Are any of you ladies out there finding it hard to eat a varied diet? such as a healthy breakfast, fruits, bread, veg all the things you should be eating while pregnant. Some days i only get maybe one apple or something in there during meal times etc, My normal daily diet consists mainly of:

Museli for breakfast

ham salad sandwich for lunch with a yogurt

then my tea witch varies each evening

Im also snacking through out the day but sometimes i don't even snack! When i do it could be just a quick cereal bar or maybe a packet of snack a jacks or a yogurt. Does this sound to you ladies like i should be eating a little more through out the day ? I want to make sure my baby is getting plenty of different foods in there.

Thanks girls :flower:

They say you dont need any extra until the 3rd trimester, when you only
need about 200 calories extra, which is the equivilent to about 2 digestive
biscuits ect.
Id say as long as you are getting some vitamins/minerals and the main bulk
of your diet is healthy as it sounds like it is, then you should be fine.

If your worried, think about taking a pregnancy vitamin like pregnacare. x

Personally I would try eating a bit more fruit and veg, if you really don't fancy it his about making a big fruit smoothie each day to have with your breakfast?

mumtobeplus1 - Thanks i never thaught about taking any vitamins :) I will go have a look at some this week!

SBB - That's a fab idea, although i don't mind eating fruit but a fruit smoothie sounds tempting :D

Yes - I am so tired in the evening I find it really hard to cook decent healthy meals. I am trying to eat as well as possible, still take pregnacare and hoping my energy will come back at some point!

REALLY...oh my..I am so strict about taking my pregnancare vitamin...I just would have never thought of being pregnant without taking it..even just for the folic acid and extra vits..because I know there is NOWAY..I would ever get 5 fruit and veggies in a day..haha ...
I even take a calcium tablet because I cant get 4 serv of dairy in either..
but then again I have always been a health freak about watching what I eat..
I think it also matters on your BMI and how much fat you have on you..
I say this because I only eat about 1,000 calories a day on a normal basis..and the midwife thought something was wrong with me..like I was starviing myself..but I am not..the doctor said I do not need to add any foods in at my 3rd trimester because I am still a little overweight...and that baby will take my fat..
But I must admit that since I have been pregnant ...I am more hungry as of the last two week!

So I suggest that if you cant get the food in then take a vitamin specifically made for pregnancy..which I suggest to do anyway..

mostly focus on getting more green veggies, protein and calcium!

oh...I forgot to mention...a smoothing is such a great idea...you can get so much in just 1 glass, (2 serves of dairy and 3 servings of fruit)

I'm struggling too as I've still got massive food aversion and often feel sick! I have a innocent smoothie in the morning... I do take calcium supplements as i'm lactose intolerant but my stepsister had such bad MS with both children she had to be hospitalised and couldn't hold anything down...she had two healthy children!

My mum always says, just eat what you can manage... I'm going with that!

To be honest eating anything at all is a big thing for me and has been all the way through pregnancy. I know I should probably be eating more healthily but when it all comes back up most of the time I just eat whatever I can.

I have lost 2 and a half stone since getting pregnant through a combination of morning sickness and not being able to eat as much. Haricot looked fine on both my scans so I know she is getting what she needs from my fat reserves lol!

On my better days though I do try and get some fruit and calcium down me.

Also i see where you are coming from about the calorie intake, I dont think i even have 1000 calories sometimes, Ino for sure i didn't have 1000 calories a day before i fell pregnant, oh gosh i have some serious thinking to do on my diet hehe! Thank you for this :D xx

i'll dive in with some suggestions as i've got a couple of big food allergies etc which mean i have to watch my diet like a hawk!

try porridge for breakfast (alternate it with the museli) - i add raisins or chopped banana to mine. its filling and really sets you up for the day. a smoothie/glass of fruit juice alongside this would be a great idea.

try having a salad for lunch instead of a sandwich and another piece of fruit

calcium-rich foods include broccoli, almonds, kale, sesame seeds, chickpeas (so houmous is a great all rounder here!), potatoes, watercress (lovely in salads), brazil nuts, figs, soy beans....for example, you could add chopped almonds to your cereal in the morning, have watercress and houmous as part of your lunch and some broccoli and potatoe with your evening meal. snaking on dried fruit such as figs will help in this respect too.

hope this helps - btw i was 8 stone at 12 wks after losing 1/2 stone with terrible ms. i am 5ft 5" and at 25wks am up to 9 1/2 stone. you don't want to overeat but getting enough calories is important! x
