We have opted to do the quad screen, but before I can do it, I have to go in for genetic counseling because of my age. That is exactly how the lady on the phone said it. I hope they have a place I can park my walker. :dohh:

Oh I am 36. Ancient!

My current clinic didn't make us do anything like that. With my last pregnancy, they made me have genetic counseling right before the 20 week scan. I am 42 this time and was 39 last time.

I've had genetic counseling for my last three pregnancies (one loss). I actually found it interesting and the counselor was a huge help when I had trouble in my last pregnancy. It's annoying that it's based on age though.

I'm at the opposite end of the scale. I'm currently 42 and 18 weeks pregnant I've had 2 miscarriages and have a 10 month old baby with Down Syndrome (born when I was 41, apparently a random occurence although my uncle also had Down Syndrome) and was refused genetic counselling. Go figure that one if you can! I think it depends on budgets and which PCT you are under. I say if it's offered, take it.
