:hi:

Looking for some ideas on how to deal with my toddler at nap and bed times. I recently took away her dummy as she started wanting it constantly, day and night (she previously only had it to sleep) and it was causing me toddler tantrums all day long. She's 22 months now, her 6 month old brother doesn't have a dummy, she's not teething and I think it's time to give it up. I let her throw away the dummies herself and she did it happily but now she will not go to bed. I try to prepare her with reading, she brushes her teeth, helps me feed the cat and collects up her favourite teddies ect but nothing makes a difference. I've tried sitting in with her but it makes her more determined to get back out again, I can't take her out because she's so tired she's miserable. So do I just leave her and let her fall asleep eventually? I feel awful :-(

TIA for any suggestions.

In what way is she tantrumming? Is it like she's just stalling bedtime or could she be overtired?what's her routine like for naps?

She would usually have 1 nap at lunchtime but she is completely refusing even though she's very tired. She will hit me or herself (or the cat  ) scream, shout no repeatedly, cry and no matter how I try to reason with her she will not go to sleep. She continues to scream and cry in her bed until I eventually cave and get her back out (bare in mind that this can go on for well over an hour). Obviously I can drop the nap but even still she doesn't want to go to bed at night. Not sure what I can do, keeping her up until 9-10pm every night is not an option.

Would an earlier bedtime work? What time does she wake? Emily is up at 8ish and on no nap days will be in bed for 7 Sharp

My route would be putting her in her bed and leaving her there. Not the most popular view I know but it's worked well for me with both of them.
We've recently taken the dummy away from DD. First night she cried for it and me on and off for an hour. She wasn't distressed-just stroppy-so I left her. Since then she's asked for it but not cried for more than about 30 seconds most nap/sleep times.
