Then everyone should take their own food and all drinks to hospital Maisiemoo!
I wonder is the issue here really about saving money for the NHS or is it about formula?
As no one seems to be opposed to the idea of everyone else recieving meals in hospital?
Makes no sense to me...
Funnily enough, I used to take my own sleeping bag (as advised to) when my daughter spent time in the childrens ward.
In my mind, if you can take your own nappies, wipes etc then you can take your own formula (if that's how you planned to feed your baby). It's totally different if something happens and formula becomes a need. To just take it just because it's there is wrong in my opinion. The money can be put to a better use.

Makes no sense to me...unless this IS a FF v's BF debate after all....

Nestle provided free formula milk at hospitals in Africa. Great?
- The mothers did not even try to bf.
- After they got released from the hospital, they had to pay for the for the formula (which probably was the intention to begin with).
- Very often, the mothers could not afford the expensive formula milk, and they could not get back to bf.
- So, they fed less formula than the babies needed which led to malnutrition in many cases.
Besides that, I still think that no formula milk will ever be better or as good as breastfeeding. The milk of a mother changes its ingredients when the child is sick, or starts to crawl, there are even differences between the milk you bf in the morning and at night.
So basically, I find that hospitals should rather encourage women to bf than provide free formula milk. I don't care really if they would give it to the mothers for free in case they chose to not bf, or didn't even start to bf. What I guess would be important to consider is, that women who bf should not end up being the ones with the disadvantages when they need a breast pump or something.
It shouldnt make any flaming difference!!!!!! its a food for a BABY ... not the mother...
i never heard of the nestle debate, must search for it, something to read while im relaxing in the garden.
i thought this was a ff v bf thread. i made a bet with myself that if i refresh the page every hr and it has moved up 2 or more pages, i would pay myself 2euro. so already im up almost 10euro except i dont have money to pay myself.
