Found the cat in the baby's Moses basket - fuming!

put in double sided tape (tape it to paper or something instead of sheet)... Kitty will learn in no time!!!! Good luck!

We had a cat that was allowed to roam free before the baby was born (when I lived in my parents) we were lucky that she never jumped into anything but she would have always sniffed around new things like the bouncer etc.. I never had a net but she would be put into another room if the baby was there, I felt like it was the only way to be certain x

I have 2 young female cats and they have been very curious about the baby things coming in. They havent reacted very well to the change as I think it causes them stress and have both got in the cot and the moses basket. I have left the bedroom door open for them to get used to the new look and smell, and I knew they would try and get in but it then gives me the opportunity to teach them it is not allowed before the baby is here.

I shoo them out/use water to scare them and tell them sternly no. They dont know any different and will naturally be curious.

When the baby is here it will upset their peace so will probably try and stay as far away from the baby as they possibly can! Patience and perseverence pay off with them :)

We've spent countless hours steam cleaning the sofas and they will never really be good again. Eventually we'll have to get new ones. They don't pee on microfiber only leather... I'll have to look into the orange spray... Haven't tried that. We have used the feliway spray, it's okay but expensive too. We also have been battling fleas, all the drops that go on their backs haven't worked.... Flea collars don't work, finally best we have found is brewers yeast with garlic supplements and frequent baths... Only a few left at this point, which is a miracle. Dogs take an oral flea medicine and are fine... But the cats are a whole different story! I think we are almost there... Hoping they'll be gone before LO comes! I haven't been bitten in a few weeks which us a vast improvement. I think the fleas in our area are super fleas and building tolerance to pesticides used to kill them!! My older cat's skin and overall health has been so much better with the brewer's yeast!

The fleas are another reason we are keeping the cats out of our bedroom and the nursery for now! They also are banned from the bathrooms - as one likes to eat trash, soap and drink toilet water! Love my cats but they are little pistols!

Along with the brewers yeast, get a flea comb. Use it daily; have a cup of water with a squirt of liquid soap in it, then put the fleas in it as you catch them with the comb. The soap kills them. Also, if your cats keep going outside, they'll keep getting fleas unless you can have your garden treated as well. It's difficult to solve a flea problem, but it can be done. Good luck!

I know of a baby that was sat on by a cat, that baby was me! Luckily my Mum had a cat net on the pram and had only taken her eyes off me for a minute so obviously I was fine. Think he was doing it on purpose, I remember him from when I was little and he hated everyone except my Dad!

Despite that there is no way I would consider getting rid of my two without an extremely good reason, we took on the responsibility of looking after them for life and I take that very seriously. We've got a cat net, we're changing the catch on the nursery door because the cats have worked out how to break in(!) and I'll be making sure I'm very vigilant. I've also found that both of them tend to steer of visiting babies so hopefully they'll stay that way. Of course my baby will come first but I love my kitties to bits and it would break my heart to even consider letting them go.

I really enjoyed all the tips etc, on here! I have 2boy cats and people keep saying "when are you getting rid of the cats, they might kill the baby" I find it so upsetting! I also find it annoying that people would think I've not thought this through and researched stuff!
Aparently one of the tips is the day you come home, oh should bring the baby in, and you should go in and greet the cats, so they know you still love them. I think that's the theory. :) worth a try! :) good luck ladies, lets hope my 2silly boys can learn quick! :) xx

Yeah the key is to make sure they still feel loved and get attention or they will play up, or move out! ;-)

What flea medication are you using? I work at a vet clinic, and here it's pretty well known that Frontline doesn't work too well anymore. It's like there is an immunity. Have you tried Revolution? I swear by it (though haven't had to use it on an animal in about 4 years), fleas just fall off dead overnight. Might be worth looking into especially with baby coming!

:)

Having read through this I have one suggestion... Eat.The.Cat.

Sorry, couldn't resist. We were considering getting a cat but have decided to wait until the children are a bit older, mainly because our friend's cat comes to stay sometimes and our 17 month old follows it round constantly, holding it's tail and she's too placid to swipe him or run away!

I don't think I can cope with children AND animals but if I already had one I would keep it and try and train it.

don't know if it's been suggested already, but we put a baby gate on the nursery and it stops my cat going in the room as he used to find her cot very appealing :dohh:

My kitties would also just jump over the gate....little buggers! They are lucky they are so darn cute!

Are they actually called 'cat nets' if I look online for them?

yeah they're called cot cat nets, but i bought one and found it was a royal pain to put on unless the cot is pulled away from the walls so you can reach all 4 corners to tie it and my cat just leapt on top so it sagged and eventually landed in the cot anyway where i couldn't make it taunt enough!

i guess its different things work for different people...you may get on better with it

Thank you for the input on managing the fleas! I'll have to try the flea comb idea and talk to the vet about revolution. My kitties are indoors only but my SIL borrowed our vacuum about a year ago and infested us with fleas.... It was never an issue before that. I can say the brewers yeast has at least given me hope, where as before I was convinced we would never get rid of them! My older cat is getting better skin every day. She was so bad a month ago we talked of putting her to sleep, lethargic and red skin with bleeding... now she's almost back to normal! Makes me so glad we didn't give up on her! She hasn't responded well to young children in the past bc our nephew gave her the evil eye when he was little so she usually hisses at kids younger than about 5... So I'm hoping we can keep her stress down when our LO comes!! Our male cat loves kids and with him I'm sure he will be curious and wanting to be near the baby from day one! This thread shows how unique each cat is... Just like people they have distinct personalities!

Do you have carpet or rugs? If so, you will need to flea bomb your house one day while you all leave the house.

No point treating the flees if you don't treat your house too, although there are products that kill flees near the cat as well as on it. Do some Internet research or talk to your vet!
