Does it hurt when your waters break?

As the title says really. Do you get any pain before it happens? Does it hurt when they go? Or do you feel nothing just loads of fluid pouring out?

Doesn't hurt at all. It's a bit like you've peed yourself. A lot.

No doesnt hurt, it feels like an egg breaking lol!! but not everyones go the same, must of my friends had to either have their waters broke or just they broke but didnt gush just leaked iykwim, mine gushed

I had read that the actual 'waters breaking' doesn't hurt but your contractions become much stronger and more painful... This really applies to when you have them broken artificially (which happens quite a lot). As a consequence, I kept refusing to have mine broken first time round... I was terrified... it hurt enough already!! In fact, when I finally gave in, it was a HUGE relief... I'd been harbouring a lot of fluids and felt a lot more comfortable with them gone!

We had a comedy moment because they broke in the middle of the night as I was coming back from my gazillionth trip too the loo, and OH was slipping over our laminate floor trying to find his contact lenses. Yuck.

No, your waters breaking don't hurt but for most people their contraction start soon after and thats the painful part.

When i got to hospital i had to have my hind waters artificially broken, and you know what, it felt really nice, such a relief

So you didn't experience any pains before it happened? Just felt fine?

my water broke at home on due date. It didnt hurt at all, I was getting ready to go to the hospital & was putting some wakeup when all of a sudden water started to come out, it's was like a shower. It didnt help in starting contractions or labour. Good luck hun xx

I had about 3 or 4 strong contractions, and with the following one, my waters literally 'popped' in bed, I got out of bed and stood up and water gushed everywhere. The contractions started at midnight-ish and my waters had broken by 12.30, I knew it was going to happen, my body was just sort of 'pushing' them out !

So I did have a warning, so I suppose I was lucky!

My sisters broke just as she arrived at hospital with one big gush, only thing was the automatic doors had gotten stuck and she was banging on them trying to get the night porters attention and just as he looked round her waters went everywhere....full panic ensued for the porter lol!!!!
