I have never given much though to Dubai. What was once desert land suddenly became the most expensive destination on the planet. Built upon its oil stores, employs migrant workers for a pittance.

Would you go there?

After reading what I have read about their conditions of work, given how much profit is being made by the developers etc, i would never go to dubai. There are some extravagant things there including the palm tree islands and the sand isle's. But i'll never support something like that, not now i know who is building those things! Slave labour is so wrong.

Nope, it is one place I have absolutely no desire to go to and thankfully neither does OH.

I think it seems quite a vulgar place if that makes sense. One of my best friends loves it, she would go every month if she could.....

xxx

I'd love to go, my brother went and said it was amazing :)

I think I would like to go, just to see what all the fuss was about.

Never going to happen mind you, but I can dream.

I went for 2 weeks a few years ago and had the best time ever!

I went two years ago and it was amazing! I made sure i seen a mix of both old Dubai and new Dubai

i agree with pops, it just looks tacky, like a magpie's nest..... xx

my mum, dad and sister went last year for my dad's 60th. they stopped off there after the maldives (we're not rich, they just pushed the boat out a hell of a lot!) they loved it, i'd love to go and see what its like, but its never ever gona happen!! i think they wish they'd had more time there, there was so much to see and stuff!

my in-laws went to the Burj Al Arab a few years ago, and tbh it is really somewhere that appeals to us. it looks an amazing country and i would love it go and see it.

with regards to the working conditions i think its disgusting, but i don't think its only Dubai. we have been to quite a few countries where i would imagine there working conditions aren't particularly good, the dominican republic and cuba automatically spring to mind. i do wonder though if us travelling to these sorts of countries fuels it or helps them! i would hope to say it boasts there economy, but it certainly seems like the rich get richer and the poor get poorer x

I only want to go and nose at that massive 7 star hotel!!

that would be the Burj Al Arab - its amazing bexy!! you get your own butler and it has all the amazing designer shops at the bottom and they send up the clothes for you to try!!!

in all honesty it aint that bad in dubai!
my uncle worked n lived there for yrs he an architech n worked on burj al arab and the burj dubai (tallest building in the world) n lets just say the workers on that project r being paid well!
it depends who u contracted by i was considerin going to work there in my field n it worked out i was goin to be on £8.90 an her before commission on sales and then sum with bonus's and so forth n that was wen i was 18 and in experienced!
its a beautiful place and well worth a visit yes pricey in sum areas but ppl dnt look hard enuf!
not all bits are that bad price wise n the flights r cheap enuf too!

I was born and raised in Dubai.

I adore it, and it's 'home' to me. I think that there is a lot to the UAE, not just Dubai and if people are tempted to go out there then there is so much more available than the city. However, the city isn't just about flashy tourist attractions, there are other things such as:

A trip down the gold souk:

And loads more. It;s not a huge tacky city that a lot of people make it out to be. There is so much culture there, and for a middle eastern country it is very friendly to Westeners.

I'd go back and live there in a heartbeat. I miss it so, so much.

Isn't there an underwater restaurant in that hotel?? Bet it costs an effing fortune!

You have to pay just to look inside the hotel ;)

Hmm in that case I'll postpone my Dubai trip till I win the lottery!

Argh I want to go back now. Feeling 'homesick'.

i was completely  when i heard the prices!!!! lets just say i could have brought two new cars!!!!!

If you were to go this month, a room would set you back £1,500 per night for a deluxe room or £5,500 a night for a three bedroom suite. :)
