Ok ill keep this short....

Back in Nov I was referred by my dentist to a specialist dental hospital for 2 extractions under sedation.
I had a voicemail yesterday from the hospital saying that they had a date ready for me to go in.
I will be phoning back today when they open to discuss being pregnant with them....
Im only being sedated due to the fact my dentist said she can try to pull them but the one tooth wont come out as a whole..to which I refused as dont want it to be made any more uncomfortable for myself.
Do you think they will change the sedation and do it under a local? Is having a local anesethic safe in the second tri?
Im really hoping they can take the teeth out without the need of sedation and I dont have to wait until after baby born as they are so uncomfortable for me :(
Have any of you have teeth out under a local whilst pregnant?
They do have the option of gas and air also......

Im in the uk if that makes any difference? X

No but I may have to as I think I may have an abscess @_@ I'm in the US though. Best of luck to you!! Sorry I don't have any advice to give, but I didn't wanna read and run! Bumping in the hopes someone does see it that can answer your questions! <3

I had a wisdom tooth that they did an emergency pull on exactly a week ago. I had my bottoms out when I was 16, and they never took my tops, but apparently when they do that the tooth has no other tooth to tell it to stop coming down. So my tooth was basically coming out of my jaw. They told me they had to take it because bacteria could get into the hole between my tooth and the gum/jaw and it would pose a threat to the LO if I got an infection.

Long story short, I had a local. It's perfectly safe as long as they use Lidocaine without epinephrine. Epinephrine will raise your bp which isn't good during preg. My OB said that Lidocaine is 100% safe during pregnancy, no risks to baby or anything and they recommend the second tri as the best time to get dental work done if you have to have it done.

They won't do any kind of sedation, though, as that is not suppose to be safe.

I hope that helps!

Oh, and as far as pain goes, it wasn't bad at all. I didn't need to take tylenol or anything. I think the jaw pain from holding the dressing in hurt more than the actual tooth, and that also went away after a few days. I didn't feel anything during the procedure, either.

Healthy teeth and gums are very important, especially in pregnancy. In first trimester,I had an abscess that I had to fix and scheduled for oral surgery (local numbing, totally awake). I double checked with doc who said 100% needed to do it. I refused to take the pain meds though, so pretty uncomfortable for awhile.

Thanks ladies.
I phoned them back and they said a local when pg is safe and are quite happy to remove them both under a local. I will be talking to the dentist before the procedure though so will make sure they use the correct one!
Thanks for the reassurance ladies :) xx

This ^^ I had a local a couple of days ago as I needed a lump removed, so I asked what LA they were using and they initially wanted to use Lidocaine with epinephrine. I asked if they had any without the epinephrine component and they were very accommodating and went and found some and used that instead.

Epinephrine is effectively adrenaline which constricts the blood vessels to prevent too much bleeding, however it can cause spasms in the umbilical cord and restrict blood flow temporarily. This was unacceptable to me so I asked for the Lidocaine without epinephrine and accepted the risk of slightly more bleeding from the wound.
