For the Reproductively Challenged xxxxx

We have hardly had to wait long at all to be honest. We went to the doctors just over three weeks ago for DH's SA results, and it was then the doctor referred us. She did it via a new system (called choose and book) which meant we had to pick up a referral letter a week later which had a log in and password for an NHS website and we then got a list of dates up which we could choose from. We've booked it for the last week in August, which is about six weeks from the date we went to the doctors.

Oooh this is total news to me!
Dr called me about 2 weeks ago to say he's gonna refer us and we haven't heard anything since....

Sounds like I need to chase him up!

Last week in August though - thats not far away....

Our doctor said the wait was about three months, but its been about half that. Apparently a lot of hospitals and doctors don't use the choose and book system as they don't like it (they just do 'standard' referrals instead) so I guess it depends on your health service.

Won't hurt to chase it up I guess? Good luck x

peekaboo - you're a star!

Just called the Drs and they do use the choose + book service but there are no notes on my records. Sounds like the Dr might've forgotten to refer us

Doctors hey?!

Glad you got somewhere. It's great being able to choose your own appointment once you get the log in info.

x

pah - turns out our dr didn't use the choose and book service - he just did it the old way. we just have to wait now for the appointment - the Consultants secretary said its likely to be end of september / early october.

I'll be v interested to hear how your appointment goes and what they suggest...

got my appointment date - 17th September !
Just like you it came much sooner than I thought.
Whens your appointment?

:rofl:Reproductively challenged! That's me too, thou I don't know yet what I'm challenged by, other than my age. I've been ttc properly for 18 cycles now. I've given up this and that and taken up all the others, I have regular AF, chart goes up in the right place but to no avail so far. I just had a whole heap of hormonal blood tests done last Thursday and am now waiting for the results. A little bit scarred if I'm honest but I really need to know my enemy now. Was really glad to see this thread and more intrigued by the title than put off. I'll be back.

Heya Nise - Glad you're joining us!

18 cycles is a long old time. Bet you'll be glad to find out it something really simple that they can fix in just a few cycles! Ha... PMA and all that.

Well good luck for the test results.
What tests did they do - standard bloods or the CD21 etc...?

Standard and CD3 FSH. Yep more patience required... oh well.

oooh - a CD3 test - so that round should get your LH and FSH levels then...

I'm happy with the bloods but I'd really rather avoid the HSG one though

Hi ladies, how is everyone? Not been on here for few days as had a busy weekend (too much alcohol when TTC but life can't always revolve around TTC can it?).

cazd, I've got my appointment next Wed, so will let you know how it goes. Do you think they'll actually do any tests at the first appointment or do you think it will be a case of chatting to FS and then having to go back for tests at certain times of cycle?

Yeah - I've been trying to keep off the wine too - its hard work!

I got a letter confirming my appointment but it says that it'll be with a nurse to take our history and book our tests CD21 bloods, SA and HSG. The letter said that further tests in 1st week of cycle would be done too - so I 'm guessing that'll be the same one as Nise's CD3 test...

Then after we've had the tests we'll be booked to see the FS Consultant - about 4-8 weeks later!!!

Why is everything so long-winded??! I know they have to do all kinds of tests, but there always seems a big wait in between everything.

I wonder if it will be any different for us as I've already had the CD1&21 tests, and DH has already had his SA. I haven't had an HSG though.

Speaking of alcohol, have you cut right down or are you still drinking? I've been worrying about this lately, but we have had so many parties and weddings to go to lately, and I just wanted to carry on enjoying myself and not constantly be thinking 'I'm not going to drink just in case'. Plus there's the extra hassle of people asking why you're not drinking and then asking if you're pregnant, which is hard when you're trying!! So I decided to carry on as normal until I get that BFP, but now I'm worried I'm doing the wrong thing. My 'normal' is not drinking during the week but then having a good few glasses of wine on the weekend (two nights, or occasionally three nights). I don't drink more than the government guidelines for women in a week but probably more than I should when TTC. What's your approach to this? I've got a couple more weeks of parties, so just going to carry on as normal for a bit longer, then really cut back after that. I really really really want a BFP before Christmas! x

Sounds like your FS appointment is to discuss the test results.
I wish they'd book our tests now so we'll have something to talk about when we go!

Re the alcohol - its a big old nightmare.

1. alcohol consumption at any level can reduce your fertility and it should be avoided during TTC

2. alcohol during the first 14 days of pregnancy can cause all kinds of complications for the baby and may contribute to m/c

I really do try and not drink at all after Ov. I've had 3 glasses of red wine this month (ha - apart from the gallon I drank when AF showed!) and I feel bad that 2 of those were past ov.

I won't be having any more now 'till the :witch: shows - I do find it difficult - and especially when I have a drink to compensate for AF and I have to not keep drinking the next days too!

I think if you're sticking to the daily recommendation then you're probably OK but if you want to get PG more quickly then give it up.

Hmmm - now how easy is that to say

I agree with all the drink stuff you said. Difficult when so many people are getting married and having birthdays!! I am definitely going to limit my intake to one or two glasses of wine a week next cycle. It should be good timing as well as we'll have seen the FS so at least we'll be cutting down on the alcohol AND knowing that we're moving in the right direction by seeing a specialist.

As for the appointment, we've already spoken to our doctors about the test results, but the referral is to do further investigations, so whether they'll do anything on that first appointment or whether it will be the time after I'm not sure. Not long to wait now though so I'll keep you posted. x

I know what you mean about the drinking thing - Why oh why do all our friends get married or have parties during the 2WW - most inconsiderate. I try not to drink at all after O but if I'm in a situation where I don't want people to notice I drink really really weak shandy and make noises about being really thirsty - usually shuts them up.

Damn - someones just come round. I'll be back in a bit coz I want your advice on CM....

to be continued....

Right possible tmi here but hey! So yesterday late afternoon whilst searching for my cervix (I am new to this method and not very good at it yet and thinking of giving it up as it does give me the collywobbles) anyway I found a lot of CM. Sort of a creamy non colour but not clear, the interesting thing was that it was really stretchy and did not break which I expected it to. I was able to stretch it between finger and thumb at full spread. My question is how do I report this in FF as Creamy or EW (I have put creamy for the mo and hope it will turn completely clear in the next day or so) What would you put? Today I have had heaps of CM throughout the day, still not clear, a bit gloopy but still very stretchy. I haven't had this much CM for months.

Heya - there's no such thing as TTC TMI in my book !!!

I'd defo put that down as EWCM - and with my mystical predictive senses I reckon it'll go clear today.

Keep up with the CP and CM checking if you can - its a fabulous clue to OV time.
Just check it at the same time everyday 'cos if its anything like mine it'll move all over the place as the day goes on!

And if its that stretchy then you need to get some :spermy: in there ASAP !!!!

Hey Cazd, can I dip my toe in too please... bit of a background for those I don't know..
i stopped the depo injection in november 2007, so have officially been ttc since february 2009 when the last one wore off, fortunately my surgery are keeping to November though, I had progesterone level taken nov 2008 which was 4, and then in May it was 15 (needs to be above 30) so have been ntnp since then (with amazing track kept of when i'm o'ing!!) and stopped charting. it is still thought that the depo is taking its time departing and this is reflected in my charts and blood work from jan to may, af is about to come and i will start charting again to take back to drs in Nov. I have been told that if nothing has happened by then I should be referred to fertility specialist. I have started taking vit b50 this cycle so have no idea if this will affect lengths, my ususal LP is 13 days, cycle length between 25-41 days averaging at 28-29. I also take EPO up until I ovulate...
So I guess although I don't fit in quite yet, I would like to linger to see what others experience are of FS and hope u do not mind
xx
