I am still suffering from bad hyperemesis, and due to having previous large babies my midwife wants me to have a diabetes test, which I am willing to try. But, I don't see me being able to keep down the sugary drink. The whole thing sounds like a nightmare....anyone have experience of this? Any tips to pass on?

Hi, I had GD last time. Are you in the Uk? As when I had my test I had to drink lucuzade which I quite like so it didn't worry me too much. I've heard in the USA they drink something horrid though.
I would definitely take an iPod with you and a book or mag as it is so boring waiting but totally worth it xx goodluck, I hope you don't have GD X

Hi

I had the GTT test, and to be honest although the sugary drink was not nice (unfortunately my trust must be short on cash as there was no lucozade for me) it was fine...just drink it as quickly as you can as you don;'t want it lingering in your mouth :)

With mine, rather than making me wait in the hospital for a few hours, I went home and came back again which was ok as I could get on with a few bits...really try not to worry about this, hope it goes well hun

I was sure I would be sick but in the end I was fine. I did have lucozade though rather than the old style drink. I was told to take in my own lucozade so if you haven't then it might be the other one.

If you are sick I doubt the test will work but if they have to I think there is an iv test they can do instead.

hi i need to get this test done at 20 weeks as my dad suffers from diabetes which puts me at risk of developing it while pregnant but im sure my midwife said it was a blood test or maybe i miss heard her !!!

It's sort of three blood tests. They do one, then they make you drink something sugary, then they do another after one hr and another after 2hrs. It's to test how your body deals with the sugar in the drink.

I might ask if I can try another type of drink...my problem is that I am still taking anti-sickness meds and mornings are my worst time

hi I had the test done first I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything from 12 oclock midnight, I had my appointment at 9am so I don't feel to hungry, I then gave a blood sample she then made me drink a quarter bottle of locazade the original flavour urgggh I hated it lol then I was told to wait in the waiting room
and not do anything no walking just relaxing then after a couple hours I gave another blood sample and told to go home and await the results I hope this helps also my advise it gets pretty boring sitting down for 2 hours so take plenty to read or someone for company goodlook xx

BTW I had to buy the lucuzade too, the NHS doesn't provide it here either.
