I'm 27 weeks and just starting to think about my hospital bag.

Just wondering what do I need to wear for after the birth when still in hospital (hopefully will only be there for one day but best to be prepared). Do people stay in pyjamas/nightie all the time or do you get dressed in soft comfortable clothes?

I thought i'd bring one pair of pjs (maybe with a nursing vest top too), one nightie (in case pjs uncomfortable in that area!) and maybe trackie bottoms and a couple of vests/tshirts. Does that sound right? (Obviously OH or my mum can get me more if needed anyway)

Am I right in thinking that it is absolutely best to go for everything in black to hide potential embarassing blood marks on the backs?

I need to buy it all new (just cheap from Primark or M&S I think) but no idea what size to go for? How big will I be after giving birth? I'm usually a size 10. How many sizes up should I go? Would my size now (at 27 weeks) perhaps be a good guide if I go try some stuff on? Or is that bigger/smaller than you would expect after giving birth?

Daft questions I know but it is so hard to know these things!

I read that your belly will be at about the 5 months pregnant mark after the birth so your best bet is maternity clothes to start with.
I'm taking a couple of nighties/pjamas and just one comfy maternity outfit for coming home in. If I'm in longer or bleeding through pads I'll just wear the hospital gowns - saves ruining mine!

Im taking the sizes that im in now roughly and have tried to aim at dark colours xxx

I wore the hospital gown throughout my stay. If you feel more comfy in your own clothes, definetly bring them along. If your body looks like a 10 around 35wks (excluding bump) then i think size 12 would be a good guess. You might be a bit swollen afterwards.

I was a size 10 before getting pg, afterwards i wore my hubbys old button up shirts coz they were easy to bf in. Apart from bump, i looked a size 12 before birth. I would guess that i was a size 12 after the birth with a jelly belly.

There was alot of blood on my bright pink hospital gown, especially at the back.

I've not stayed in hospital after birth before, just got dressed and went home. The last 3 times ive been very lucky and was back in my regular size 8 clothes the same day, but.. I have bought a nice pair of size 12 pj's and dressing gown to lounge around in at home just incase I'm not so lucky this time, and even if i am.. a couple of sizes bigger will deffo be more comfy!

I'd take in a pair of comfy maternity troos and a roomy T-shirt. A pair of jim jams or trackies in a bigger size is a good buy as you can comfortably wear a pair of oversized j-js or trackies at home even if you snap back into shape.

Thanks girls!

Think I'm going to go normal clothes (particulary pjs and tracksuit bottoms) 2 sizes up (as probably better to err on the bigger side for comfort!), hopefully can find some bargains.

Will bring maternity clothes for going home but don't really want to buy any more maternity pjs etc especially as they are more expensive. Don't even use them now - use cheap maternity vest tops with my normal stretchy waist pj shorts (not sutiable nightwear for public though!). I didn't quite have a bump yet at 5 months so if that's a good guide hopefully I won't have much of one (just a horrible stretchy stomach) after!

All this talk of blood scares me!

I have packed some black PJ, two sizes bigger than what i should be but has tie ups, 3 x black vest tops (two with inner support) and my labour dress. My black PJ bottoms can be worn when leaving the hospital as they look like black trousers. I will have a pile of extra clothes incase i am not in and out within a day as i am planning, hubby can grab them if needed.

I'm an 8/10 so will be taking a size 8 night dress ( I have small boobs so a 10 would be too big up top) but will take size 10 pjs. x
