Ok, I have been testing my blood sugar 4X daily. My after meal levels are generally good, only a couple high ones in the past week. My problem is my fasting level when I wake up in the morning! It is supposed to be under 95, over the last three days it has been 96, 123, and 115! My after breakfast level tends to be high too, but I think this could have something to do with the high fasting level.

How can I bring this down? I typically eat late at night before bed (usually not until 1 am) but have cut that down to almost exclusively protein, maybe 1 carbohydrate allowance because the last time I did an exclusively protein meal I got hypoglycemic in the middle of the night (blood sugar was 52).

I'm so frustrated! I know that when I did my GTT my fasting level was pretty high and that the first blood draw was really high but after that it went to normal for the last two. Is this a pattern?

you know i was having those issues till they put me on insulin. could be you just need a little assistance at night only. there is also a pill that can help i'd ask your doctor and make sure they know. plus it depends on the time of night you are eating and then waking and testing. also i've noticed if you take your sugar right after you get up your numbers will be higher than like 10 minutes later since your body uses that sugar to help wake itself.

hmm, I might try waiting a few minutes and seeing what it does then. I have a follow-up appointment with my nutritionist Wed. and my Dr. right after that. Shall see what they say then.

This morning it was high when I got up, then I ate a bit right after and my one hour after breakfast was fine. Of course my breakfast was carrots, dip, and a piece of cheese, not terribly high in carbs/sugars lol.

I had problems with my overnight sugar level and they put me on metformin tablets and now I dont have any probs. Might be work looking into.

Your body is more insulin resistant in the morning so it sounds like you may need some medication to reduce your fasting level. It might be worth trying not to snack before bed if you can avoid it. Good luck
