I am just curious if anyone has had weight loss surgery before they were pregnant? If so can anyone tell me what to expect? The reason I ask is that I had gastric bypass in 2008. I went from 335lbs to my current weight which is 190lbs. I just turned 39 in July, who is a mother of a 12yr old daughter, and currently pregnant. Wow that's a lot!! lol Anyways I don't know if there are any concerns. My OH has his own concerns but I don't think this has crossed his mind.

Thanks

I have!!! I had my RNY in August 2008. I went from 370lbs to my lowest of 210lbs when I got pregnant. I am 43 and this is my first miracle pregnancy!!
I am 28 weeks and feeling pretty good.
Just did my Sugar blood test and I had to do something different cuz if we drink the sugary drink we could have dumping or a bunch of other issues..so my nutritionist came up with a high carb breakfast and then wait one hour then do the blood test. My OB actually know quite a bit about WLS so I find she is right on board.
One other thing that is a bit different is I take 1 prenatal vitamin, 1 chewable multivitamin, my calcium and B12. My OB's isn't too worried about my weight gain which is about 22lbs right now. She just wants to make sure the baby and I am getting enough nutrients.
My biggest concern was the weight gain...but i know its for the baby and I am not going too crazy..and with only being able to eat small amounts I eat about 8 times a day now.
So that is my experience so far...hope its helpful!
Please feel free to keep in touch!

Thank you Tova for the information. My doctor knows that I had gastric bypass. We do blood work to make sure all my vitamin levels are on the up. I don't have to watch my sugar levels. I am going in tomorrow to see my doctor to see about getting my levels checked again. I don't have a dietitian so I guess my doctor and I will be watching everything. I just want this little blessing to be 100%.

Good luck to both of you. I haven't had surgery, but I thought about it and sometimes I wish I did.

I'm pregnant now and weigh 230. I worry about my weight and the complications it may cause (I really need to ban google on my pc). I've lost lots of weight a few times over the last 10 years, but never got pregnant at those times. I somehow managed to get pregnant now (at my biggest) and though I am scared, I hope it all works out. I've waited 10 years for this BFP. This is my first pregnancy! Anyway, I hope we all have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. :hugs:

Hi Mother Hen this is actually my second pregnancy. My first one I weighed 280lbs and was 26yrs old. I didn't have any fears just felt horrible about my weight. Once I had my daughter I weighed 320lbs. I was extremely depressed and had a hard time with everything. I never let anyone touch my stomach and never had pictures taken of me while I was pregnant.

Now that I am thinner and a lot healthier I look forward to this pregnancy. I've been told by my doctors that if I ever got pregnant that it would be the healthiest pregnancy because I wouldn't be able to eat junk like I use too. I've even been told that a baby would be healthier.

I'm happy with my weight loss and keep positive thoughts that everything will be great. I don't always recommend gastric to people when they ask because I don't believe its for everyone. I tell people my what I did was for me so I could be healthier.

I know you will have a great pregnancy too and enjoy every minute of it.

I know you will do well and you will enjoy this pregnancy so much more! I am concentrating on eating healthy. I am eating plenty of food, but I have lost 6 pounds, so far. I am hoping to maintain my weight through pregnancy and not gain much, if any. My GP said this was ok as long as I was eating enough for the baby. I'll be meeting with a nutritionist soon to work with me.

Good luck to you ladies!

I had a BPD in July 07, I weighed in at 337 pounds on the day of surgery. I got pregnant with my first DD in Sept 08 i weighed 171 pounds, I had a iron infusion before and after I had Scarlett then I fell pregnant again in the Sept 09 with Second DD, I weighed in at 149 pounds. I am currently 5.5 weeks pregnant with our third and I weigh 145 pounds. I had regular contact with my surgeon during my pregnancies and constant blood work. I didnt gain any weight with either pregnancies and the DR werent concerned as the babies were growing well, they were both just over 3kg or 6.9 pounds and very healthy. I did however struggle to beastfeed, just couldnt seem to eat enough for both me and the girls, so switched to formula. oh and I have just turned 39:winkwink:

Congrats Emmae! On both the pregnancies/babies and also your weight loss! :happydance:

Wow Emmae congrats on both!! I did speak to my weight loss office yesterday. They wanted me to get a high risk OB. Then when I told them all the things my physician did for me they were happy. Everything that they told me I needed to do my physician already did. I had a ton of blood work, a physical, and an ultrasound. So the only things I need to do is get my results sent to them, increase my calories to 200-300 a day, and watch my vitamin intake. I'm just hoping and praying that everything goes ok especially with the baby.
