Circumcision?

Sunshine that pretty much echoes what I have read too. :) I will not have my son (should I have one) circ'ed.

We have discussed this recently with several friends who are having boys and I think I have decided to get this done if I have a boy for several reasons: My best friend had her oldest son done and her youngest was not done, well the youngest just had to have it done because of a blockage due to not being circumcised He was in a whole lot of pain and no 3 year old should have to go through that...My cousin who is a medical assistant for a urologist see's many men having problems because of not being circumcised and so she is getting her son done when he is born...My sister did not have her son's done and now at the age of 1 1/2 he had to have surgery 2 times down there because of not being circumcised....

Just because you don't hear of these problems happening where you are from does not mean they don't happen. I would not have known about my friends son's problems unless I asked her what I should do if I had a boy and then she told me...It is not like people go around saying yeah my son is having problems with his penis <-----Kinda a personal thing, I know I wouldn't tell anyone about it!!!

but the thing is these problems tend to only happen the US. Besides a defect needing medical intervention, I see no ther problems. The reason boys in the US have problems is simply because parents and doctors dont know how to take care of them. They force retraction of the foreskin which causes problems and infections. They just need to be left alone. These problems are US problems.

Now THAT is rediculas!!! oh yeah just because you havent heard of something means it doesnt exist!! Pfffft
maybe you should do your research instead of making such ignorant statements!
My brother had to be circumcised due to a medical condition which has nothing to do with how you look after your penis! He was 30 when he developed it and was in AGONY!! Now that he has openly discussed it we have discovered his best friend and an uncle both have the same condition just not as severe YET. They thought it was normal to not be able to pull back the foreskin fully! Many men dont seek help for personal problems like these.
Oh...and we are in the UK!!!!

My best friend had her oldest son done and her youngest was not done, well the youngest just had to have it done because of a blockage due to not being circumcised He was in a whole lot of pain and no 3 year old should have to go through that...My cousin who is a medical assistant for a urologist see's many men having problems because of not being circumcised

I'm sorry, but this is factually incorrect. As a few ladies have said, most countries in the world do not circumcise their children. If your point applied to even a fraction of men who were not circumcised, many more men would be having problems, but the fact is they don't. Yeah fair enough, they don't go round saying "I have problems with my penis", but in the UK and most of Europe it is not done and not necessary, because it does not cause a problem in the vast majority of cases. There would be widespread circumcision of men going on in the UK if it lead to problems, such as some of those suggested, but alas there is not! x

oh and the video you posted... the man presenting it said that in Scotland this surgery is not carried out...this is so not true so it would make me doubt his accuracy in other areas

Scotland subscribes to the NHS,the same way as every other part of the UK. It is not performed here, unless you pay for the procedure privately. I know I am just one person in Scotland, but I personally have not heard of or know of anyone who is circumcised.

"NHS availability
The NHS does not fund routine circumcision or circumcision that is carried out for religious reasons.

The NHS only funds circumcision that is used treat a small number of medical conditions. In such cases, circumcision is usually regarded as a ‘treatment of last resort’ when all other treatment options have failed."

Quote from NHS Website.
This is FACTUALLY incorrect :winkwink:

i know many people who have had it performed on the NHS here for religious reasons. heres the proof

You blaming parents and doctors is just wrong...My best friends cleaned both of her sons very well and the US has some of the best medical care in the world I think our doctors know what they are doing...We are not lazy and clean ourselves and our kids very well...I think these problems exist every where Like I said you just don't hear about it because it is a personal thing and we don't go around talking about problems with our privates.

I really don't think you should go around saying things like this to people from other parts of the country. It doesn't sit well with some people. Even if you live in the US...You don't have the right to blame the parents or doctors!!!

I am from the US. Thanks. And you can say I am wrong, but the fact still remains that these problems are more of a US problem. Circed penises need to be just left alone, not constantly cleaned, pulling the foreskin back. NOne of that is necessary. Also the US may have some great medical care but we also have one of the highest infant/mother mortality in the industrialized world. So with all of our medical advances we still fall far, far behind in many areas.

Men ARE advised to clean under their foreskins everyday!!! And thats in the u.k. Does your dh just leave it alone?? I wouldnt allow a man anywhere near me that did not clean his tackle. That is basic hygeine!

If you actually read my response I said barring any medical conditions, whether they are birth defects, or medical conditions. Of course there are instances where it is necessary, but the majority of men do not have problems.

I am not talking about men, but children, that is my fault, I should have been more clear, I apologize. The foreskin is not meant to retract at infancy, or even toddlerhood, but 9 times out of 10, a pediatrician will forceably retract the foreskin, which is not advised. This is done in the US routinely. And I think it is done moreso because of lack of education, and know how TBH. And when those things are done at an early age the chance of a future problem is increased. Oh, and my husband does not own a foreskin, and if he did I of course would want him to clean his tackle often!!! LOL!!

It actually makes me wince thinking of a poor little child having their foreskin forceably pulled back and then chopped off. I would make me sick to my stomach knowing that Id allowed that to be done to my child and they had to go through unnecessary pain based on unfounded information.

I dont consider a medical condition that developed over time to be a defect.... what conditions are you referring to being US related only?

I agree with you when it comes to forcible retraction and its not something that is done in UK and im surprised at it being done in a country as advanced as the US!

Unless it's for medical reasons, what other right do you have? People are basing this on 'what ifs'. Equally, circumcision for customs sake poses few problems.

My conclusion is that I don't own my child. I'll leave it for him to decide in case 'what if' happens. It's a controversial one and no point arguing about it. In the end, people will do as they please regardless of facts.

Well I own my child till he is 18 or out of my house and I will decide what is right until then.. I am great mom and I am confident that getting them ALL circumcised was the right thing for them ...

:flower::flower:

the only issue i have with that is once 18 what if the child decides it is NOT right for them??
it IS irreversible

I don't think any other reason other than medical or religious can justify this op. i dont think it should be done for cosmetic reasons. religious reasons i understand...but not neccessarily agree with. Many children who are part of a certain faith would not be accepted into the community unless this had been performed and parents would be ostrasised. if a parent has strong beliefes that their child will be punished and got to hell should this not be done then i respect their reason for doing it. :flower:

I think the majority of uncircumsised males don't have a problem. My family are full of boys and only one of them has had to be circumcisied due to medical reasons. NONE of the others have had a problem, whilst training to be a children's nurse I have never seen a child being circumcisied due to complications. A small minority have problems with the appendix and that is life threatening if not treated but we don't whip those out at birth do we? Why? Because it isn't seen as medically nessicary, and medical professionals don't think that it would be beneficial . If the risks of being uncircumcisied were that high the NHS would offer it as it would improve the health of babies and it would prevent problems later in life. But this isn't the case and it isn't seen as a nessicary surgical procedure because the benefits are minimal x eta. Sorry for typos I'm on my phone x tu

But why do you feel it was the right thing?

So far all Ive heard from those who are pro circumcision is them saying they are getting it done and its their "right" to decide. No-one has actually given any factual or medical evidence to back up their decision. Those who are anti circumcision have explained why and provided research to show why. Im not saying anyone has to justify their opinion but it would be lovely to know why those people feel that they are doing the right thing by having it done to their children rather than just saying it wont do them any harm, Im having it done, end of.

I have never been with a man that wasn't cirumcised, and honestly have never ever heard of a man wanting their foreskin back.

I've been with a few uncircumcised guys.. and it was way better, in my opinion. I've only had UTI's from circumcised guys.. so that hygiene thing is crap.

I have. Have to say I didnt like it either. When performing certain acts there wasnt as much to "play with" and it made things different

It was just the right thing for us and you have no right to question my choice nor I do yours. My husband was born in Italy and is NOT circumcised and he wanted his 3 sons circumcised we decided together as responsible parents. I think the last thing my kids would care about on their 18th birthday is being circumcised>>LOL My oldest is 20 and all of his friends are circumcised so to them that is the norm. How dare you question me or anyone else, this is an opinion thread and that is my opinion and my choice for my sons. And if God ever gives me another child and it is a boy he also will be circumcised, I would never question you as a parent or say you don't care about your child cause your choice is different than mine. so shame on you..
Now I am done with this thread.. have a great day :flower:
