Hi all

I am new to formula feeding and keen to get some advice. My son is 4.5 weeks old and feeds pretty much every three hours.

I have been advised that he should have approx 3-4 oz a feed however he is really inconsistent. Sometimes he will take 5-6 oz and others only 1-2oz.

In particular at night. He will wake up and cry roughly every 3 hours but only take a small feed. His day feeds he takes more.

Should I be trying to get him to feed more evenly or is this normal?

Thanks for any advice

My LO always has taken less at night, think its because she is so sleepy she cant stay awake to have a full feed so we have started making smaller bottles for night time feeds so we dont waste formula. As far as Im aware its normal :) x

I use an iPhone app that tracks her food intake as well as diapers and sleep.

Lily gets 28 oz per day and she is gaining weight and has tons of wet diapers and poopy ones too.

She usually has 4.5 oz in one sitting and eats every 3 hours.

If your LO is having lots of wet diapers try not to worry. If you're concerned though you could go to your doctor.

GL!!

It sounds completely normal to me :)

Rhys takes more at some feeds than others though it seems to be pretty hit or miss with him as to which ones will be less. He has fallen into his own little routine of when he eats but the amount is always anyone's guess
