Really am in a financial pickle :nope: DH & I just moved not too long ago & are just starting out at our new place, so as you can imagine, we don't have much at all, & we're skint pretty much all the time. Brenna will be turning one in just a few months, & I'm trying to plan a birthday party for a lot of people. I originally wanted it to be small, but SO many people have bought her stuff that I'd feel bad if I didn't invite everyone. I want it to be a good birthday party, or at least try my best to, & we wanted to rent out a fire hall or something for the space. I just need some advice or help from someone who has gone through the same thing & had a success story. Only problem is, we can't even afford the freaking deposit on the hall, let alone a birthday cake, presents, party supplies, food, & everything else in between. Her birthday is the day after Christmas, & I'm growing incredibly stressed & discouraged. Just feeling like an all around failure right now ... :nope:

one idea would be to have an 'open house'

pick a day... invite people through the day to your home, say from 10-4pm to pop in for a while to have a cuppa and may be a home made cake or muffin (you could do this cheaply if you are organised) a few balloons, a banner won't cost too much.

people don't expect too much esp is they know things are tight with money.

they just want to see and have a cuddle with LOs!

i agree with the last post open house is a great idea because you can do it cheaply and havent got to entertain a large number of people at the same time. shop about ebay have some great birthday items, plates, table cloth ect and they are reasonable prices. pound shop is a life saver you can buy loads of party stuff in there. birthday cakes dont have to cost the earth either you could make it yourself, you can buy a giant cupcake maker off ebay for a fiver and follow the instructions or take a photo of the little one to asda and have it put on a cake for around eight pound. if you really want a hall type party then shop about, i once had a friend who hired a scout hut for thirty pound for 2 hours. secondary school also have good rates as do churches. food can be cheap remember children don't really eat loads so dont overdo it, just some sandwiches, crisps ect stop stressing it will be fine just get organised you said you've got a few months so buy something little each week. if you are thinking about party bags again remember how young the children are so they cant actually play with anything in them so would probably be a waste of money, maybe just give them a thank you note (made on the computer so free) and a helium balloon (asda sell helium) most importantly you are not a failure your little one will probably not remember it anyway stop stressing

Thanks for the responses! So much has been piling up lately I just don't know where to start, whew! I'm looking into the Open House idea :flower:

start with the small things and they will all come together. you probably wont noice a few things extra in your trolly each week and just put them away. hope all goes ok x
