Hi, any ladies on here due to have an ECV or already had one for a baby in transverse or oblique position?
I'm 37 weeks today & having a consultation about ECV next Wednesday, if I can get some feedback positive or negative that would be great!
Thanks

Hi, no experience of this myself, but a friend had a baby who was very unstable but tended to revert to transverse / oblique lie. Unfortunately her story is not very positive in that she ended up with a c-section at 38 weeks after 1 ECV where baby turned back, then two more where they had wanted to turn baby, break waters and induce but were unable to get to the waters. It sounds like they will try all they can to avoid a section, though, if that is what you want. Good luck with it, I think the uncertainty is the worst part, fingers crossed for you that all goes well xxx

I just recently had my ecv but it didn't work to turn my breech baby. My baby is mostly in breech position, facing my back. Sometimes, he is transverse. Anyway, the dr tried 3 times, with a 10 minutes break in between each to let baby settle and so not to risk any fetal distress. Dr would turn baby heads down but once let go, baby quickly flipped back to original position. Very stubborn one I have. So I'm booked for a section in days to come. I hope yours work though so you can have your vaginal birth. Go in thinking positive but if doesn't work, don't feel too bad. Sometimes we just can't control how baby wants to be positioned. And I have one that apparently loves to be breech!

Thanks ladies, I'm off for my consultation tomorrow so we'll see the outcome of that, I don't think they'll attempt the ECV tomorrow but just discuss. I would be happy if they could try but have a feeling baby will flip back anyway :(

Good luck Donna! My consult is Friday. I'd love to hear how yours goes. Are you doing an ultrasound first?

Here's a really good summary of the studies on ECV and the risks: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/what...ernal-cephalic-version-to-turn-a-breech-baby/

Donna, you never know. It may work. Go in thinking positive. But also be prepared mentally/emotionally for whatever outcome it may be (vaginal or section). Either way, and I tell myself this as I am still somewhat grieving a section, we get baby no matter which way they come.

Good luck to you both, Donna and Jaimie.

thanks so much alchemist! i really appreciate your positive words - i'm very sorry to hear the ECV didn't work for you. Was it uncomfortable? sounds like your doc really tried his best. when is your section scheduled?

Np, I know how you feel. Yes, my doctor tried his very best. He even brought in a second physician to help him keep baby stable while he tried to move baby from the head. It IS uncomfortable but tolerable - but I have a very high pain tolerance. It didn't hurt until that second physician put his pressure at the base of baby. It shouldn't hurt actually. Just lots of pressure. If you're gassy, it MIGHT hurt.

Are you having it done, Jaimie?

Donna - have you had yours yet? Or was it just consultation?

I had an ECV with my first pregnancy. Doctor turned baby with one big push and stayed she head down until I was induced 3 weeks later. I was really happy to be able to deliver vaginally!!

It did hurt a bit, but was over with really quickly. Baby was monitored both before and after. And seemed happy.

I have a consultation on Friday to schedule an ECV to turn my breech baby. He has been breech since 26 weeks and I've done everything I can to try to turn him, Accupuncture, inversions, ball bouncing, breech tilts and chiropractic, but he is VERY stubborn, so this is my last chance, or it's a c section at 39 weeks.

Sweetdot - good luck! Hope it works for you. I did all of that too but my bubs is loving his breech way so, c/s for me.

Your mw won't deliver breech?

I agree about going in positive, you never know!!!!

I had a successful version this morning after a month of acupuncture, spinning babies, and chiropractor visits that didn't work :) it was quick and painless and I hope she stays head down!

Jaimie - oh that is great! Awesome! I'm so glad that was successful for you. Yes let's hope baby stays heads down. How was the version for you? Discomfort? My dr hadn't trimmed his nails so I had red scratch marks on my tummy. But I didn't care as I was focused on relaxing my tummy and baby.

My ECV was cancelled, baby turned head down on Friday morning, confirmed by ultrasound, damn, him turning arou d was very painful for me...but so glad.

Sweetdot - you felt the baby turn on its own? I would never know how that might feel. But that is excellent! Now, stay that way until birth, lil baby!

Hello ladies, sorry I haven't been on here for a few days.... I had my ECV on Friday which was successful, it only took between 3-5 mins however I found it much more painful than expected? On my left side where the head was is now very sore I would pick to have it over a c-section any day though!

Donna - My bump where dr was putting pressure on was very sore also, for a few days actually. It felt really bruised and my tummy at the area of pressure was red. I am glad the ECV worked for you and the other ladies here. Unfortunately, I am not lucky enough so have to have a section, which is TOMORROW! Gah! I am freaked out about the whole ordeal. Everything I had hoped not to happen is happening, but that's okay. I look forward to meeting my lil man tomorrow :-)

Good luck ladies, I really hope your bubbas stay nice and comfy heads down. :flower:
