Am I correct in thinking that it takes about two weeks to get test results from CVS testing in the US? Anyone know?

It took us a week (twice, once for each boy) for the full results. You can ask for a FISH test for the most common trisomies (and gender ) which will come back after 1-2 days.

Thanks!

One website I looked at said two to FOUR WEEKS! I can handle two weeks, but can't possibly handle four!

The test would have to look for some pretty specific stuff, so I'm betting two weeks.

Congratulations! I'm so pleased for you.

I think it will depend what exactly they are looking for and what type of test they need to do on it (as for some of the chromo issues they use tests other than the 'standard' ones they do for peole having cvs/amnios for the 'common' chromo issues.

I had an amnio done at 21+5 (it was done so late due to hospital admin errors, grrr) to look for the specific chromo problem that Findlay has as we have a 1:2 chance of this baby having it too and was told it would be about 2 weeks for results. It has now been 3 weeks and 1 day since the test and I still don't have the results and I'm going utterly insane waiting by the phone.

I hope your cvs results come back clear and you get them back quickly :hugs:

I am so sorry that must be agony waiting. That is so unfair they could have put a rush on them. They think my baby had Trisomy 18 . I lost her 4 weeks ago at 18 weeks. I am still waiting for the results. When I went for the amnio they discovered no heartbeat . I was so worried before the amnio that the doctor told me he would put a 3 day rush on the results. I felt a little easier knowing this, but by the time I took the actual test it was to late for me. I am so sorry you are going through this  I wish you all the best..xoxoox:hugs::hugs::hugs: If I do get pregnant again and that is a big IF I will do the CVS testing as it can be done earlier.

I'm not necessarily pregnant yet, but I want to be prepared.

I'm sorry you have to wait so long. Maybe today's the day you'll find out!

Oh, if they are looking for very specific types of genetic problems, it can take longer - we had that as well, it took us 3-4 weeks, unfortunately, as they had to wait for cells to grow (sample was contaminated with my blood). Yeah, it's a loooong wait. But yet another advantage of the cvs over amnio.

Do you think its worth trying to convince the doctor that it shouldn't be put off until 12 weeks? That's the plan we discussed immediately after Carrick's death. The risk of possible termination is pretty great, so I'm trying to get as much information as I can before its the last minute.

When they tested Carrick's blood when he was alive, it took them two weeks to find the genetic issue. Do you think it would take longer with the CVS test vs. the standard karotyping test they do with blood?

I think they don't do CVS prior to 10 weeks due to potential for limb amputations. Where I had them done, they start them at 11 weeks, and that's when I had both of mine. Oh and I had bloods done the day of the CVS, and they came back a week or so quicker than the specialized CVS testing.

I've been told that if our prenatal results come back 'clear' that they will still need to take blood from the baby when she's born to send for testing (which will take around 2wks for results) in case the prenatal test gives a false negative so we won't know 100% until 2 weeks after the baby is born if they are free of it or not. I think it depends which test they use prenatally though (and I think which test they use depends on the chromo issue they are looking for)
