Right well my baby boy (born 8/4/13) was on Aptamil Formula Milk and I noticed that he wasn't pooing often and always seemed in pain - pulling his legs up to his tummy, clenching fists, tummy went hard and he went bright red. Now I recognised these symptoms from when our daughter suffered with colic when she was a baby. Back then they didn't do Comfort milk so she was on colief and infacol with her feeds but she still suffered bad and brought all her feeds back up so we really struggled with her. So anyways my HV said I should try infacol again or Aptamil Comfort milk. We decided to swap him on to the comfort milk 3 days ago. Apart from passing alot of stinky wind not alot has changed just yet but I know its still early days so I'll wait and see. Anyways I've just read that you shouldn't keep them on the comfort milk permanently. But surely swapping them back to the original normal milk will bring the original colic problem back? What would anyone recommend? Would alternating each feed with original milk then comfort milk be the right thing to do maybe? Helppp

I don't know about keeping them on it longer term - our little boy has a mix of breastmilk and Aptamil Comfort as he has colic - he does the stinky farts too and his poo is really stinky and green (normal apparently!!) - it does take a week or two for the effects of a new milk to take so give it some time. Colief didn't do anything for George - infacol helped a bit but now he has Gripe Water which really helps him bring his burps up. We plan to keep him on Comfort milk as long as he needs - although they say colic tends to pass after 3-4 months.

Thank you :) I'm not sure what to do now if honest as I'm struggling with the comfort milk. It just keeps clogging up the teats. We bought bigger teats but it still keeps happening and we constantly find ourselves having to unclog the teats. So I think im just gonna go back to the normal Aptamil number one milk and try Infacol. Do you have this problem with teats blocking up? Xx

Hi, ive just switched my lo back onto Aptimil 1 on the advice of my hv. He was exactly like your lo and infacol just made him constipated.

I started to wean him off the comfort at about 13 weeks, and hes now 15 weeks and he's fine, he isnt suffering like he was before. Apparently for most babies the windy problems ease around 14 weeks and it seems to be true in my lo's case.

The hv told me that as they get bigger, the comfort milk doesnt satisfy them for long enough and you can end up feeding them every hour. It didnt quite get that bad but at about 12 weeks he was wanting fed every 2/2.5 hours. Now he is going almost 4.

The only problem ive found is that he's dropped a daytime feed, and isnt taking anymore per bottle, so he's back to 2 night feeds! :(

I used Dr Browns bottles with number 2 teats and they did occasionally clog up, i used boiling water, not water boiled 30 mins earlier, and mixed well and it did seem to be better.

Hope that helps!
