Found the cat in the baby's Moses basket - fuming!

I've got 2 cats, both of them have cat beds, but they only use them when they're getting sprayed with water for doing something bad. Otherwise, they're on the couch, kitchen chairs, in the middle of the floors and in doorways... It's a real pain in the butt.

FOB is actually allergic, but he's attached to the one cat, so he doesn't want to get rid of them. I actually threatened to give them away because no one but me was feeding them, giving them water, and only FOB was changing the litter box, even though everyone plays with them and wants them in the house.

We're buying nets for the crib, playpen, and the bassinet, but I have a feeling my cats will have no problem clawing through the nets. We might just have to be vigilant with keeping the nursery door shut, and possibly keeping the cats in the bathroom for most of the day while we develop a routine with the baby.

What flea medication are you using? I work at a vet clinic, and here it's pretty well known that Frontline doesn't work too well anymore. It's like there is an immunity. Have you tried Revolution? I swear by it (though haven't had to use it on an animal in about 4 years), fleas just fall off dead overnight. Might be worth looking into especially with baby coming!

I use revolution on all three of my cats! I think it works great.

There is some very useful info on here about what to do as prevention - many thanks.

I think the issue I have is although one can train a pet, ultimately the pet is an animal and will do what it pleases. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my cat to pieces, but I have to also be realistic. For example, our cat NEVER jumps onto work surfaces. She knows not to and has been sufficiently 'trained'. However, just yesterday two of my neighbours commented on how cute it is that our cat sits on the work surface in our kitchen while we're out! I have never caught her on the work surface so cannot use a water spray to let her know this is naughty. She clearly knows not to do it when we're around.

It's the same thing when people say 'don't worry, my dog never bites' and then the dog bites someone - this happened a few years back to a well known dog in the area.

Animals are unpredictable and although some may always behave in a way that you have trained, you simply cannot prevent them from doing what they want, whatever the circumstances.

I am just trying to be logical about this and I don't blame my cat at all. She is simply behaving in a way that any cat would.

Thanks for all the info on this thread, ladies. My cat now does not go any where near the moses basket after the tin foil trick. In fact she will only go in the nursery if I go in, otherwise she totally ignores that room and the great thing is the door is open all the time! :happydance:

Thanks x
