Hi girls, wondering if anyone can help me. I've just found out I am pregnant again - total surprise 'on the pill and while breastfeeding' baby!! Super happy though :)
My milk supply has taken a bit of a dive, does anyone know of a safe way to increase milk. I don't want to dry up yet, by 8 month old still needs me.

Funny enough, I was just reading up on lactogenic foods yesterday!

Oatmeal, barley, chickpeas (hummus), leafy greens (spinach, kale, etc) are all supposed to help with milk production, and they're all healthy and safe to eat during pregnancy! Home made barley water and malt drinks (Non alcoholic) are meant to be good as well.

ETA: Make extra sure you're getting enough water to drink and calories! You'll need more than you would if you were just pregnant OR just breast feeding.

This is so hard! So the blocked duct from tues is now cleared and now I have one on the other side. Seriously?!? I need to get her latch checked today as it suddenly seems really shallow and I can't seem to correct it. Going to see the breast feeding counsellor today to get that done. Also thought if buy some lecithin to see if that helps. Has anyone used this? What dose should I take?

Why is it that as soon as something seems to be going well it all falls apart again?

Thats a tough one. I have read that mothers milk, and fenugreek should not be taken during pregnancy to get your supply up. I've heard oatmeal is great with milk production. Have you tried that?
Sorry im not much of a help, usually I see most women have to give up breastfeeding in pregnancy cause the milk decrease or baby does not like the taste of the milk anymore. I hope someone answers your question and you can continue to feed bubs as long as you both want too:hugs:

Thank you Jennifer and SHump. I have been drinking heaps of water, i am just so thirsty! But I am going to start eating oats for breakfast from now on :) It sucks because I just bought a new bottle of fenugreek right before I found out I was pregnant, and it has worked so well for me before!

Important tip above. This makes perfect sense although not that easy to do. a lot of the time I'm starving but I only want toast :(

soph77- I second the oats, and would like to add that non-alcoholic beer (at least according to my nutritionist) help increase your supply.

And yes, make sure you stay hydrated. x

soph77- I know what you mean, I found it soooo hard to eat during the first trimester!
Do the best you can, mama!!

soph77 come to this thread...lots of ladies pregnant and feeding or ttc while feeding etc :D

Hi everyone again,

I'm back as I'm now really struggling and could do with some advice.

LO's latch has become very shallow - I just can't seem to get him to open his mouth like he was last week. He is getting milk as I can hear and see that is the case, but it seems he either comes off out of frustration and then wobbles my nipple all over the place trying to get back on, or suck and sucks for ages and then resorts to screaming after about 40 minutes.:-(

It's heartbreaking to see him trying so hard but clearly not being satisfied - we have had to give him some ready made formula bottles again, whereas before it was ad hoc, now one a day is creeping in...it makes me so sad sitting there with boobs to feed but having him frown at a bottle :-(

Can anyone relate to this/have any advice? He's generally very unsettled now, is rarely content while awake and also has taken to trying to stay awake for hours on end and exhausting himself, but not sleeping for any longer.

Jut to summarise if you didn't see initial post - baby 9lbs 7oz at birth, 4 weeks old tomorrow, EBF until about 1 days 2weeks ago when ad hoc formula used as so hungry.

Thanks

I think there's a growth spurt around 3 weeks..

When he's just Breastfed, how is his output? Plenty wet diapers? Pooping ?

Tbh your supply will decrease cause of formula, I'd recommend seeing a lactation specialist..

Can anyone tell me why my LO randomly will pull off my boob but with her mouth shut (which HURTS!!) and then be really upset afterwards cause shes still hungry. And its not a case of my milk isn't there cause sometimes its at the beginning of the feed or randomly in the middle.

Yes he has plenty of wet nappies and poos a couple of times a day.

Looking into lactation specialists now...

Is he gaining weight?

Last time he was weighed he had, but thats 2weeks ago now - he certainly feels heavier and now doesn't fit the few newborn things we could get him into - hoping to get him weighed Monday morn.

Are you too engorged for a deep latch? Can you try pumping or hand expressing a little to "soften the nips up" for baby?

My baby is three months. I cant overcome the fact that he is not breastfed. I am so sad because of this. Is there any possibilites for me to start bf now?

Our doctor says its too late now and that I shoudnt confuse him and just stick to formula :cry:.
