With one baby you can afford not to have a routine, with twins it will destroy you.
Why just get through the newborn stage when you can enjoy it?
Decide which day you want to start your routine, wake up feeling ready and refreshed and just do it!
I started getting them into routine from day 1 and it worked for us,i never had days where i was so exhausted and run down,i never had sleepless nights and i actually loved every second of it - and i had THREE under TWO!
When they wake up feed them, change them and let them be.
you get yourself ready and have breakfast and whatnot
then have a little play with them and off to bed
i just take them to their cots in their rooms and leave them to settle,if you start early on they'll learn quickly and it will become the 'norm' for them,so no crying and screaming.
keep the room dark and play them some music - TRUST ME! they WILL learn how to settle
ALWAYS wake them up at the same time, and ALWAYS put them for naps/bedtime at the same time, even if one is clearly not tired - after couple of days their bodies will adjust.
during their first nap you can tidy whatever has to be tidied, and then relax until they wake up and then do it all over again
try taking them out a tleast once,or just in the garden in the pushchair as long as it's not too windy and raining ANY weather is fine. all my kids napped outside for the first months, but they were spring babies.
after they have been fed and changed leave them on thei ownr for a bit,do something else and then spend some time with them and take them off to bed again.
people don't realise how much sleep babies need,my children can't be awake more then 3hrs even now at 18 months, and when they were newborns they would just eat and go back to sleep. people usually think it's too much and let their babies get overtired, leading to distruption and babies not being able to settle.
with twins you cant rock them to sleep,so just put them in their cots and leave,i know it's hard sometime but theres not a lot you can do,and its easier the sooner they get used to it.
repeat the same routine every day 3 or 4 times and if followed correctly EVERY baby will settle into it,i had 3 small children and it worked for us perfectly!
take a shower, breathe in and out, imagine you're not tired an exhausted and you'll feel better
good luck x
