Depo injection, no period

Thanks kobes for replying. Seems bcp are possibly my next option then it help get me started. It didn't take you long at all to fall preg then, that's good to know cos all I'm reading is it will take 1year plus to get pregnant. Gives me some hope that my body may return to normal sooner rather than later ! :)

Stay positive love, I wasnt even planning it, and i had heard the year to regulate too so was very shocked, hope you get back to a cycle soon xx

Hey :)
I had one shot of the depo (my husband had changed his mind about ttc and wasn't told that it can mess with cycles). It "ran out" on October 2nd,2012. I got the paragard put in cause my husband still hadn't changed him mind about ttc#2. Fast forward to about October 20th and he did :) So I am a month and almost two weeks from the depo running out. I however have already started bleeding. It started when I got my paragard put in and never stopped so I think it was caused by that but today I seem to be having a REAL period. Hopefully yours will come back quick. According to pfitzer (the pharmaceutical company that makes depo) the AVERAGE is 10 months to get pregnant (from the date of last shot not when it wore out). According to them 63% get pregnant within one year from date of last shot. 83% within 15 months of last shot and 93% within 18 months of last shot. The statistics scared me at first but then I remembered that a lot of people who have NO troubles never have it recorded or mention it on boards like these either. So it gives me some hope. I have a friend whose sister got pregnant the second month after her depo wore out :) So there is hope!

Thanks kobes!

Kelly thanks for the reply! Yea I hadn't thought of that as I suppose most people look on The net for answers to their problems and the success stories arnt really heard of. Im trying not to think about it too much as I know the stress won't help me! Miso pleased to hear your periods have returned , fingers crossed for mine too. I am having a lot of cramping today and lower back ache hopefully this is a sign they are on there way.

I started taking Angus castus when I stopped the depo in April this year. My period returned within 7 weeks. I took these tablets for 3 months and then my period became regular. I was pregnant within 6 months but unfortunately miscarried at 7 weeks and I'm now trying again. Don't know if the m/c was anything to do with depo. Good luck

I was on Depo for roughly 7 years and when i came off of it my period came right back and was normal for over a year it has only been since I have been TTC that my period is acting up. GL and :dust: to you all!

hi, i was on cerzette after i had my daughter 4 years ago which stopped my period altoghter but i got bleeds sometimes which would last ridiculous amounts of time so went on to depo me and partner decided to try for another baby my 2nd his first. i was on depo from august 2011 to march 2012 when i didnt go back for the top up, my first period came beginning of september and then just had another last week so although a 2 month gap something must be happening im keeping everything crossed, all in all been trying 8 months but really only 3 months since periods made an appearance

Thanks guys for replying.
It's so frustrating as there are no definite answers, no one can really say what's going to happen or how long it will take n that's the hard part as I could be waiting months or years before falling pregnant. I never expected it to be this hard! Did any if you guys have and withdrawal symptoms from the depo? I'm getting a lot if cramping in my lower stomach, headaches, sore boobs n tingling nipples and now the last couple of days lower back ache an feeling very tired. Is it just to do with my hormones? Depo? Any advice would be great :)

I had that happen when I was ON Depo, I had what they call a Mock pregnancy, my body thought I was pregnant... I went through a full first "trimester", it was brutal and apparently not all that uncommon, and just to be a little more clear, did you get your last shot 3 weeks ago or has it been 3 weeks since you were suppose to go get your shot? if its been 3 weeks since you were suppose to, and you haven't POAS I would suggest doing that, as those symptoms sound like your PG!

GL and :dust:

Thanks lilmonkey. What does poas mean? It's been just over three weeks since my last shot was due and I didn't get it. I very much dought I am pregnant as I hear it takes months for my periods to regulate and I have recent took two preg tests just to check both negative. Although the second had two lines on it as soon as I peed on it but when I looked again after the five mins where up the pregnancy line had disappeared so taking it as a negative.

POAS means pee on a stick or take a test.
With that said thought could have sworn I was pregnant my first month off depo. Severe nausea (still actually have that from time to time), exhaustion, headaches, my aversion too spicy food got worse(happened with my daughter). It was horrible my husband was even convinced and got excited... Then a :bfn: :nope: I knew it probably really wasn't a pregnancy but I felt SO pregnant!

Hi Wilkie.

This is my first post (ever on this website), but I really wanted you to know my experience with Depo. I am 29 and have been on Depo since I was 16. I was on it consistently the entire time except for a 2 year break when I was 21-22 (no insurance). I loved depo, I was the same as you -no side effects other than not ever getting my period. I took my last shot January 2012 so was due to get it again in April 2012 but decided not to as I also had heard it can take a long time to get your body to regulate after the shot. So, technically the shot should have "worn off" April or early May of this year. I did not get my first period until September 19th, but it was a regular 5 day period. 10/4-10/6 I experienced ovulation bleeding, and then on 10/20 I got my anticipated period, again a regular 5 day period. 11/5-11/7 I experienced OB, and now am expecting AF on 11/19. So, it did take me about 5 months to get my period back, but it seems to me as soon as I got it, I'm just back to normal again. I agree with Kelly, all the negative posts you see on the internet are all from women who had horrible experiences while on Depo. Every woman is different and we all react to drugs differently. I think you are going to have to wait a few months for your period, but once it comes I'm sure you're body will be ready for baby making. :flower:

As far as withdrawal symptoms after Depo, my boobs hurt like crazy for about 2 months after coming off it. I kept telling my husband that I swear they felt like they were getting bigger, they just felt swollen all the time. I could barely stand to touch them. It did eventually go away. That was the only symptom I had, but man it hurt.

On a side note, I am supposed to get AF on 11/19, but my husband and I decided we would start TTC at the end of October, and our timing was good with my ovulation occuring on 11/5 so maybe I'll get lucky and she won't show up! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much as we did just start trying a few weeks ago, but you never know.

Sorry this was a bit rambling, but I just want people to know that Depo isn't always bad. GL to you!!

Kitana thanks do much for your reply! It's nice to hear there are some positive stories! I'm almost four weeks now sine I should have had my next jab and desperately hoping my periods will show soon as I only had three jabs. I think the symptoms I am getting are due to comming off depo as today I feel loads better than previous weeks. My boobs don't feel sore I've had no back ache yet today or any camping!
I'm really pleased to hear your periods regulated really quickly gives me hope that mine will too! I've got my fingers crossed for you that this is your month :) would be nice if you could keep me up dated on how you are going?

Yes I'll definitely keep you updated. Keep me updated too, k? I agree, there aren't many positive stories out there about Depo, but my experience was all positive. I absolutely loved it. Yeah it took me a few months to get my period, but I was on it for such a long time I didn't expect my body to just go right back to normal anyway.

I think it is a positive sign that you experienced the withdrawal signs so early and that you are also getting over them so early. I think it means the depo is coming out of your system just fine.

Another thought for you, I also had heard that going on the pill could help to jump start your period. Depo is a progesterone only based BC and the pill is both estrogen and progesterone based. I talked to my doctor and he recommended that I just allow my body to readjust its progesterone level on its own naturally rather than confuse it more but adjusting two hormone levels by taking the pill. Sure maybe the pill can "force" a period, but then your still left with imbalanced hormones that your body has to try to regulate again anyway. ÎDK, but what my doctor said made sense to me (and for me) and I decided that I would wait 6 months and if I still didn't get my period that I would try the pill, but obviously I didn't need to do that. Again, this is just my opinion based off my own experience. :winkwink:

Yes I sure will keep you up dated!
Well I'm trying to get into the doctors to see what they recommend about the pill as someone on here also recommended it, but it's so hard to get an appointment there.
I too think its a good sign as I have now gone a full day with no symptoms :) maybe my body is getting back on track on its own.
I can't really say that I have had a bad experience of depo, Infact I loved it cos only had to remember to go for my jab n had no periods it was great! Just hoping my experience off coming off of it will be just as good! If my periods come back in two to three months I will be happy! Just panicking I will be one if them who it takes years for :(

Hi Wilkie. Just wanted to give you a quick update. So, I actually realized that I miscounted and I should have gotten AF on 11/20. Well, nothing yet. I tested this morning and BFN, but I've been feeling nauseous for a few days. Still trying not to get too excited about it but I've definitely been feeling off and I wonder if maybe I implanted late so my hcg levels aren't high enough to pick up on the test. I'm going to test again tomorrow morning and if still negative, I'll test again sometime this weekend.

How are you doing? Any updates?

Ooo fingers crossed for you!! Let me know how you get on with the next test! :)

Nothing much to report about me really other than my symptoms I had have all disappeared and i feel ok now. Must have just been hormones after stopping depo, still no period tho :( it's just over a month since injection should have wore off but no sign of anything.
I have spoken to my doctor but she just said give it another month if they have t returned go in n see her next month. It's just a waiting game now.

I had my last injection in early June 2012 after 9 years on depo. It "ran out" at the end of August, since then I've had AF 15/10/12 then 2 weeks later I had spotting for a few days the first day of spotting, there was a clot.

I also have had the "think I'm pg symptoms", weight gain (only a few pounds, but all round my stomach which didn't help the "think I'm pg feeling) huge boobs, nipples that have changed dramatically, colour and feel different (like non slip rubber mats LOL). Emotionally I'm a wreck, feel like I'm having a nervous break down, with one minute I'm full of rage the next I'm crying and think the world is against me.

I desperately want my period, just for comfort in knowing that something is happening and I might be able to conceive, I'm 38 and I'm scared that I've left it to late.

Esmeralda thanks for the reply!

It's awfull, the preg like symptoms I were having really played with my head. I didn't know if to be excited or not, didnt want to get my hopes up from all the stories I have been reading and as it turns out it was just my hormones getting back to normal. I'm perfectly fine now.

It seems quite promising for you already having your first af. I'm still waiting on this but it has just been over a month since the injection should have worn off. Coukd be a while for me just waiting this month seems like an eternity god know that I will be like in a year to come if I'm still waiting!

Keep me posted on how you are getting on!

I think that is it though, with the depo we are playing the waiting game. But cause we want something the time does seem drag and there is no same recovery pattern. Which is no help to any of us want to know when it will be our turn for a BFP.

Esmerelda have you taken a pregnancy test yet? When were you due for AF in November?
