list looking at the displays. I generally leave hubby behind because he struggles to sit in the car for that long with 2 arguing kids. :haha: But there are some really impressive displays that homeowners will let people walk around and they generally hand out lollies and candy canes which the kids love. Christmas Eve is usually the busiest night to check out the displays so we try a day or 2 before so we can get decent photos without everyone else's heads in them.

Christmas eve our elf heads back to north pole and we have christmas eve breakfast. We start with elf milk which is milk with a drop of food coloring and christmas tree waffles.
Kids then decorate cookies and we get dressed ready to drop them off at old people's home.

We nip to lidl to buy munchies and make sure i have everything for the big day

Once we're home the kids do their Christmas activity books that elfis has left and I prep for xmas diner

We have takeaway and watch christmas film then my kids go with my parents to see the lights and I panic wrap lol

Once home we do reindeer dust, teeth then bed. I then sit up till wee small hours waiting on them falling asleep so santa can set up living room. A baileys is a must also.

Xxxx

Oops we also leave a plate with a cookie for santa a carrot for ruddolph and milk x

Lol Wow wackymum:xmas1: there is no way in this earth or the next I could get myself or the kids to tidy room make beds etc and not wake up early on Christmas day. That's part of the fun in this house...the one day rules dont apply and little faces appear by my bedside from 5.30 onwards :xmas3::xmas15:.

mine as well they get up and our literary running around screaming in excitement and thats just me and dh lol

Haha agree, I remember when I was about 10 my then teenage sister taking ages to do her bloody makeup on Christmas morning and me rushing her along and she said "the novelty will wear off for you in a few years and you won't get this excited on Christmas morning". I remember thinking "that will never happen to me". 16 years later and it still hasn't happened

Hahaha ladies I hear ya. I literally stay up all night sorting stuff have a baileys for my gran who is no longer with us and loved christmas.
Then lay in bed listening for santas bells. :happydance:
Ruddolph needs to stay off my roof this year though as I have some loose tiles:dohh:
