Do unborn babies have growth spurts?

Just been to see the midwife for my 31week appointment and she has said that I might have to have another glucose test as baby is measuring in excess of my dates. (he measured 31 at my 28week appointment and 36 today at my 31week appointment)

I have a growth scan in 3 weeks time which I would assume is when they would decide if I need another glucose test - she just said be prepared, otherwise they are happy with everything, he's moving lots, hb is fine and seems happy...

So I was wondering could he have just had a growth spurt these last 3 weeks and maybe not grow so much over the next 3 weeks so it all kinda levels out or do they grow at the same rate all the way through? I'm now worried I'm going to have a big baby!

i have heard they can...from 32 weeks they r like newborns apparently...they can have growth spurts and then periods where they dont grow as much...? but i fink most people's LOs grow gradually...but growth spurts r not uncommon as i have heard it mentioned a few times before...

I remember being told by consultant that they have big growth spurt around 30 weeks x

I would assume they do too. Hoping your baby doesn't get TOO big then! personally I quite like the thought of having a big weight baby, a nice 10 pounder lol! must be mad I know! x

they do have growth spurts, however i imagine it's because you've measured ahead on two occasions that they're considering the GTT. you could always catch up though.

i measured smaller at two appointments (grew 2cm in 3weeks, then 1cm in 3weeks) so had a scan - turns out baby is actually huge and they couldn't tell me why my fundal height isn't changing as it should. i have no faith in those measurements now! hope all is well xx

do u have wide hips by any chance?...i personally think that affects fundal height, as baby has a lot more room...im nearly 37 weeks...n i fink my baby can stil do a somersault..LOL xx

ha, i know what you mean! i do have wide hips, also been told that because i'm quite tall it could be why the measurement is off. consultant and midwife were both very quick to tell me that they're unreliable measurements and nothing to worry about - so not sure why they bother to do them! x

They already did a GTT test and my score was about 4.7 - well below the 7.6 you need to get to have gestational diabetes. I'm overweight anyway and the first time I was measured at 25 week I was measured by a trainee and she thought the baby was higher up than he was (and therefore bigger) till my midwife corrected her. The midwife who has done the last two measurements isnt a trainee so I would assume she knows what she is doing, but im wondering if she was feeling too high for bubs too. Will have to see what shows up on the scan in 3 weeks. hope LO is ok!

i was wondering that as well. if they will even out and not grow so much if they are measuring big. hmmmmm
