There seems to be conflicting information everywhere! Here's what I thought: food before one is mainly for fun; milk (formula or breast milk) is the main source of nutrition; babies drop bottles on their own as their food intake goes up. My LO was BLW and so didn't drop a bottle until around 8 months. Now he's on three bottles of formula a day. He was having 2 meals a day plus a small snack until recently. However, since he's become mobile, he's been waking hungry so we've upped to three meals and snacks when we have them.
I've just introduced small amounts of cow's milk in a sippy cup with his lunch and he also drinks water. I thought this was all perfect and I've always taken his lead.
My HV came round today and told me he needs to be having two bottles a day and to replace the third (around midday) with cow's milk and to give him food if he's hungry.
LO will be ten months on the 1st March. Does this sound about right? I was given the impression by the HV that I should have been 'weaning' him off milk since six months and he should've been having more food than milk. This doesn't seem right to me... LO loves his food but I've never pushed solids on him and I've always milk fed on demand. Am I wrong?!
