Any have experience taking this? Good / bad?
I don't want an epidural so considering this instead!

I had it with my first, it took the edge off the contractions but didn't take it away but I had meds to speed the labor up as I had been in the first stage of labor for a week. It makes you tired and crosses the placenta I think it made my baby dopey and she wouldn't take milk or if she did spit it up. But everyone is different in the reaction to it. X

If I hadn't had my labor sped up I think it would have sorted all the pain out instead of taking edge off the contractions.

I hated it. Didn't make any difference to the pain & just made me all spaced out & sleepy so I kept forgetting to use the gas & air. I won't be getting it this time, I'll hopefully manage with just gas & air.

I had it, however it just made me feel sick and the anti nausea injection they gave me as well didn't work so i ended up not drinking for fear of throwing up and got dehydrated so i won't be having it again when i eventually have another lol.
It did take a little bit of the edge off my contractions so i could sleep as i was exhausted but it took 2 injections of it for that to happen :)

I had it followed by gas and air 10 minutes later as it hadn't had an effect by then. Together they made me completely out of it and I don't remember half my labour because of it! It did take the pain completely away though but I think that was just because I was so spaced out. My labour was very fast, 1 hour 47 mins including 21 mins of pushing, so my son was very dopey and slept mostly for 24 hours after birth. He wouldn't feed etc because it was still in his system and I worried a lot. I'm going to try and avoid it this time and just go for the gas and air. x

I had it with my second, and comparing it with my third, when I just had gas and air, I will be opting for it again this time if I can, defo took the edge off it for me, made me relax more in between and not think about the awful pain that was coming lol.
I did get an anti sick jab with it, so never felt sick, but I can say I enjoyed my 2nd labour, my third was awful lol.

Diamorphine is technically heroin, just by a different name

I have a friend who had it and loved it but her baby's heart rate dropped and she ended up with and episiotomy which took months to recover from. The baby was okay but wasn't breathing when born. I can't help but think that the diamorphine had something to do with it. That was enough to put me off the idea.

I had morphine of some sort prettysure it was diamorphine and my baby wasnt breathing when born and didnt feed for ober 24 hours (not trying to sscare you just so you know what can happen) he was then asleep for 3 days, after it wore off you wouldnt believe it was the same baby!!!! But I could never take this again due to the worry. It just made me out of it but I felt every bit of pain.

I had this, in managed to relax me when I had a bit of a panic attack. I could still feel contractions, not as strong but I knew they were there. The baby was born quite soon after having it, within 3 hours and was still very sleepy when he was born so they had to get the paediatricians in and we had a scary 5 minutes.

Despite this I would take it again as I had quite a good birth with Isaac and I knew he would be ok.

Hated it. Didn't really help the pain, just made me unable to explain myself properly to get something decent!

Will DEF not be having it again! G&A All the way!!

I've had it several times not in labour (gall bladder problems twice and post gynae surgery twice) Although it got rid of pain well, the overall experience each time has not been nice. Either made me incredibly drowsy (a simple day case surgery turned into a 2 day stay until I woke up properly!) or nauseous and very high/out of control. So I won't be having during labour... Also worried about it being given too close to delivery and having an effect in baby's breathing when he's born
:flower:

I wrote in my birth plan I didn't want it but actually ended up taking it twice during three days of horrendous contractions and loved it. Managed to get some much-needed sleep. Had it quite a while before active labour so baby was fine, don't know if it would've been different had I taken it closer to delivery.
