Hi ladies!

I am fairly new to the forums and I have a question regarding OPK's in the morning.

I know a lot of people say not to use OPK's in the morning because it generally doesn't fare well and/or could give a false positive, but I have also seen a lot of people say they only get their positives first thing in the morning and if they wait until later in the day, they miss their surge.

Well, my cycles are beyond screwed up and i'm currently working on fixing that, so i'm not sure when or if I ovulate. I started trying OPK's this month for the first time in years (I have PCOS but I don't get consistently positive results like some do) and so far they have all been very negative. I'd been testing just once a day at 2-3pm. I have not been temping as i'm trying to get myself into a proper sleep schedule before I start that, because at the moment, taking my temperature at the same time every morning after 3-5 hours solid sleep is impossible.

So, this morning I got up at approx 8.45am. I bought an opk + pregnancy test bundle off ebay a little while ago, and because tomorrow is the Bathurst 1000 (fellow aussies will probably know what that is) and I plan to drink, I decided to take a pregnancy test juuuuust to be sure. I thought, what the hell, i'll do an OPK too since I have like 60 of them and it can't hurt.

The pregnancy test was negative as expected, but the opk result was the closest thing to positive that I have ever had, and it showed up within the first 5 minutes. All of my previous ones have shown a very, very, very faint line (and you have to look at it HARD like you do when you're trying to see a faint line on a pregnancy test :P) which i'm told is a very normal negative, and it sometimes gets darker after the 10 minute reading window which I obviously always disregard (even when it gets darker after the time limit, it's never gotten this dark).

Obviously it's not quite there yet, and i'm not even sure if it WILL get there.. I guess my question is, what should I take from this? Should I disregard it because it's from FMU and could be a false positive? I plan to do another one next time I have to tinkle just to see what it says because now i'm really curious lol. I think i'm just a little over excited because i've never had a result like this before.

Has anyone else had any luck with FMU opk's?

Okay well, I did another one around 10.20am because I couldn't help myself.. and I don't know if it's just my imagination but it seemed even a tad darker... I've posted a picture, so please feel free to tell me if it seems like i'm seeing things. The FMU test is on the bottom and the 10.20am one is on the top. The picture isn't great, but you get the idea...

This is kind of exciting.. I've never had a result like this before.. Perhaps I should get DH to come home from work for lunch today...

Well, it's back to negative! I tested again at 5.40pm. My friend said that I probably caught the end of my surge. If I had tested yesterday like I was supposed to but forgot, I probably would have caught the beginning of it baha. Oh well. Next month I will be more aware :P

For comparison here's the (what I think is) positive from earlier, and the negative from just before.

That's the result I had been getting all week; a barely-there-but-still-JUST-visible line.

i would say that the 10.20am one is pretty close to positive. i know you said you don't temp, but do you chart any other signs? either way, i would get your husband and get busy as much as you can over the next couple days:winkwink:
