hi there, nutriprem 2

Sherrie on the Premmie forum (baby Millie) has been given Infatrini, and I know that Millie's weight gains are far greater than Andrew's on his fortified EBM.

Babies never seem to perform at something when in front of consultants. Andrew refused to meet our consultant's eyes one time, and as a result he's got a referral to the hospital opthamologist. Nothing at all to do with the fact that he found the wall socket & plugs far more interesting to look at ;)

Andrew's still not on the NutriPrem, that's two unopened tubs on top of the cupboard! I dug my heels in with the consultant last month, extolling the benefits of breast milk [no offence meant to anyone here], so she's let me continue expressing & feeding so long as we add EBM Fortifier powder to the milk. We're back with her at the end of next week, and I know that Andrew still won't have put on huge amounts of weight (he averages 100g/wk). I don't really want a referral to a dietician as he sees enough people at that hospital already ;) Think I'll start adding cheese sauce to his pureed food, get him more calories that way.

Oh wow, fantastic news about Poppy being so smart developmental wise! Chloe cant grasp at objects yet and hasnt got to the babbling stage but does smile often!

The special care nurse rang today and has moved Chloe's appointment forward to next week with the consultant, I think early weaning is on the cards, but I might raise up the tests that you're having done. No one said why Chloe was so small and no tests have ever been done on her like that so I might mention it just to make sure nothing being overlooked!

Great news on the lb in 17days, Chloe only did 7oz in about the same amount of time, maybe new formula for her might help too? There's so much to think about!!

Keep us all updated!! xx

Hi Ladies,

Thanks Marleysgirl, good to know they are not experimenting new formula on Poppy ;) sometimes I find the plugs and sockets more interesting too so don't blame Andrew.

Mummy-Mi - how much does Chloe weigh now? Once we have all the tests next week I will find out what they all are and let you know, I know one is definately for dwarfism but the rest I have no idea.

The neo natal nurse came out to see Poppy today as she was seeing another baby nearby, she is so lovely :) poor Poppy had a bag taped to her lady bits for half an hour to collect a wee sample to check for a urine infection which could cause slow weight gain, I have to get a poo sample in the next few days which thankfully only involves scraping poo off her nappy onto a spatula. Whilst she was here I asked her about weaning Poppy and she said that she didn't like to go against the Consultant but recommended I stopped for a few weeks (I have just given her baby rice for the last 2 mornings) and let Poppy get used to her new formula first so that if she has any reactions etc,. they know for definate that its the new formula causing it. Poppy was also sick whilst she was here, which never happens and she thinks it may be her little tummy getting used to the new food so definately a good idea to stop the weaning for now and she will talk to the consultant tomorrow to let him know. She is coming back to see us on the 22nd to weigh her and to help me more with the weaning :) I will let you know how we get on on and the results of her tests. TBH think they will come back negative as Poppy is very alert and active so think she is just burning up more calories than she is taking.

Take Care x

Sorry haven't been on here in a while. Willow77 STILL haven't got new milk, got the letter but no-where in it did it mention the new milk so doctors didn't know about it, rang hospital and they said they would talk to doctor then fax letter to GP, I rang GP today and they hadn't heard anything so GP said she would ring hospital to find out. Esp as he is moving around so much and having on average 19-22oz milk a day and 2 lots of food he is still not putting much weight on, Like Andrew he has his own line under all the lines lol. Last week at 25weeks he weighed 12lb 1oz put 3oz on in a week. Getting him weighed again tomorrow!! Poppy and Mckenzie are prob the same just small no abnormalities just use the calories which they take in, well that's what consultant said he wasn't concerned at all. Mckenzie hated baby rice. Now he is 6months I can give almost everything now but tried yogurt yesterday morning he had 1 mouthful and was sick everywhere so hv said wait a while to try it again!!!

Not that I'd want to contradict your HV, but I wouldn't wait too long - perhaps 48 hours - unless you are really really sure that it was the yoghurt that made him sick. Andrew is occasionally sick after one or two mouthfuls of weaning food but it's stuff he's had before, and it's generally when I haven't paid attention to winding him properly before feeding (wisdom of hindsight). Once we've cleaned up, he's happy to eat the rest of the food!

Hi Ladies,

Sleeping Bubs - I hope they sort out your formula soon, its been ages! I am very lucky as my consultant faxed it to my doctor within half an hour of calling us then the doctor phoned couple of hours later to tell us that she had sent it to the chemist and we could collect it tomorrow :) all collected now and Poppy had her first bottle tonight which went down well. It's good that you can give McKenzie anything now, let me know how you get on with new things :) I can't wait to try Poppy with different foods. Do you have to give him more higher calorie things like advocado and sweet potato with butter?

Poppy has her own little wobbly line below the 0.4th centile bless her. She seems to get so distracted when she is feeding are yours the same? we have to turn the telly off fair bit as she would rather watch that than have her milk and if the cats are playing then you can forget the milk cos there is no way she wants to waste time feeding when she can be entertained by the girls and when we are out then she just wants to be nosey and watch everything & everyone so takes the minimum milk possible. When I was feeding her babyrice though she was so excited about it that nothing could distract her, so think maybe weaning in few weeks time is going to be the way forward for her :)

What highchair has everyone got if you don't mind me asking? need to get one for Poppy soon and looking for recommendations on good ones for dinky babies :)

Well best go as someone will be getting hungry soon.
:)

I think I will ask about the liquid cartons of nurtriprem when I go next to the doctors got to pick up another 2 cartons of powder cos mine didn't get ordered they had to give me two of someone elses.

The milk is not nice lol and the froth is a nightmare I can never see how much is left esp when I was using the tommy tippee bottles with the clear writing (who ever thought of that idea!!!!)

I get Mckenzie weighed everyweek it varies how much weight he puts on a few weeks ago he lost weight then didn't put anything on then a few onzes a week. But he did put 9oz on in 2 weeks this time considering he was ill and on antibiotics for a week bless him

I have those stupid bottles with the clear writing! i honestly have to feel the bottle to even find the numbers!!! :growlmad:

xx

Hi everyone what a great thread, I was just wondering what any of you put your LO's onto after NP2? Rosalie was only supposed to get one prescription of 60 cartons but iv ended up with another 60 iv figured this wont do her any harm shes gaining weight really well HV is pleased with her weight gain but i dont think ill be able to get another prescription for Nutri prem2 so have to start thinking of what to put her on next...any ideas? Theres alot out there but i wanted to see if i could get peoples experiences rather than just reading the tub in asda cause obviously they will write the best to sell there product xx

Well spoke to doctors yesterday about milk and she said that she would ring hospital but got a letter in post about his new milk from the hospital this afternoon, so going to take it to the GPS today as he has a cough and hv wanted me to get it checked out. Yet again he didn't put much weight on 2oz so now 12lb 3oz!!! So hv said try 3meals a day with high fat content like cheese, milk products and meat as he is moving so much. He sat for the 1st time yesterday by him self. hv all say he is really advanced developmentally but its just trying to get his weight up. So hopefully once I get this high calorie milk it will help. Just got to mix the 2 milks together at first.
Alibaba24 I now use NUK bottles which have red writing on so much easier lol Well my lo is now going on SMA High Energy a prescription milk again

Just one more point I am so glade that I have stair gates up now lo was on the mat in middle of room turned around and he was at the door moves like a caterpillar lol

Hi ladies,

Sleeping bubs, how is the cough? glad they finally sorted out the milk :) fingers crossed he likes it. Do you have to mix the formula? I thought I would have to do this but thankfully scbu nurse said to let Poppy have 1 bottle first day, 2 the second etc until she was totally on the new formula :) she seems to be liking it and has drained both bottles she has had, think it must really fill her up though as she doesn't really have much of the Nutriprem on the next feed. Mckenzie is developing really well you must be so pleased :D, good job about the stairgate. How is the new food going down?

Hi Alibaba24, how is Rosalie getting on? aww she was 4oz less than Poppy when she was born. How much does she weigh now? Can't advise on different formula I'm afraid as Poppy has only ever really had prescription formula and my EBM (which appears that I make the skimmed variety :( so solely formula now). I think Nutriprem2 is 75 cals per 100ml so maybe look at other ones and see which one is the highest, or your Doctor may be able to advise on good ones for growth catch up :)

Thanks i guess ill be looking for something that closely matches what she has if possible she was 5 and a half pound last thursday and shes will be getting weighed again on thursday coming :) I keep seeing posts about colicy babies and wondering if i should go straight to a formula for that or just wait and see how she goes on normal id hate for her to get colic from changing aaahhh decisions decisions!

xx

Hey Willow77 well get new milk tomorrow meant to be mixing it but Nutriprem 2 is powder and SMA High energy is liquid so any ideas on how to mix them together?? Looks like SMA high energy and Infatrini have the same energy levels in it. I might ask chemist tomorrow about mixing them!! Food is ok but at tea time he is hungry and cries cos he wants feeding and the food isn't coming quick enough try milk but he also cries so that meal time is a bit of a nightmare but hopefully he if has proper naps which is hard for him to do it will make sure that he is not tired at tea time.

Chloe was 7lb 12oz last weigh in on the 9th, and she is 18 weeks old. She's still taking about 100-150mls less a day, she just doesnt seem that interested and she is alot more awake during the day so she must be burning off more cals.

Also we think she's just started teething, since friday night she's been waking in the middle of the night screaming (she normally goes from 11pm-5am), comforting her doesnt help and shes not hungry or needs a change. We've given her calpol and she settles down after a bit, its horrible, she's grumbly during the day as well, sometimes flushed cheeks and shes always trying to chew on her hands! Bless.

Will update on weds after the appointment, big weight gaining thoughts to everyone! xx

well got new milk today lo has had 3 mizxed bottles of it, think no cheese for a while been sick after meals today!!! And I mean sick goes everywhere Doctor said its prob the cheese as hasn't been sick after milk but only taking max 3oz per bottle so had hardly anything today bless him hopefully tomorrow will be better

Hi Ladies,

Sleeping Bubs - how did you get on mixing the formula? how is Mckenzie, has he stopped being sick? is he taking more now too? Is the SMA in 200ml ready made cartons?

Mummy_Mi - how did the appointment go? did Chloe put on much weight? Aww bless her teething, I'm not sure if Poppy is teething or she has an addiction to bonjela cos as soon as she sees the tube she gets excited lol.

Alibabba24 - There are just too many choices when it comes to babymilk, I don't know how people decide which ones to try, have you chosen one yet? I think I would be tempted to try some ready made cartons first see if she likes a couple of those before I buy a tin of it?

Poppy had her blood tests yesterday, it was horrible she cried and I cried :( and OH ended up with blood on him cos apparently they got a good vein! We won't get the results for some time so just going to try pushing it to the back of my mind as she a happy little girl and apart from the slow weight gain she is doing great :) It was nice seeing one of the scbu nurses there who hadn't seen Poppy since she came home, I was suprised she remembered Poppy tbh as been a while and they must have had quite a few babies since then. The new formula 'Infatrini' has gone down VERY well and she is draining most of the 150ml bottles now within 15 mins, I am thinking that her feeding problem may have been the Nutriprem all along and that she just doesn't like it, feel a rubbish mummy that all this time I didn't realise it was the milk :( have SCBU nurse here on monday to weigh her & to help me with her diet plan, she is really interested in food now when we eat and I can't wait to start trying her with different things. Bought her highchair this week (I love ebay), she looks like a little doll in it and can't see over the tray bless her it looks really comfty though and she will grow into it (eventually) :)

Take care x

Hi Willow well was going to say he hasn't been sick since Tuesday night, but he just said he choaked on a toy, thus was a little sick sat him on me and it was like a fountain yet another pile of clothes his and mine and the playmat for the wash pile along with the clothes from earlier when he had a nappy explosion yeat again today!!!! hv said may be it is a bug!! But he is still only taking around 3-4oz of the mixed milk every 3hrs (4oz Nutriprem and 2oz SMA) but hopefully will increase again however he did take a 6oz bottle yesterday he manged to keep down 14oz of milk yesterday and a few spoon fulls of food!!! So far today he hard 3oz milk 06:30, 09:30 3oz, 12:30 tiny bit of rusk, 2oz milk and some water, 16:00 4oz milk (BUT was sick everywhere) The SMA comes in 250ml cartons so have loads lol plus got 4 unopened tins of Nutriprem. Getting him weighed tomorrow I doubt he has put any weight on.
Bless Poppy I'm sure the test results will be ok try not to worry but I know its hard not to!!

Hello all,

well we had the consultant, dietician, speech and language therapist and a student all in the room together, it was a tad crowed!! They weighed Chloe and she had put on 2oz in just over a week and I mentioned how, whether its due to the new tests or she's just losing interest, her feeds have not only decreased in the amount she's taking, from 80ml to 60ml, but also how many feeds she has a day, used to be 8-10 a day and now its 6-7. So all in all she's now not taking enough a day to sustain a healthy weight gain so they have put her on SMA high energy and the speech and language lady is coming out today to check Chloe's feeding again and possibly try a different teat and we're to go back in about 3 weeks and if the weight has come up then we'll also try a new medication for her reflux.

They gave us a box of the hospital SMA in bottles to get us started with until we can pick som up from the doctors/pharmacy and I have to say it's so odd not having to boil a kettle etc, just, open one of the 100ml bottles, add gaviscon, shake a little then screw on teat and away we go!! Chloe doesnt mind it at room temp so its making the night feed a breeze!

I'm not sure how big the cartons are we'll be getting, I'm guessing 200ml ish. Still at least she likes it, shes drinking a bit more, whether thats the novelty of it being new or liking it better I'm not sure! The special care nurse is coming out next week, it be would be fab if she broke 8lb!!

Forgot to add, she's nearly 5 months and is 7lb 14oz. The dietician did say that as she's close to the weaning age already then when they see us again they might talk about it more. So we're going to have to go on the look out for a high chair too!!

Hope everyone is well xx

I may have to duck out of this NP2 thread

We saw the Paediatrician today and she's still not happy with Andrew's growth (100g/wk) plus his head measurement has dipped slightly from the curve. So she wants us to give up on the EBM with Fortifier, and she's writing a prescription for the super-high-calorie formula "Infatrini".

I've still got two unopened tubs of NP2 sat on the top of my kitchen cupboard!

Hi Ladies,

Mummy_Mi - wow what a crowded room, did Chloe mind all the different people? has the specialist been to check the teats? what was the outcome? Hope Chloe gets on well with the SMA :) and starts piling on the pounds. I don't know about you but I find it really upsetting when Poppy doesn't take her milk as I know she won't put on the weight. It is strange not boiling the kettle etc isn't it, it is so much easier to clean the bottles too as no powdery bits to try and get out of the teats. Goodluck with the high chair, hope you manage to get one she can see over the top!

Marleysgirl - I'm not sure how many Nutriprem babies there are now think quite a few of us have been changed to different formula's, Poppy is an 'infatrini' girl now, maybe we should change the thread name lol. Hope Andrew starts putting on the weight with the infatrini. I too have a few cartons of Nutriprem2 & 45 cartons, the chemist has said as they are all sealed they will happily take them back.

Well I think the novelty of the new formula has worn off as Poppy has gone back to her usual of not taking the whole bottle (150ml) and only been taking 70-100ml :( she has dropped one feed (nightfeed) so now on 5 a day and would probably drop another if I didn't wake her sometimes before midnight. At the moment I am getting really upset that she isn't taking much and feel like crying some days as I feel it is my fault somehow :( tomorrow I am going to try different teats AGAIN and see if she will take some more without getting awful wind. My HV keeps phoning to check on Poppy and OH has been speaking to her as she just drives me mad, am hoping that she doesn't want to keep visiting as I can't cope with her. The SCBU nurse is visiting Monday to weigh Poppy and help with the diet plan so will talk to her then about seeing if it is possible to see her rather than the HV. Also have an appointment on 15th April for the dietician :)

Take care and fingers xx for some good weight gains

Willow, are Poppy and Andrew almost level pegging on size?

Just taking it from your signature - 22wk (works out to 18wk corrected) 9lb 12oz

Andrew is 30wk, but 19wk corrected, and he is now 9lb 12oz too :D

He sleeps 12 hours a day now, so we're on 4 feeds of 150ml a time. He's just started draining the 150ml to a dry bottle, so I shall increase him again.
