i do know that you count your pregnancy from the first day of your last period so mine was on the 1st of august which makes me 8 weeks on monday, but i am curious ....you know the was you read up on babies weekly development do they go by the 1stday of your last period also or do you count from when you actually concieved which would usually be two weeks after your period?

I've never counted by my last period, or really even by the date that I know I conceived. I normally wait until my first ultrasound and count based off of that. I suppose though, that if I didn't get early ultrasounds, I'd count by my lmp based on the fact that if you count from that you actually get 40 weeks, but if you count based on conception it only works out to 38 weeks.

They use that as a estimate, so they can calculate your estimated due date (EDD) from the first day of you last monthly period (LMP) so in your case, your current gestational age is 7weeks, 3days.... and your EDD is 7th may 2012. Its a guideline for your pregnancy, so they know when about to scan, but the scan will measure your baby and give a more exact due date, and will tell you more precisely how far along you are. Congratulations in your pregnancy and wish you a happy and healthy 9months! xxx

The go by LMP in development, but if you look at the development when the start from week one, (this is before you have ovulated or every concieved for that matter) its just and egg, week 2, a sperm is penetrating the egg (conception), week 3 is implantation, so it shows the cells spliing out the eggs protective layer and burying into you womb lining, week 4, a possitive pregnancy test, week 5, a little blob that is just starting to develop and so on... sorry i didnt answer your question properly first time round, i hope iv answered it properly this time around xx

The standard dating is from your last period. if you take 14 days off this on average, that gives you the "true age" of the baby from conception. But in most baby books and websites, they do stick with the standard dating from LMP to avoid confusion.

I am always calculated by my LMP. When I would go for my ultasounds, the baby always measured spot on. But every women is different.

i always count from my LMP until i have 12 wk scan and they give me a proper EDD xx

just noticed I'm exactly the same date as you! :) x

I've seen on some websites where you read about your baby's development and it says "6 weeks or 4 weeks gestation"

So its 6 weeks since LMP and 4 weeks since you conceive.. but that's according to the "average normal cycle" Some women have longer/shorter cycles...

hope this helps...

Hello,

I had an early scan due to a few complications and lost 2 weeks!!!

I was reading info for women who are 8 weeks pregnant and I was 6 weeks and a day.

This mean I must have ovulated on day 25!!

The 1st day of my last period is 13th July which makes me 10 weeks but baby should measure 8 + 3 now!

In short... you'll know for sure after the scan.

Good luck! x x x x

In most books and websites, they go by LMP for dating (which would be the standard 2 weeks later conception).
