hi everyone i got a prescription off the doctor for a canestan duo so i got the cream and pessary which i used but the pessary never dissolved n never worked a couple wks on iv bought another pessary from boots chemist as its so uncomfortable at the moment but i just wondered are there different doses or is 500mg canesten pessary always the one which is given? im just checking im not using a stronger dose or something as i binned the box xxx

Im not too sure hun i always take the pill in your mouth rather than the pessary as i took that once and a few hours later felt it scrappin out of me as i went for a wee, most uncomfortable experience ever lol. I find the pill works alot better too!

When I had thrush they told me not to take the oral treatment as pregnant.. So I think you should just call your GP and ask xx

I've just had to use the pessary too, and I'm not 100% sure but I don't think there are different strengths. My doc said I def cannot use the oral tablet, and the pessary never works brilliantly for me. I've found that I have to use the cream quite a lot as well, and keep it up or the itching comes back. When it is really bad I also recommend soaking a flannel in cold water and holding that against your bits. It helps the swelling and also soothes the itch as well.
I hope you find something that works. It's a horrible horrible thing at the best of times.
*is sitting here trying not to itch*

thanks ladies i used the pessary in the end (and am still using the cream 3 times a day) and its stopped the symptoms so far, i dont get itching i get burning its so painful :( but as of last night it hasnt been bk touch wood this is working, i defo wouldnt take the oral tablet as iv always been told by doctor that is defo not to be taken as it gets into the bloodstream and passes to baby, i know u can use pessary as last time with my son i had to use one a few times and this time iv already had it as i get reoccuring thrush when pregnant, it was just the dosage i was worryin about as iv never had to go out n buy it before but i couldnt wait to see doc this wasnt bearable lol xxx

You need to make sure the pessary goes as high as possible in you vagina. Lie down to put it in if you can as itl lengthen you vagina. Also if you put it in at night it shouldn't all come out too quickly. When I use them I get a chalky sort of discharge but don't normally get anything coming out for about 24 hours. I don't think they come in different strengths.

Canesten do this cream that you can insert too, it comes in like a little syringe, you put it in at night and then by the morning it kinda all comes out lol but my thrush went. That is what my doctor prescribed for me, they sell it in boots to, so its not a hard tablet that needs to dissolve its soft cream, can be a bit messy when coming out though! Oh and its a one dose treatment.

ohh really i didnt know that i wish they had told me at boots yesterday lool thanks if this doesnt work im guna go get that instead! xxx

I didn't know about it either! But I have seen it on the shelves at boots! When my doctor was describing it I had no idea what she was on about!
