HCG Testing and results?

Im 4 weeks 6 days (5 weeks tomorrow). When will I have my Hcg levels tested? Will it be on my first midwife appointment? Should I have had my levels checked by now? I went to the dr and he referred me to a hospital/midwife but havent heard anything since. He didnt even confirm pregnancy just took my word of hpt. Should more have been done at this stage? This is my first pregnancy no complications and living in the uk xx

No you are fine!! They only check your levels if something is possibly wrong. I had a day of spotting in week 4 so they ran my HcGs to make sure the pregnancy was healthy. All was good.

I think it's probably going to differ greatly region to region. Where I'm at my doctor (GP) automatically sent me for blood tests when I first went in. (with both pregnancies actually--different doctors though).

I haven't had my pregnancy confirmed or levels checked. I think they only check your levels in the UK if you have had previous problems.

It is neither necessary, nor standard UK practise to check your hcg levels unless they think the pregnancy might be ectopic or they think you may be miscarrying but can't say for sure by ultrasound.
As you may have seen on this board, a lot of hcg testing makes people worried without good reason!
Also most home tests are better than the cheapo dipstrips the NHS uses so they do take your word for it. Some may test your urine in the surgery, but it is not the norm these days. They kind of know that your average woman has done 10 home tests by the time she sees a doctor!!
You should be seeing a midwife when you are about 8-10 weeks pregnant.

hi, the only time i got my levels checked was at epu and that was because i was spotting and i only got one blood draw done for it . with my last pregnancies i never got any took . my gp said they dont do bloods to check for pregnancy as a hpt is sufficiant for them to see i was pregnant ..
