Differences: US vs UK

Is our portion size really that bad? I need to go to another country at check this out. I mean, if you watch TV they'll show you the biggest, most obscene sizes of food ever..but I didn't think we were THAT bad..

but we are pretty fat here .. so maybe so.

I wouldn't think your portion sizes are that big across the whole country, but the ones on that show are huuuuge!

I would love the chance to eat one of the things on that show. It looks so yummy lol!!

Oh yeah.. there is one show here called Man vs. Food........ that the dude goes into places that have such huge food servings that if they have contests at the restaurants. A lot of times if you can eat all of the food in one serving it is free, or they'll put your name and picture on their restaurant wall. Just gluttonous amounts of food.

I don't know how this guy isn't like 600 pounds.

That show is amazing!! I love it :D

Brits are just as bad though, there's a show called supersize vs superskinny. Basically an overweight person and an underweight person swap diets for a week to make them realise how much they're overeating/under eating. There was a show on last night and for the first meal swap the poor underweight person was given FOUR plates of takeaway!!!

^^ I wondered what that show was. I've seen a few threads talking about it on here. And talking about filling up a tube?

Here's a question. What size are the standard plates over there? Here it is like 12" I think, so that is part of the reason we have such huge portions because we always fill our plates full. But I've read that other countries have smaller plates which helps them with eating smaller portions.

I think they eat several small meals too.. and more slowly as well.

I have had to do the multiple meal thing and I struggled with it.. I felt like all I did was eat... and now, even though I have GD and should do it, I can't.

Yeah they have this long tube that they drop whatever food the person has eaten that week into. The underweight ones will only fill a tiny amount, the overweight ones will fill at least half (floor to ceiling tube mind!)

I just measured one of my dinner plates and it's 10.5 inches. I think that's about average here.

That show is amazing!! I love it :D

This is the show, I'm not sure if you can watch it. The top one is the one with the 4 plates of takeaway x

well re food sizes. The maximum size you can get coke here in the shops is 1.5 liter. and and the max size of coke you can get at mc Donalds is 0.5 liter. (17 fl oz) (small size being 0.3 liters 10 fl. oz)
https://www.myfitnesspal.com/nutrition-facts-calories/mcdonalds-germany
heres other stuff from mc d in germany

You also don't get supersize menues.

Butter comes in 250 g only, and margarine also comes in about that size.
juices are mostly in cartons and come in 1l (34 floz) sizes. 0.7l and 0.5 are also common.
soft drinks come in sizes 1.5l, 1.0, 0.5, and 0.33 (0.33 in cans or bottles)
Milk comes in tetra paks too and is regularly in 1l or 0.5 liters.
cream cheeses and similar come in 175 g boxes.

Won't let me watch it on their website, but I was able to see this show in increments on youtube. Very interesting show. The one girl I saw was 280 and pretty short I think, and she said she was only eating 3000 calories a day.. and there was just no way, though some of her serving sizes were crazy!

We don't have supersize menus either anymore in the states. They stopped doing those a few years ago. :D

I think we have supersize menus... or at least really big portions anyway!!

Yeah theres a difference :haha: supersize were 3 times bigger than big size I have heard. I have also heard that the fries in mc do are a lot less in Germany than in the US.
I don't know if this is still the case but a couple of years back a friend of mine in the US had a flat-rate on dial up internet :rofl:You wouldnt get a flat rate here for dial up. flat rate is only on broad band , and thats what made broadband popular.

Recently I also lol'ed at an old thread in a different forum, and the thread from 5 years ago was about internet speed xD. back when 125 kbits/s were fast :haha:

wow 1.5 is the biggest bottle of soda there? thats so litte compaired to here, we have up to 3 L of the cheaper brands of soda like shasta. some of the drinks at fast food places are different from one another as far as size. the biggest drink at mc donalds is about the size of a medium at del taco or carls jr. and the small size at jack in the box, carls and del taco is the medium at mc donalds. so you never know how big your drink or fries are going to be unless u have been there before.

ive noticed our carseats are differnt to most i have seen for in the UK are 3 point harness and ours r 5 and have the cover over the top and fit into the stroller turning it into the travel system rather then the prams

We have supersize here but our supersize compared to the States's version is teeny lol. I saw it on some site once and our supersize is like an American large meal  The drink sizes over there for large are HUGE, btw!

its only infant carriers that are 3 point. Most others are 5 point.

I'm from Dundee in Scotland and now live in Angus (about 15 miles away from Dundee) and they talk totally differently here. this website has sound clips of people speaking Scots from the different areas of Scotland and I can understand the Dundee one just fine, but really struggle to understand the Angus one

i dont really understand the angus one either. I think its cos hes using a lot of slang. I can understand all the others though.

I dont know if anyone said this,
But i've noticed a difference in name calling.
No one in the US really uses 'cow' especially not so liberally.
Especially a 'silly cow.' Lol!
If someone called me that I would be offended, but seems as though it can be an endearment as well.

hm, cow isn't a term of endearment! It generally follows the words stupid and fat LOL
