Did anyone have to have a smear test?

My doc said to me when I asked for one seeing as ive had some problems and im in a high risk group that if your under 25 they just send the stuff straight back without evan testing as if your under 25. Please could you let me know if your doc does give you one as i might get a second opinion if they do test under 25s. xx

I didn't want one but had abnormal cells and now need smears every 6 months due to moderate cell change which had to be removed I was 19, just turned 20 a few months after and I too had my jabs. It's not pleasant but it's not that bad.

The age is 20 (or at least it is here in NZ). You can choose to have one about three months after you've had your baby though - it's your right to refuse it but I would definitely recommend having it once you have had your bubs.

I work at the hospital regarding abnormal smears and cervical and uterine cancers so I can tell you first hand it is very important to have regular (well, three yearly) smears

I never had one, i can relate though as the thought of anybody putting anything up there (besides sex) is quite a grueling thought after being induced/labour etc.. i had a back to back labour steel bar through stomach/back etc and i'd prefer that to how she was when she checked for dilation! grrrrr.

I'm assuming a smear test is the same thing as a pap smear, right? Sorry if I sound dumb, but I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing. lol

Anyway, if it's the same thing, then I've had quite a few done. I had one before I was supposed to go on birth control (but I got pregnant with Aiden before I could start taking them ), I had one at my first OB appointment with each pregnancy, another at each of my 6 week postpartum checks, and then I think there was another in there somewhere, since it's recommended you get one yearly after you start having sex. And I think they say you're supposed to have one once you turn 18 even if you don't have sex. I'm not entirely sure, though, since I never made it that far. And I think when they do the pap smear, they also do STD testing.

I guess it's really different in the US.

For me, to get it done it was never really that bad. Uncomfortable, yes, but it wasn't painful. My doctor was funny, though, since he apologized to me the whole time (every time).

I had one at 12 weeks pregnant and my yearly one this past July.

To this day I have only ever had the one test they do when your pregnant for both kids I have never had a 6 week pp either I'm only 2 year behind on my one and 6 months on my other my doctor doesn't do them because I refuse to let her do any tests on me as she is friends with my mother

Never been offered one. If I was I'd take the chance though. Everyone I know that's had one has said it's fine and over quick and also not like an internal. If you're feeling sore though still you should explain that before,

never had one! i rang to make an appointment and the nurse snapped my head of and very patronising told me i didnt need one till i was 20. im booking someone else soon. my mums a nurse nd thinks they should be offered much much younger

I can't have one until I'm 25 which personally I think is way to late to only just have your first smear test, they need to lower the age, yeah they say it's because were in the lower percentage of getting it but catching it in the early stages could potentially save a life wether it be 1 life its worth it.

It's 25 regardless here :/ So stoooopid!
