And would you recommend it? Is there a specific "type" you had? Any advice, or something you wish you had known before getting it?

I've been toying with the idea for a long time, but it scares me a little. I figure this is a forum with a lot of people from different areas who probably all had varying experiences...

Thanks! :flower:

i'd be also intetrestedto know as have considered getting it done x

My DH had Lasik done in 2007ish I think. They were really dry until.recently so he needed lots of drops but we also live in the desert.

He loves it though and was so sick of wearing glasses

Do it!! :) I had LASIK surgery done about 2 years ago - best thing ever!

i'd say that my vision isn't just 100%, but it is pretty close - i get halos around lights at night, and if I'm tired my vision isn't as good, but then I was on the borderline of getting a good result (they only told me that afterwards - my vision was around -4 with significant astigmatism, so if you are worse than that be warned you will probably still need glasses). It's not that nice getting it done, but then I'm a bit claustaphobic and quite squeamish about my eyes, so others would probably not find it as unpleasant as I did. Oh, and i was left with a red ring around one of my eyes for about a month - looked like I'd been in a fight! And it took about a month for my vision to settle down properly - reading was a bit off initially, and my eyes were quite sensitive to light. Didn't really have any problems with dryness though, despite them warning me that I might well as I had dry eyes before having it done.

Don't let me put you off though, as Saying all that I'd do it again tomorrow if I had to to keep my eyesight as it is!

Oh, And it most likely will cost a lot more than the adds suggest, unless you have minimal eyesight problems to start with. I paid £2,500, but I was initially quoted £3,300, so don't accept their first price - I just said it was too much money and they kept ringing back with a better price. It seems a lot, but it really is money well spent!

I had LASIK ultra elite (i think) done just over a year ago. I would highly recommend it. Nowhere near what I was expecting it didn't hurt at all having it done! You just feel pressure a first not pain and the laser itself didn't hurt at all. On the way home my eyes were a little uncomfy it was a very sunny day and even though I had sunglasses on it was a little bright on my eyes. I had better than 20/20 vision by the next day. I too would have it done again tomorrow if I needed it doing. I love not having to wear glasses, not having to worry about going out in the rain or steaming up or little ones fingers getting your glasses!

Thank you all for the thorough responses!!

what did they tell you about your vision in the future? how long is your vision likely to stay as good as it is? I heard from a colleague that it's really only "good" for 10 - 15 years. Can you get it again after that? Is it likely to cause any issues when you're older (i.e. are there any long-term risks?)

Thanks again :flower:

What they do to the eye is permanent (the reshaping of corneal tissue) and for most people the results last forever although after surgery for a small percentage of people their eye does continue to change/regress and they may eventually need to wear glasses again or you can have the procedure done again if you wanted. I was told that my eye will most probably age just like a person who has never needed glasses before, so in old age may need glasses to read print but like I said before you can be re-lasered if you are still suitable at the time. My surgery came with a lifetime aftercare guarantee so if I should need it done again is free. I hope this helps and makes sense. I've had LO trying to help and tap at the screen so had to wait till after she was asleep.

I had it done 5years ago, I would definately recomend it! Its the best thing I ever did! :)

My friend had it done about 4 years ago, she paid over £3000 and already she is wearing glasses again at night. Its not a permanent solution for everyone and as a relatively new procedure, I would be worried about long term problems. I would love to have eye correction surgery but I am really put off in case something goes wrong. My mom lost her sight before I was born which I think makes me a lot more apprehensive of messing about with my eyes but I am really interested in this, which is non invasive.

Ive looked into a great deal as i hate wearing glasses.
Two things have decided me against it at the moment. 1) if your prescription is one that is changing that once you have had the surgery done it will continue to change. My eyes change a little every time i have a check up which is every 2 years. 2) I know someone who works in our local eye specialist hospital. She was saying that about 90% of the people that need to go to the hospital are those that have had laser eye surgery and their problem ultimately stems from that, the are are the usual general eye problems.
