Hi I know everyone is the Same I'm so fed up and upset I've been trying for 2 years and have been told to loose 4 stone for IVF does anyone have any advise with how they cope? Thanks

Well I can see your new here and even though you did share your story I can see your sick of TTC.

So no one can really answer your question because the answer is different for every single person. I could give you a flowery answer but I know that's not what your looking for.

The truth is you've been dealt a crap hand. My best advice is to recognize that having kids isn't going to be the way you thought. Then allow yourself to be upset and mourn that fact. I also think it's good to then appreciate good things in your life that you do have. Then I'd do a lot of research I to why things are not working for you. If it's possible to correct then decide if you want to make the necessary sacrifices and do it if you choose.

No matter what road you end up taking if you have any type of infertility there are sacrifices. Some affect you more deeply than others. It's very much a mental game.

I would also through a word of caution out there. Make sure you really live life because you don't want to look back and say wow this consumed X number of years of my life.

Thanks for the advice I do normally try and live life and have lots of holidays etc... I think it's just as I've hit the 2 year milestone it's started to get to me

Feel your pain 4 years ttc now 2st overweight but lost 3st.
Bmi 29.9 seems endless task away my bmi was nearly 40 xx

Hi sorry the mobile version kinda has mind of its own.
I feel your pain : ((
Its been a tough road trying to lose weight aa fighting against pcos : (( .. not an excuse but makes weight loss a huge battle.
Are you in the uk ?
Private or nhs?

Hi there  You're definitely not alone, I have been ttc for 2 years 6 months, I was diagnosed with PCOS last year, and I have to lose about 5 stone until I'm in the BMI under 35 range. Everyone is different, but I completely agree with Milty, don't let it consume your life, I did it literally took over my life for the first 2 years, to the point where I wouldn't even plan social occasions ahead 'in case I was pregnant', it put enormous strain on my marriage and it consume my mind every waking minute. The best advice I can give is accept that it's taking longer, talk to your doctor, and enjoy life with your friends and family, doing all of this has really helped me to accept what's happening and live life while dealing with LTTTC :hugs:

Just want to say that I totally feel you.
Only thing I can suggest is trying to do things that will relieve stress like reading or pottery, I know pottery ... but seriously it's just some thing to get your mind off of other things. I've also started yoga and I really suggest acupuncture. Do things that you want to do have a drink have a Drag of a cigarette. I know these are all things were told to avoid but after 2 1/2 years of avoiding these things don't you think you deserve to be able to treat yourself.

Good luck

Hi there are all you guys in the uk ?
Im in the uk and curious to know if you and your partner have to have bmi 29.9 and below.
Me and hubby are in this situation : ((( ...
Your deemed a package so both have to abide by same rules. We hoping to go private this year and hoping all the protocol maybe a little more lenient as your paying.
Happy New year to you all..

Hi Optimistic

I'm in the UK, I have GP appointment on Monday for a referral to a fertility clinic, I have just been going through all the pre referral blood tests and stuff which has taken a couple of months. With regards to BMI, mine is 40, I have been advised by a friend that I would need to have a BMI of 30 for any kind of treatment, but for IVF BMI 25. Have you been referred and told this by a consultant? I have only heard it from friends

Hello .... ive been under the fertility team for 4 years in april.
Ive had hsg , lap.
Tubes are clear but diagnosed with pcos. My bmi was 39 and in order to be treated with metformin we both had to get to bmi 35.
My pcos is being treated well with the metformin I have regular cycles and my insulin is now regulated so my metabolism is faster so it enables me to lose weight.
But not without serious exercise and diet.
Also the metformin has some nasty side affects with to much fatty foods. It's been so hard for the both of us to lose the weight.
We are both in it together they deem you a package so both have to comply. In order to get ivf or iui we both have to have bmi 29.9 and under. So at my aug appointment last yr she discharged until we reach this target : (((
We are beyond fed up of waiting so we have decided at the end of the year we would like to proceed to pay for ivf or iui.
The nhs have their protocol that we have to adhere to.
We are fed up of the weight excuse being used even if my bmi was 22 there isn't a guarantee of pregnancy : ((..
Your probably aware of postcode lottery so these protocols are a little different around the country.
Im torbay council im allowed 1 try at ivf and 3/4 tries at iui.
Unless you pay and you get what you want.
Stay positive... well done with the weight loss .. keep it up.
It's not easy after 4 years its not easy at all. But I have hope it'll happen one day...
Keep in touch .. nice to talk xx
Sorry such a negative post.

Hi Optomistic,

Thanks for posting your story, I'm sorry you haven't had any success but well done on your weight loss, what is your BMI now? Do you know if you ovulate ok? Did they mention Clomid? I am hoping that my local hospital will say BMI 35 for Clomid but I'm doubtful, I'm just going to lose as much as possible, you are right it's so hard. I have PCOS too, although I have reasonably regular cycles and have been pregnant twice although I did lose both pregnancies quite early on. My husband is in the healthy weight range so he will be ok, it's just so hard :hugs:

Hi there...
Im sorry to hear about the losses : (( Its tough.
As far as I know ive never been pregnant but don't know what has happened in my long cycles whilst trying been unable to explain.
I ovulate naturally thank for something Heheh. ..
But fertility dr told me as soon as our bmi was 35 I could have clomid if need be.
My bmi is 31.9
In sept my bmi was so close to 30 but I broke my ankle 10 weeks ago so have had crap set back with weight.. been sat on my ass for 11 weeks.
With the pcos im lucky to lose a lb a week.
It horrid I feel it governs me.
The 4 years of trying not been eaay. It's mentally physically emotionally socially exhausting. : ((
Because we are both in the equation it makes it harder as hubby got an awfully long way to go from a bmi 29.9 : ((
But at the same time we are sick of waiting .. lives are on hold.
But the last few years after so much anguish. . Heart ache we started making other plans for us not watching every symptom, timing everything, dating everything as it drives you mad.
Im in total grievance with myself im my own worst enemy really hard on myself... feel it's me : ((
Its heart breaking.
Was your gp apt ok ? Did dr see if you was ovulating from your bloods? Do you get symptoms?
How you managing to lose weight ? Exercise ? Diet ? ... tough over Xmas.
Im a lovely person ... but becoming bitter about not being able to do whats apparently natural.
Im also 35 this year.. not looking forward being put in another box Xx
When im able we walk, swim, badminton, gym and occasionally use wii fit.
Not easy at all.... ive never been solely been able to lose weight with just diet.. I need lots of exercise. Xx

Hi Optimistic

It's great that you ovulate on your own, that's a massive thing for someone with PCOS

Sorry to hear about your breaking your ankle, what a set back you didn't need!! I hope it's on the mend.
Do you know much your BMI has to be for private ivf? I know what you mean about how hard work it is, I honestly believe that my pcos makes the weight come off slower than if I didn't have it, and go on faster!! I totally understand you saying how exhausting it is, I feel that too :hugs:
I have my GP appointment on Monday, she should have all my blood results and swab results and hopefully she will make my fertility referral then, it will be interesting to know whether anything cropped up in the tests she did, I'm fairly confident I ovulate on my own but it is quite irregular so I will be interested to know what my day 21 result was. I do get PCOS symptoms in the form of weight, and I have to really really take care of my skin otherwise I get horrible break outs. I go to slimming world, but I basically just cut down enormously on carbs and eat a lot of veggies with my meal to bulk it out, so if I have spaghetti Bolognese I basically have more of the Bolognese a tiny amount of spaghetti and then a load of veg with it, unconventional but it really works for me, speeds up my weight loss and my consultant said that someone in her group who had pcos did it and it reduced her symptoms. I haven't done well recently though with xmas and stuff, not back at group until 22nd Jan, I'm going to start walking too because I don't do much exercise at all at moment.

Hi thurl30....
Yeh it certainly has been an awful set back for me but im getting back to normal getting back on my feet slowly.
Starting swimming mon thank fully had ok from physio.
Just desperate to get this weight off.
We don't know the bmi for private but as you assume you throw money at anything and it has to offer you something.
Im determined to get to 29.9 myself. Its a way to go but I hear and read with ivf the likely hood of it working with bmi over 29.9 are minimal the chances are lowered with the amount of fatty tissue around the abdomen. This is just a ive read.
Just for my hubbys sake being able to do it with a bmi of 35.
He's got quite a bit of weight to lose to get to 35 but its possible.
Asking some people to get to these bmi is just so hard and unrealistic.
Bmi is a load of crap if you ask me it doesn't take into consideration.
Just very unrealistic.
Good luck with all the tests on mon I will be thinking of you. . Sending you positive thoughts : ))
Its always good to hear these things they know where you are and what can help.
Well done with weight loss..
Slimming world. I didn't get on so well after first bit of weight loss I didn't find the lady running the group supportive of only 1lb weight loss weekly although I tried explaining pcos.
Ive managed to gain the will power to just do it myself.
Pcos has affected my periods , lack of cycle, heavy, weight gain, hair growth... its awful.
I just don't think they can blame everything on weight : ((
Its hard I have lots of friends and family who have had no problems getting pregnant with 1/2/3..
It just gets so hard.
I'd love to be a mum... id love to make hubby a dad that's all we ask for is a family. We have so much to love to offer : ((
Sorry xx
Good luck on mon let me know what happens xx : ))))

I had my first IUI at BMI = 40, my first IVF at BMI = 37, and am now having my FET at BMI = 35. Our doctor in the US didn't want to do anything with my weight so high, so we went to the Czech Republic for IVF there. They did a great job, and though I m/c, we did get pregnant our 1st cycle. Hoping this FET works even better! If you're already paying for it out of pocket, or if you can afford to, I say go somewhere else. ISCARE in Prague, CZ (where DH and I go) is great. A full cycle including all meds, storage of embryos, procedures, etc, etc, etc, costs about $6000. My doctor is Marika, and she is absolutely AMAZING. If you at any point decide to travel there, let me know, and I can get you in touch with their coordinator. <3

Hi there.... nice to hear your story.
Sorry it's not been an easy one for you : ((
Sorry for your loss.
With the nhs both hubby and I have to have bmi 29.9 : ((
This is why we are planning to go private as they might not be as tough on hubby. I hopefully will be able to get mine to 30 / 29.9 not without punishment over the past few years of battling to lose it.
Well done to you for taking the leap of having treatment in another country.
It's all very costly isn't it.
We are saving this year getting our selves Into a better financial position.
With this keep attacking the weight at the same time.
We couldn't afford the travelling to another country to/fro as treatment needed. Doubt our employers would take light to this.
But many thanks for letting us know.
Its always something to bear in mind.
Also I would like to go to harley St clinic in London but this commute of 400mile round trip.
Good luck on your journey....
Fingers crossed for your treatment. : ))))

I'm so sorry, I didn't realise you had replied to me ages ago, I haven't been ignoring you :flower:

I agree with you completely, BMI is so unrealistic, my healthy weight would not suit me at all, I would be too think I can picture it now, but I will just have to wait and see what happens, you have done so well already

Slimming World is hit and miss really, my consultant is lovely, and she knows all about my PCOS but more importantly she understands it, she has made a couple of suggestions, the biggest one is cutting carbs right down to a tiny amount, this works but is very hard :dohh:

I went to the docs, basically they did one of my tests wrong and tested for prolactin instead of progesterone on my day 21 test :dohh: so basically I have to wait now until I ovulate, and then a week later go and have the test re-done, probably be about 5 / 6 weeks because af has shown today. My DH has also got to have an SA, he has a gp appointment on Friday, this has caused a bit of friction between us because he is in such an anxious state about it. When all this has been done then she will be ready to make the referral, so hopefully by March I will have been referred :)

Thank you for asking after me, you are welcome to join my journal (link in my signature) if you would like to keep in touch. Do you have a journal?

Hey there ... ive never seen a journal link to be honest .. I don't have one.
Yeh id like to keep in touch I will connect to your journal.
Think the mobile version a little different to web.

That's so annoying for you for your surgery to get your tests wrong.
Like you say gotta wait til next time.

Exciting for you possible referral March : ))

Men work differently...
All they do is provide the sperm in the conception process and I think they could possibly feel threatened maybe when sperm being tested.
Men are quite proud about their manhood.
I think just on the whole... the whole treatment of fertility is tough on the couple for both parties.
My hubby did it twice its not easy but once you have answers it allows the process to move on.

The more the fertility team know the more they can help : )) .

Carbs is a real buggar for me.
I think id do so much better without bread.
Im good with potatoes don't tend to eat to many.

Period has arrived today with some awful pain.

Im so glad to see it arrive but on the other side I so desperately want it to be late : (((

I understand in 2015 they plan to address some of the nice guidelines around fertility I pray they make bmi a little easier : ))
Take care : )))))
