Does anyone have experience with donors?

I hope this is okay. I've recently started looking into sperm donors through a private route rather than clinic, but I find the whole thing quite intimidating as I'm sure this can sometimes be maybe a bit of a risky route. Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm not sure where to look that is really trustworthy, and meeting other people who may have done this themselves would be wonderful!
