Question for girls making coloured bath salts:
what colourant are you using?

Im doing some orange and I think some yellow. I have sweet orange essential oils and yellow and orange food colouring. Im going to spend sometime sunday on my bits in the afternoon doing them so will photograph when done, I got some lovely coloured jars to put them in and will add a nice bow with some ribbon

I have all the bits and ordered some powdered colour but not sure how the powder will turn out in salt... :dohh:

Personally I have been told food colouring works easier as you just add a few drops and mix up, plus the less you add the lightter the colour, the more you add the darker so you can really play with the shades aswel. Im going to give the knee high socks a miss, thank you anyways. I bought 4pairs today in the 99p shop and cost £1.98 and that means I can also get started tonight.

What do you use to stuff the sock monkey and do you buy eyes to put on or what do you use?

I was scared of food colouring staining the bath or skin.
No probs with the socks.
I used toy stuffing to fill them and stitched eyes on rather than adding buttons or toy eyes etc coz I made mine when Abbie was tiny.

Im not doing mine in the bath, im buying a cheap washing up bowl from 99p shop, so if it stains wont matter but to be honest I use food colouring a lot when making cakes and after a good scrub it does come off your hands.

I suspect tiggertea meant when the recipient puts it in the bath :D. I would have thought the bath water would have been more than sufficient to dilute the colouring though. Certainly shop bought stuff I have had that colours the water has never stained me or the bath. I draw the line at glitter though - I used a glitter bath bomb once, never again. I was vajazzled for weeks before vajazzling was heard of.

Ahhh, its too hot to think at times lol! Just bought some tissue paper and some shredded stuff aswell to put in bottom of my hamper boxes. So Im going to put one together later and see how it looks, can't wait soooo exciting

A bit OT but your post about spooky soup has just reminded me of something that made me  I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it earlier but someone had done up bags of mini-mallows and called them "Ghost Poop" :haha:

oooh i saw something about them on MSE
they had

Snowman poop (marshmellows)
Reindeer poop ( choc raisins)

What do you put with the snowman soup? Just a mug or something? Or just as it is? I may make this for the guys I work for at work.

Last year they all got this

Actually I have just discovered pots of gold on MSE - I think I'll do them for the guys at work and save the snowman soup for hampers with the muffin mix, etc.

Has anyone done pots of gold? As I understand it you get a cheap pot and fill it with gold covered chocolate or sweets (like chocolate coins) and tuck a scratch card inside.

Love the soups :thumbup: Linzi fab link thank you!

I made the most amazing fudge yesterday. It was my first attempt and I didn't have a sugar thermometer, and it turned out so well I have to share the recipe.

Crumbly sea salt and vanilla fudge

400g (1lb) brown sugar
50g caster sugar
85g (3oz) salted butter
150ml (¼ pt) milk
175g (6oz) evaporated milk
Few drops of vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon of fine sea salt
A little vegetable oil

Tip the sugar, butter, milk and evaporated milk into a heavy based pan and heat gently, stirring frequently, until the sugar has dissolved. Takes about 5 mins, just keep stirring until you can't feel the sugar grains.

Then bring to the boil stirring as little as you can, and continue boiling until a temperature of 116°C (240°F) is reached on a sugar thermometer. If you don't have one of these, you can test if the fudge is at this temperature by spooning a small amount of the syrup into some iced water, it should form a soft ball. Have attached a picture of what this looks like. It took much longer than I thought, and was bubbling away for about 20 minutes before it reached the soft ball stage.

Take off the heat, and once it has stopped bubbling carefully beat the mixture with a wooden spoon for about 3 mins, until it has thickened and lost its gloss. Beat the vanilla and sea salt into the mix.

Pour into a shallow dish, greased with a little oil or butter. I used a shallow glass pyrex dish, but you can use a tin.

Leave to cool for at least 30 mins, probably more. I cut mine into long bars using a pizza cutter and then snapped into rough blocks. Remember this is crumbly fudge and not soft and squidgy.

It is quite honestly the loveliest fudge ever, it's crumbly, creamy, melts in the mouth and is very moreish.
