Just needing a bit of advice as ttc. I recently stoped the depo injections on the 28th oct. it's only been three weeks but after reading a lot of horror stories about it taking years for periods to come back I'm just trying to find if there is anything I can do to help them return. I'm almost 30 and feel like my time could be running out as I know fertility reduces at around 35. Should I consult my gp if after a month my period haven't returned or should I wait longer just don't want to leave it too late. I wasn't aware that it coukd take years for my periods to return just presumed they would return almost straight away. I have a pretty healthy life style and have started taking pregnacare vitamins which the doctor recommended. Only had three depo shots and periods stopped almost straightaway.
Thanks

I've had the depo injection twice. Once in 2008 & another in 2010. Both time my period came back after 3months. The depo injection protects you from conceiving for 3months so that's how long my periods stayed away each time. Like you, I read the horror stories & never had the injection again.

Thanks rirose for replying!
Not sure if I'm just panicking after reading all the horror stories but just worrying my periods won't come back now for months! Just don't want to waste any time if there's things I could be doing to get things moving n my periods flowing. Three months is good compared to the stories I have been reading its been more like 1 year!

I know! That's why I stopped. I've just recently bought a ClearBlue Fertility monitor because I have no clue when I ovulate & I'm panicking that the depo injection has messed up my chances of conceiving even though I got my periods back after 3 months! I haven't started using it just yet.
I think it's terrible that the nurse didn't tell me I could have serious problems conceiving from the depo injection!

I was on Depo for 8 years..i took the last shot in march 2007 and the next month i started birth control pills until december 2007. I was not getting proper periods but i continued taking the BCP anyway. I finished my last pack of BCP in december and in mid january 2008 i was pregnant with my now 4 year old. I never had any issues while taking it..everyone responses differently..good luck to you!

Native did you take the birth control pills to help regulate your periods?

Rirose I bought an ovulation kit today too as I have no idea when I'm ovulating but then again if I'm not having a period can I still ovulate? So I kind of figured it was a waste of money as need to get my periods flowing first to use it.

Yes i took BCP at the advice of my doctor to help regulate my periods as depo can really throw them off. It was more of a precaution because you can ovulate without a period and I was not ready for a baby at that point. Once i stopped the BCP i got pregnant right away.

i had depo in late nov'2010 after i gave birth to my youngest didnt have a cycle dec-march got it back in april then got pregnant in may didnt end in full term but i had got it again in nov'2011 didnt have a cycle from dec-march FINALLY got it back in may and ive been ttc since june-oct . at first it was easy to become pregnant now its not . but i took ginger root to get my cycle back cause i started getting worried it wouldnt come after i hit may i took it for two weeks and got my cycle .. they say ginger root can help bring back a cycle .

Native didn't realise they use bcp to regulate your periods! That's good to know. Think I may just make an appointment with doc in a few weeks time if there is still no sign of my period but not sure if they will do anything as it will have only been just over a month after stoping injection. I'm just more concerned of wasting time n it being too late to do anything.

Cutler thanks for that I'm going to look into the ginger root. Every little that could help I'm willing to consider!

Is it normal too to have cramping in lower stomach and tingling boobs when stopping depo injection? Never had any side effects while on the injection other than periods stoped.

your welcome love & look into geritol and lydia pinkham too : ]

What are they? Of they help with getting your periods going?

Hey...
I was on the Deppo for a year or so came of it October 1st 2007...
Went onto the Mini Pill Femulin and even taking BC with an unplanned Pregnancy found out in the Feb 2008 I was 9 weeks pg...
The BCP did regulate my periods :)

Good Luck xx

Thanks kobes for replying. Seems bcp are possibly my next option then it help get me started. It didn't take you long at all to fall preg then, that's good to know cos all I'm reading is it will take 1year plus to get pregnant. Gives me some hope that my body may return to normal sooner rather than later ! :)

I was due for a depo shot on the 29th of August and had been on it since the end of May 2011 and I got my first af on October 1st and O'd on cd 12, but I got af at 10 dpo on October 22nd, and am now on cd 23 and 12 dpo. I am going for a blood pregnancy test tomorrow morning. I chart and the link is in my signature. Also, I am 39. So you just never know how your body will be after any birth control.

Mom really sorry but I'm new to all this and don't know what all the abbreviations mean haha I must sound really stupid but what does od, cd, af, dpo mean, thanks.

they say when you get off of depo or any BC to start taking prenatals alreadly but instead take geritol its a better vit them prenatals and take folic acid with it . plus people swear by it when they got pregnant . same for lydia pinkham its suppose to help you get pregnant .
What are they? Of they help with getting your periods going?

O'd = Ovulated
cd = cycle day
af = aunt flo (period)
dpo = days past ovulation

I went to my doc today for a pap and hormone test...I got my last Depo in August and was due Nov 6. We decided to stop and start TTC. My doc told me today that I should start my cycle in a month or so and if not, come see her. I asked her about the 6-18 months and she said that's rare. I'm hoping hoping she's right!!

Well after talking to my partner last night we have decided that we will wait till around a month n half n if my periods haven't started I'm going to book into the docs n see if they will do anything for me. Would rather they start naturally if possible. I am having cramping really low down n it does feel like period pains but had it around a week with no show of it :(
