Does AF = ovulating?

Hi all,

here I am TTC #6 and totally clueless!

Can you get AF but not ovulate? I thought one of the signs
that you were ovulating was the arrival of good old AF?

This is the first time I've ever had trouble getting PG, so it's
not something I've had to think about before now.

I've been using the internet cheapie OV tests and so far it's
CD16 and all negative (been testing since CD6). No other signs
of ovulation either. Temp has been low the whole time. Pink
tinged cervical fluid this morning but could have been from
BDing with DH (sorry if TMI).

Either the tests are rubbish, I'm ovulating later in this cycle
than I thought I would, or I'm not ovulating at all.

Sooooo confusing!

Hi there FQ and welcome to B&B

I'm afraid even the most regular of AF doesn't guarantee that you are ovulating.
OPKs will tell you when your body is gearing up to ovulate
but only temping (or a 21day progesterone test) will tell you if you've actually O'd

Nope, sadly getting your period does not mean you are ovulating.
I have been chrting for a few months so far, had periods, although irregular cycle lengths (24-47 days), but only had clear ovulation once.
however, it is normal, although frustrating to have one or two anovulatory cycles each year, you may have just caught one of those.
unless anything has drastically changed in your lifestyle/medications/birth control, with 5 children chances are you are still ovulating.

Well the good news is that I have had 2 positive OPKs today, one at
3pm and one at 7pm. I'm on CD18 so a long cycle this time. I'm having
period like cramps that I've never noticed when ovulating before
(probably because I'm charting? Could be.)

I'll try and post a pic of my results in the OPK gallery, if I can
figure out how to do it!

My gp suggests that if your cycle is regular and consistent each month it is a good indicator of ov.

Thanks Crypto. I have no idea if this is regular for
me or not. It's my first month charting (properly
at least).

OPK was still + this morning and MaybeBaby showed
all over ferning, so time will tell.
