I want to share something that even my mum doesn't know! Only the love of my life, Q-Guy, and the bestest of best friend Miss-L know this. Someone in a similar situation might get something out of this story...

It's something that I, as someone who consider myself to be an intelligent, successful, responsible person, shudder to think of. Something I thought should only happen to irresponsible teenagers, or people so deep in pot addiction, that most days they wear their underwear backwards...

It's this....

I've failed. At contraception.

I've failed so many times, that I've already had six pregnancy losses. One of them was an early abortion. Two were surprises, and though I tried to keep them, I lost them at 6-7 weeks. Three of them very early so called "chemical pregnancies".

Tell me about it.
Every time I vowed to be more careful. Try new weird contraception (the plaster, the ring, femcap, sperm killers, progesterone pills..) Wear condoms every time. Wear condoms AND refrain from sex during ovulation. Just refrain from sex (which tanked faster than my no-sugar-November).

Ultimately, after five miscarriages in two years, with dreams and names of the babies I'd lost still racing in my mind, my body a tired, allergic mess, once even collapsing in anaphylactic shock... We decided to just give up with contraception, and have a go at conceiving.

What's the difference? You may ask.

Well, first we stopped having sex. We finally got the hang of it - three years into our relationship, we were at the point that on a Friday evening we resembled more walruses than bunnies.

Then, we visited the hospital. Did every (reasonably priced) test available to get the doctor's OK.

Next step: I googled like hell.

What was wrong with my body? Thyroid? Where did my allergies come from? How's my immune system? Why am I always cold and tired? What's with my hormones? Why did I keep getting miscarriages??

Chris Kresser, Maca communities, probiotics, thyroid doctors, Chinese medicine... I read it all.

Next up, a few more trips to three hospitals for various tests (thyroid, allergies, Chinese traditional hospital). A lot of the tests that are recommended (leaky gut, gut dysbiosis, adrenaline fatigue) don't exist here, so I just winged it.

Living in China, I've become an avid believer of natural medicine. Here, a visit to the "Western" hospitals results with a prescription for antibiotics, even if you came in complaining of hemorrhoids!

I ended up making a 4 month, six step plan, combining existing plans to solve my personal problems, and creating a table for me to follow myself. Let's have a go at getting a screenshot of the table here...

As you can see, I'm at my last step! It required a lot of sourcing for supplements, hours on cooking home and innovative ways to take lunch, and installing things like air and water purifiers. I had to learn new skills, like making my own sauerkraut and bone broth, and overcome my no-I-will-never-stoop-to-a-mass-craze -mentality to start daily yoga.

1. Anti inflammation & kill everything from gut: Fast a few days, drink antivirals like oregano oil. Eat as simple as possible, self made veggie juice and meat soup. No dairy, gluten, sugar or eggs, MSG, industrial salt or oils. Drink clean. Move slowly. Walk. Have high quality mineral salt to keep you balanced.

2. Build your gut: Make a good bacteria balance, and thus get an immune system and start absorbing nutrition. Start with half a capsule of dairy probiotics, later on occasionally add soil probiotics, then self-fermented foods. Up the dosage very carefully, or you'll suffer from headaches! Start adding fruits, veggies, good carbs (purple yams, sweet potatoes), small amounts of meat. Keep on juices, add bone broths, coconut oil, green tea. I even added liquid colostrum to help me heal. More walking.

3. Methylation: help your body kick out the crap. Use B12 (someone recommended a spray), methylation pills, folinic acid (not folic acid! It's not as easy to absorb!). Add easy exercise, like daily yoga. Yes, I started dairy, as I couldn't stand life without it. Try get massage as often as possible (thanks Q-Guy) and drink as much water that you can stomach. You can add white/black rice.

4. Minerals & Nutrition: zinc, calcium, magnesium, selenium. Buy them separately and take them separately to maximize absorption. Magnesium before bed! At this point, your body can absorb stuff. Don't overdose on minerals - leave some days empty, depending on what you eat. Start scarfing some food. I mean real good balanced food. Seafood, organic veggies, sesame seeds, yams, lentils, beans, goat cheese, jujubes and goji berries, all those weird soups Chinese people eat... In ADDITION to eating all that m*thfuck*n bone broth and sauerkraut and green tea you were already on. Yes, you could add an insanely expensive piece of fresh dark chocolate here. Otherwise, sugars and gluten are off!

5. Time to get your hormones balanced! Start eating maca, and couple it with L-Arginine for maximum affect. Yes, you have to feed them to dear hubs too. Start with a small amount (1/4 teaspoon), upping it to 3/4 teaspoon. Vary the time of day you eat it, but never before bed time. Sometimes skip a day. Always take it COOKED to prevent stomach pains and get the delicious taste (mixing it with boiling water does the trick. The Peruvians never eat Maca raw). In the beginning, it will give you headaches and period pains, decrease dosage if necessary. Ramp up your daily yoga with a couple of days a week of dancing/running. 30 minutes is OK!

6. Get sexy back. At this point, I can tell you, you'll both be MIIIGHTY rusty... On the bright side, after this, you'll look friggin' hot and are energetic enough to get that engine going again.

On my path, I read millions of "I ate a bottle of soil probiotics, why do I still feel shitty?" or "I got stomach ache from bone broth WTF", "I eat veggies every day, why can't I get pregnant" questions. As you see, it's a PROCESS. And it has lots of moving PIECES. It's also a lot of WORK. You can't skip phases or leave out crucial parts. If you're in a bad condition, it might take years to heal.

Some might ask "what about coke?" "are sandwiches healthy?", "how about ice cream". Nope. All out the window. I cheated some though, by eating organic potato chips and fresh ice cream (less preservatives). If you cheat - do it with the most nutritious, clean quality product you can afford. Not with skittles or gummy bears. :winkwink:

What if you don't have the time?
I managed to get by by using a "cooking lunch container": chop in the veggies and yams, add some hot water and oil, and by lunch time it's a soup. Q-Guy provided me with the animal kingdom foods. My freezer has been a supportive friend, too.

Soo..... I feel great. I have a new life, am happy and energetic and can go full throttle on my job. My skin is clear, hair is long, nails are growing...

How about the baby-issues? Weeelll... I just posted on "two week wait"...
