Differences: US vs UK

Another thing, not sure if this is limited to where I live but instead of saying 'for dessert' I say 'for afters' :flower:

wow 1.5 is the biggest bottle of soda there? thats so litte compaired to here, we have up to 3 L of the cheaper brands of soda like shasta. some of the drinks at fast food places are different from one another as far as size. the biggest drink at mc donalds is about the size of a medium at del taco or carls jr. and the small size at jack in the box, carls and del taco is the medium at mc donalds. so you never know how big your drink or fries are going to be unless u have been there before.

ive noticed our carseats are differnt to most i have seen for in the UK are 3 point harness and ours r 5 and have the cover over the top and fit into the stroller turning it into the travel system rather then the prams
You can get beer however in 20l barrels (for parties) and boxes fit up to 24 bottles(different sizes) and everybody is free to buy their beer and to consume their beer every where they would like to.

Our fridges aren't that big here you would never fit a 3l bottle in the fridge xD The good thing about smaller bottles is that they are easier to handle (one-handed) and the drink stays fresh longer.

RE the mcdonalds thing, yes the US is really that much bigger.

The UK large drink its 500ml, the US large drink is 946ml so almost double >.> Your small is closer to our large at 473ml I believe.

Seriously?! WOW!!

Funny measures are they even in floz? Here they are 0.5 l and 0.3 (small) nearly a whole liter of coke thats a helluva lot coke :haha:

yeh their small is 16oz which is 473ml apparently.

i have no idea how someone can sit and drink an entire litre of juice  I'd feel terrible if I drank all that.

A lot of people here don't know the metric system all that well. I know about ML and OZ because I was a Pharmacy Technician and that is how we measure medicine, but it's Greek to a great many people here.

yeah, same as the UK :)!

I think it is funny how they tried to introduce metric in the UK. It was successful in Australia and the rest down under but the UK ? Never

Even the German pound is metric :haha: it is exactly 500g or half a kg.
(and there are some ancient not used ones too like the decagramm (ten gramms I think. )
We also have zentner which is 100 (german pound) aka 50 kg.
the only hexadecimal value we have here is the dozen(dutzend) but only for pieces not for weights. (it comes from the french for 12= douze as far as I know(or from the latin over the french)

to be fair the UK uses both. I use lbs and ozs or grams in baking  same with cms and inches.

This is a funny thread, just wish I had the time to read all of it.

I was in New York a couple of years ago and asked for a tuna melt - the woman in the shop actually corrected me and said " tooona melt " :haha: Also, you have to tip for everything over there. Our first morning we went out to breakfast and the waitress even told us where to leave our tip - she hadn't even served us anything at the time

Also, wetting the babies head was invented by dads as an excuse to go out on the lash.

1 i see a lot is
purse to us is what we put money in but in the US purse is a bag & i think they use wallet for putting money in

oh yes we do tip alot here because most of the nicer food places they only make min wage then rely on tips for the rest of there money. also when you go to get your hair cut or nails done most people tip and for a cab your supposed to tip as well. same thing with going to the bar, you usually tip with every drink rather its at a regular bar or in a casino. most of the time if you give the waitress more of a tip in the casino you get a stronger drink. the vegas strip is the only place i know of where you can have your drink outside but if you appear drunk then its being drunk in public...it makes no since to me at all...there are sooooo many rules and different rules in the states and they say its a free country there is no way thats true anymore. each state has its own laws so if you travel and dont know the laws to the state your going to it can be confusing

Here a tip is about 10 percent, but the waitrons don't need to rely on it because they get more wage here.

Here , we have different kind of wurst/wors on our grill as well as beef or pork or chicken slabs , or ribs or steaks or prawns and fish. (or even fish , jacket potatoes and different veg). and for side dish we have lots of different salads (noodle salad, potatoe salad green salad all kidns of other) and baguette or pita bread with herb/garlic or cheese butter on it :). and lots of sauces :D.(Barbecue sauce, curry sauce, tomato sauce , yoghurt sauce ...)
and we do often have quite small grills or at a communal even they are big grills ^^
charcoal is most popular but there are also gas (not gasoline)or electric ones .

In London tips get added onto your bill - you've got no bloody choice but to tip! :growlmad:

I kinda wish they'd do that here. Tip here is 15%, but they get paid a ridiculously low amount of money to wait on tables here. The only time I have seen it added is it the bill is huge.. but that depends on the place and isn't consistent.

Here waiters get a decent pay, well decent enough to survive at least goes from 1500 to 2800 .

I tip when I feel the service/food has been good. I don't want it to be an automatic thing. I had an awful meal in London and I still had to pay the tip!
