Goverment confirms scrapping NHS direct.

Labour created the NHS. Everytime they're in power the Tories do everything they can to destroy it because they believe that people who can afford to pay should be treated first. Labour have made mistakes as every party does, too many targets though some targets have been fab such ad cutting waiting lists especially for cancer treatment. There are many poor elements of the NHS that predate Labour such as the removal if dental services.

I've yet to meet a single person who works in the NHS who is glad the Tories are in and happy with what they're doing.

My mums a nurse a voted for them

i actually know quite a few nurses and midwives who voted for them (and don't regret it). maybe NHS staff already know something we don't? lol!

why do i recall about 2 or 3 years ago in the news lots of stories about 'why labour has failed the NHS'

Because you read the Times and the Mail?

Oh perlease...low. Very low.

She could easily retort that you're a Guardian reader which would equally be as low.

Note to self - Tories can't take a joke.

Who said I'm Tory?

Still waiting on why you assume the above... or do you only resort to such refererences for anyone not of the Labour variety?

hey hun a few people on this forum make statements and then realise they have nothing to back them up and try and change the subject lol

I assumed you are a Tory based on your posts. If you're not them I'm sorry I sullied your good name.

Winegums what do you mean? Am I supposed to go searching for sociological studies examining the sense of humour in a typical Conservative voter as evidence for a flippant joke?

Oh and I didn't say no-one in the NHS has voted Tory, just that I've not met anyone who has and have a lot of friends, family and acquaintance who work in it. I think in Surrey it would be difficult to find people not voting Tory irrespective on their profession.

Ugh Tories suck @rse!
Nothing surprises me with the scum bags though!

I'll be there with my banner fighting for the NHS if needs be I tell ya
x

edit: MP's (the party as a whole) I'm reffering to btw not the voters!!

i don't live in surrey? i used to live in epsom in surrey and there was a big mix there votes. i only lived there for a year

i just meant throughout this thread and other ones about the government as soon as someone actually defends the governernment the tory haters end up ignoring most of the posts as they don't have any answers so was basically telling her not to expect an answer :)

well this went off on a tangent.

Thought the thread was about the NHS direct... not how far left the BBC are

Ooookay....

*steps away slowly as people will dislike me for my political stance!*

eta - not all tories dislike the nhs yano  i dont know any that do.... and some people that have mentioned the manifests, i assume you read them, rather than the BBC/SKY edited versions? Just checking...

It says Surrey on your info. Isn't Chris Grayling the MP for Epsom? A pretty safe Con seat I think. Gove and Hunt also Surrey MPs I find.

Where in London are you now? Most of the inner-city Boroughs are Labour. Everything round the outside is blue.

Hayley - Andrew Lansley certainly hates it and he's on record pushing for private health.

where i live the highest voters were lib dem actually including most of my family  but i don't understand what my neighbours have to do with anyone? i don't go around asking who other people have voted for so i can copy them? lol

as i said i lived in epsom for a year i rented a place on a 12 month contract and our contract ran out and we moved house........... i'm really sorry i never updated my location i guess i never thought of it as its just a forum and didn't think people would take it so seriously

I meant people as in voters, not the MPs :) - 1 MP thinks that way, so labour/lib supporters assume all blue voters agree with him! What constituency does he hold? Did people there vote for him? Because i voted for MY local MP, who certainly does not agree with that POV and is helping our local hospital. So, conservatives are very liked around here for that reason amongst many.

Just as a side-note - just because someone lives in a con area, doesn't mean they ARE blue voters. A lot of "safe" labour seats were lost this year, so the "typical" areas are not what they used to be. :flower:

OK, let's clear some things up as this is getting a bit mixed up!

Winegums I mentioned your area because you said how many NHS people you know who have voted Tory, my point was that in areas with a high proportion of Tory voters inevitably people of all professions will be voting that way. I live in the North which as you will know is overwhelmingly left so naturally this might also explain why I don't know any NHS people who have voted Tory. The proportions for the Epsom vote were something like 56% Con, 20 something high Lib Dem so it's safe to say that the coalition should be representing the vast majority of people in that constituency.

Hayley - I don't assume all Tories think one way because the party is acting that way. Certainly I know many Labour party members who were grossly unhappy with things like the Iraq was and the cutting of the 10p tax, myself included. However in the context of this thread there are a number of Con voters who have said they are happy to get rid of NHS Direct (the original point! lol) so as this is one way the government is weakening the NHS it's a natural assumption that people who think it's ok are less in favour of the NHS and the way it is run than those who want to keep NHS direct. I mentioned Andrew Lansley because he is the Minister for Health and the Con MP who is leading the reforms which are basically privatisation. Whatever certain individual Tory voters might feel about the NHS the facts are there that the man in charge is not a fan of it and is trying to break it up and this is Tory party policy. Also I know that not everyone voted for the party that won in their constituency! :dohh: I live in a strong Lib Dem followed by Con area and clearly I am not of either persuasion! But again in the context of this thread most of the people who I've been debating with have either here or in other threads already expressed their allegiance to the blue. :) When I mentioned Surrey I was talking odds rather than individual personal persuasion. I looked up the MPs for the area and all I found were Conservative and I looked up the 2010 election results for Epsom in Surrey too. I haven't pulled these ideas out of a hat, it's just maths.

Anyway we have deviated so far from the original point I haven't the heart to continue and I'd forgotten how easily I get cross and for how very long when pregnant! Let's be friends. I'm done here! :D

I know, was just clarifying, (and not aiming at you) as these threads always go the same way, and the same/similar points are raised each time. I was just making sure no one else took your point in another way than it was intended really as you see people pick up on 1 comment and run with it... :flower:

Blah - I don't think NHS 24 is getting scrapped, i think it's just NHS Direct.

whats the difference? Is direct the english version of 24?

Good old SNP? I dislike alex salmond but hes really good as he can be in regards to the NHS. Oh except for Nicola Sturgeon and her biased budgetting towards glasgow and neglecting the other cities.
