Just wondering if food made with nutramigen can be frozen? My DS has been on rice and rusks for the past week or so (hes loving it) and tonight i made him some mash potato with mixed veggies and blended it with nutramigen. I underestimated the amount id make and ended up with a pan full ...can i freeze it so he can have it through the week?

Thanks ladies :)

Ps i know a lot of you wont agree with weaning so early but charlie's 19lb and the 5 x 8oz bottles a day were not satisfying him

Aww 19lb my 8 months old hasnt reached that yet! He was 16lb5 about 3 weeks ago but his poor weight gain is part of his milk allergy!

I was given a recipe book of things to make with nutramigen (altho lo is on neocate but they are similar so i still use it) and it says freeze anything you dont use on most of the recipes! So yes is the answer!

Hi there,

I weaned at 16 weeks as per LO's dietician's advice so no judgement here (plus it's *your* LO, so it's 100% your choice) LO is on neocate which is pretty similar to nutramigen and her dietician told me I need to give foods I make with the stuff within one hour and not freeze or refrigerate. Not sure if it's the same with nutramigen, hopefully someone will come along who knows more about that, but I just wanted to say I've had great success with coconut milk in foods for LO versus her neocate.

I didn't introduce it until 23-24 weeks and I use a low sugar, no preservative, calcium enriched version but she really likes the taste and it actually freezes pretty well... So maybe something like that might be an idea for when he's a bit older....! :)

Thank you ladies :D charlie is on nutramigen aa at the moment but my doctor is switching him back to lipil because apparently i didnt give it enough time to take effect the first time but i think its all down to money (apparently nutramigen aa costs my gp £30 a tub and im getting 8 at a time)! I think its shocking to be honest i think the fact he has thrived on aa should speak volumes and he has perfectly formed poops now :) no more horrible diarrhoea yeyy

The coconut milk sounds good i will try that at a later date :D

So far hes had rice, rusk and tonight mash/veg. I gave him some homemade pureed apple and he hated it, his face was a picture lol. Do your babas have any particular favourites which i could try? Im gonna try to make everything myself to save money because those jars aint cheap and im sure homemade will be tastier x

My LO loved banana (it's still her favourite.) The Nutramigen yoghurt style dessert went down well too.

As for switching, it may be that now everything is ok with your LO he will be fine on Lipil 1. My LO is so allergic to milk that if any trace of it is left on something that she touches she will come out in hives and she is just fine on Lipil so try not to worry to much. I hear you about the cost though. Lipil is £10 a tub, and one of the GP's at our surgery fought against my LO going on it. Dietitian and Paed soon overruled him. I wish I could have seen his face when the dietician ordered her to be moved from Lipil 1 to 2 last month instead of going onto another cows milk substitute available over the counter until at least January.

Yep you can freeze nutramigen in food, if you like the facebook page they regularly post good recipes :)

It's also perfectly fine to freeze neocate in food, it says so on the neocate website.

Yup, we use Nutramigen and I use it to cook with and then freeze a lot.

I do have to point out to you though that at that age my LO was also on five or six 8oz bottles a day, we waited till the 26 weeks to wean. And just be careful about what foods you give him as you have to watch what you can give them between 4-6 months, e.g no gluten, but from 6 months onwards its anything apart from honey and whole nuts.

I make a lot of my own food for LO but Ella's Kitchen pouches are wonderful-all organic ingredients and very tasty and good to have on the go. They have lots of dairy/milk free products.

Forgot to add, I love Organix. My LO loved their 4+ month cereals and they don't add dairy where it isn't needed. They also have a detailed allergy list for all their products on their website.
